The factors which affect the information system needs for decision making in the hotel industry (A comparison study between the U. K. and Egypt)

This report contains evidence to show that the information provided by computers in the hotel industry, for the management work & decision making, has not changed too much since 1970. In most industries, the successful computer applications are clearly noticed in the routine work (clerical jobs) more than the management work (strategic & tactical jobs). As for the hotel industry the use of computers still comes at the back of the list. The hospitality characteristic of hotel work is the main reason why people and not machines are used Small hotels are different from large luxury hotels in using computers, mainly for economic reasons. Top managers are different from lower managers in using computers, simply for technical reasons (lack of management computer programmes). The British hotels are different from Egyptian hotels in applying computers and information technology successfully for reasons related to the influence of the managerial environment in each country. A comparison between hotels of the two countries shows the unsatisfaction of the hotel managers about the information they receive from their computer departments. The analysis of the management work, the identification of the decision making needs are still hard tasks for system analysts. The identification of both the managers' decisions & information needs is still not recognized, even by the managers themselves. The decision making approach is used in this study to identify both the managers' decisions & information needs and to evaluate the information systems available in the hotels of the two countries. The managerial environment of the country greatly influences the managers' decisions and system needs. This report outlines the background literature & approaches used to research this area. Use is made of the results of previous study done about Egyptian hotel industry and the factors which affect the success of the information systems there. Investigational work for the influence of the managerial environment in Egypt, over the structure of the marketing decision making process in the hotel industry is carried out. Areas for further ‘field’ research studies are highlighted.

Relationships between employees and their nomadic, non-territorial work environment

Recent and current socio-cultural trends are significant factors impacting on how business is conduced and correspondingly, on how work environments are designed. New communication technology is helping to break physical boundaries and change the way and speed of conducting business. One of the main characteristics of these new workplaces is non-permanency wherein the individual employee has no dedicated personally assigned office, work station, or desk. In this non-territorial, nomadic situation, employees undertake their work tasks in a wide variety of work settings inside and outside the office building. Such environments are understood to be must suitable where there is the need for high interaction with others as well as a high level of concentrated, independent work. This thesis reports on a project designed to develop a deeper understanding of the relationships between people (P) and their built environment (E) in the context of everyday work practice in a nomadic and non-territorial work environment. To achieve this, the study focuses on the experiences of employees as they understand them in relation to their work and the designed/ physical work environment. In this sense, the study is qualitative and grounded in nature. It does not assume any previously established theory nor test any presenting hypothesis. Instead it interviews the participants about their situations at work in their workplace, interprets natural interaction and creates a foundation for the development of theory informing workplace design, particularly theory that recognises the human nature of work and the need, as highlighted by several seminal researchers, for a greater understanding of how people manage and adapt in dynamic work environments.

The presente study deals a literature review, carried out by means bibliographic research in the relevant literatures subject, published in databases indexed reliable systems: Cumalative Index Medicus (MEDLINE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Latin American and Caribbean in the Health Sciences (LILACS) and Integrated Building Environmental Communications System (IBECS). Once reading the collected material, we proceeded to critical analysis and interpretation of the data, exposing the results through the preparation of topics, each of which composes of an item literature review, namely: Solids Residues: historical review and tendencies; Collectors of Recyclable materials: the origin to current days and Recyclable Materials Collectors: questions about health and working environment. Exposing questions about these items solid residues, the involvement of the collector of recyclable material in this context as well as the situations of social exclusion and precariousness of labor which they face. Being subject to many occupational hazards in their workplace, the landfill without any rights labor or social security while informal worker. It is concluded that public policies for solid residues, the collectors should always include in their context. Since is urgent to taking measures to improving the quality of life of this group of workers who live of the job with residues, exposing themselves to innumerable illnesses and risks arising from this occupation. / A pesquisa teve como objetivo principal proceder a uma revisão integrativa da literatura acerca de Catadores de Materiais Recicláveis, englobando a problemática dos resíduos sólidos, bem como as questões sobre saúde e ambiente de trabalho dos catadores. O presente estudo trata-se de uma revisão de literatura, realizado por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica em literaturas pertinente ao tema, publicadas em bases de dados confiáveis dos sistemas indexados: Cumalative Index Medicus (MEDLINE), Scientific Eletronic Library Online (SciELO), Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde (LILACS) e Integrated Building Environmental Communications System (IBECS). Após leitura do material levantado, procedeu-se à interpretação e análise crítica dos dados, expondo-se os resultados através da confecção de tópicos, sendo que cada um compõe um item da revisão de literatura, a saber: Resíduos Sólidos: revisão histórica e tendências; Catadores de Materiais Recicláveis: da origem aos dias atuais e Catadores de Materiais Recicláveis: questões acerca de saúde e ambiente de trabalho. Expondo nesses itens questões sobre resíduos sólidos, a participação do catador de material reciclável nesse contexto, assim como as situações de exclusão social e precarização do trabalho às quais os mesmos enfrentam. Estando sujeitos a diversos riscos ocupacionais em seu ambiente de trabalho, o lixão, sem quaisquer direitos trabalhista ou previdenciário enquanto trabalhador informal. Conclui-se que políticas públicas para resíduos sólidos, devem sempre incluir os catadores em seu contexto. Pois se faz urgente a tomada de medidas para melhoria da qualidade de vida desse grupo de trabalhadores que vive do trabalho com resíduos, expondo-se a inúmeros riscos e doenças advindas dessa ocupação.

As conseqüências do assédio moral no ambiente de trabalho

A pesquisa objetiva contribuir para ampliar a visibilidade jurídica e social do fenômeno denominado assédio moral no trabalho. O assédio moral é um mal que existe desde os primórdios das relações humanas. Tornou-se nos últimos anos forte preocupação social em razão de ser uma violência que causa impactos extremamente negativos à saúde e ao bemestar da vítima, devido aos desgastes que provoca. No entanto, sobretudo nas relações de trabalho, é considerado um fenômeno novo, sob o ponto de vista de sua visibilidade. A discussão acerca do tema no universo do trabalho está em pleno desenvolvimento, como demonstram as publicações de médicos, psicólogos, administradores, sindicatos, profissionais juslaboralistas, em nível mundial. Isso demonstra a preocupação de profissionais de diversas áreas do conhecimento, para com a efetiva tutela dos interesses das pessoas envolvidas nessa relação. Entretanto, a visibilidade jurídica e social do fenômeno ainda não tomou as proporções necessárias a sua efetiva prevenção e punição. A todo instante, incalculáveis vítimas são excluídas do trabalho, seja por serem forçadas a pedir demissão ou afastarem-se para licença médica, seja por serem induzidas a cometer erros que justifiquem uma justa causa. Por essa razão, o objetivo deste trabalho é de contribuir para ampliar a visibilidade jurídica e social do fenômeno denominado assédio moral no trabalho. Nesse sentido, a pesquisase propõe a elucidar o assédio moral no trabalho, por meio do estudo do fenômeno em suas origens, perfil dos envolvidos, métodos, e suas especificidades no mundo do trabalho, como os elementos caracterizadores, com destaque para a violação da dignidade da pessoa humana e a finalidade de exclusão da vítima do ambiente de trabalho o que evidencia discriminação arbitrária e perversa. Também estudar sob que formas o fenômeno recebe a tutela do sistema jurídico brasileiro, em especial à luz dos preceitos constitucionais fundamentais que tutelam a pessoa humana, bem como conhecer a magnitude das conseqüências que pode gerar na saúde da vítima, para os agressores, para o ambiente de trabalho, para o contrato de trabalho, para a organização da empresa, a fim de traçar políticas de prevenção e solução para o problema. It has become in recent years a strong social concern because it is a violence that causes extremely negative impacts on the health and welfare of the victim because of the damage it causes. However, especially in the work relations, it is considered a new phenomenon from the point of view of its visibility. The discussion about the subject on the work environment is in full development, as it can be evidenced by publications of doctors, psychologists, administrators, unions, labor lawyers, worldwide. This demonstrates the concern of professionals of several areas, for the effective protection of interests of the people involved in that relationship. However, the legal and social visibility of the phenomenon has not yet taken the proportions necessary for its effective prevention and punishment. The whole time, countless victims are excluded from work, either because they are forced to resign or leave is medical license, either because they are induced to commit mistakes that justify a just cause demission. For this reason, the objective of this work is to contribute to amplify the legal and social visibility called work moral harassment. Thus, the work is proposed to clarify the moral harassment at work, through the study of the phenomenon in its origins, profile of those involved, methods, and their specificities in the work environment, as characterizing elements, focusing the violation of dignity of the human been and on the purpose of exclusion of the victims of the workplace which shows arbitrary and perverse discrimination. And to study in which ways the phenomenon receives the shelter of the Brazilian legal system, especially in light of the fundamental constitutional precepts that protect the people, and to understand the magnitude of the consequences that can generate to the victims health, to the aggressors, the environment of work, for the employer, for the organization of the company in order to devise policies for the prevention and solution to the problem. The research involves an interdisciplinary study, with analytical instruments from Medicine, Psychology, Administration and Law, through the technique of literature review, analysis of texts, journals, literature and the Brazilian legal position, as well as study of legal state, description of facts, stated or propositions, including the reconstruction of arguments of the analyzed authors, properly cited, critical position and exposure of arguments, ideas and solution to the problems raised. Remain that the information is the best weapon to prevent and combat this social problem.

PEDAGOGIKA MARIE MONTESSORIOVÉ A JEJÍ VYUŽITÍ V NÁBOŽENSKÉ VÝUCE / Maria Montessori Pedagogy and its Application in Religious Education

Presen work deals with Maria Montessori pedagogy and its application in religious education. The goal of the study is to introduce the basic principles of Montessori-pedagogy and point out the use of those principles within the frame of religious education. The theoretical part is concerned with biography of Maria Montessori, her work, antropological background and the basic principles of Montessori pedagogy. Further, it discusses the issues of her work that are either implicitelly or explicitelly related to religious education. Beside this, the practical part of the thesis introduces the work of Italian catechist Sofia Cavaletti, who was inspired by Montessori pedagogy. In 60´s of the last century, Sofia Cavaletti managed a catechetical centre in Rome. She established atriums in several parishes in Rome, in which the methods of Montessori pedagogy were utilized. Subsequently, Godly Play method is mentioned in present work. The method was developed by Jeron W. Berryman, an american theologist and priest of episkopal church, who was inspired by the work of Maria Montessori as well as by the work of Sofia Cavaletti.

Explaining the Occupational Class Gradient in Health Among Swedish Employees: Physical and Psychosocial Work-Related Stressors

The work environment constitutes a key social determinant of health, yet previous research is relatively limited vis-à-vis the contribution of both physical and psychosocial work-related stressors on occupational class differences in health among Swedish employees. This study used cross-sectional data from the Swedish Level of Living Survey 2010 to assess the mediating effect of physical and psychosocial work-related stressors to occupational class differences in physical and mental ill health in Sweden. Disparities between gender were also considered. A sub-sample of 2,624 full- and part-time employed individuals aged 18-65 was analysed using logistic regression. Employees who belonged to higher occupational classes had a lower risk of physical ill health compared to employees from lower occupational classes when age, gender and part-time work is accounted for – but there was no evidence of an occupational class gradient in mental ill health. Similar results were observed among men and women. In line with previous research, differential exposure to physical work-related stressors explained most of the occupational class gradient in physical ill health, yet certain psychosocial work-related stressors were also influential. Future research should further examine what other work-related factors – or social determinants of health – can help explain the association between occupational class and mental health.
