[en] RESCUING A FORGOTTEN HISTORY: THE CASE OF THE CHARCOAL WORKERS OF THE PEDRA BRANCA MASSIF, RJ / [pt] RESGATANDO UMA HISTÓRIA ESQUECIDA: O CASO DOS CARVOEIROS DO MACIÇO DA PEDRA BRANCA, RJBRENO DRUMMOND VALLE 11 December 2023 (has links)
[en] The dissertation aimed to critically examine and disseminate the
socio-environmental conditions of charcoal production that occurred in the Pedra
Branca Massif from the 18th to the mid-20th century. The dependence on forest
biomass, represented by wood and charcoal, profoundly altered the relationships
between society and nature. In addition to changing the structure and composition
of the Atlantic Forest, charcoal production was both influenced by and influenced
the segregating framework of society. Thus, the research aimed to make visible a
labor that had been rendered invisible due to historical biases that affected aspects
related to its sustainability. The study involved compiling bibliographic materials,
fieldwork to locate charcoal kilns in the forest, and meetings with representatives
of the Sertão Carioca project, which funded three scientific dissemination
products. Bibliographic references revealed that charcoal producers underwent a
process of marginalization and erasure, despite their substantial contribution to
forest regeneration. The research formed the basis for a book chapter, a brochure,
and two interpretative signs – one of which is displayed at the main entrance of
the Pedra Branca State Park. It is expected that these products will contribute to
raising awareness of the importance of this social group and collaborate in
providing greater visibility to the Quilombola communities of their descendants.
Reviving and valuing this aspect of the socio-cultural history of the Pedra Branca
Massif can contribute to the struggle to secure land rights and the preservation of
the way of life of these populations, rights that have been historically achieved but
are often threatened.

Previous issue date: 2015-08-28 / In capitalist modern society, the paradigm of separation between Humans and nature legitimized relations of domination and exploitation of natural goods, as well as human beings, understood as constituents of nature. Thus, a reflection and reorientation is needed about these practices in a context marked by the crisis, involving coordination with the production of meanings about environmental education. Among the current strategies to address environmental issues, the creation of conservation units (CU) has acted as an important tool for the protection of natural goods and ecosystem functions, but also represents important areas for the maintenance of socio-cultural diversity. From that look, this study approach the environmental interpretation, understood as an instrument within the environmental education practices developed within the conservation units, seeking interlocution with the critical perspective. Thus, environmental interpretation can be worked broadly, considering whole the process of communication and rapprochement between the protected area and society. Considering the complexity of themes approached in the educational practices, evaluation the impact of its activities has been set up as a challenge, is the inadequacy of traditional evaluation tools or absence of specific instruments. Considering the context presented, this research seeks to support the development and monitoring of environmental interpretation projects in conservation units from the perspective of the critical environmental education. For this, was conducted an analysis of bibliographic references about the environmental interpretation themes in protected areas, and analysis of secondary data research seeking to understand the impact of environmental interpretation projects. Furthermore, considering the importance of purposeful analysis to management were established interlocutions with CU managers to raise collectively, the views and recommendations for the elaboration and monitoring of environmental interpretation projects in conservation units. One of the products of this research consists of a table with the analysis of secondary data, organized in relation to the objectives of the research, audience involved, location, evaluation tools and conclusions. In addition to this analytical table, was elaborated a document with suggestions and guidelines for planning and monitoring of environmental interpretation projects in conservation units. This result seeks to demonstrate the environmental interpretation as a relevant instrument in the context of environmental education practices in conservation unit, strengthening its educational component, favoring the questioning about the function of these areas and the role of society in intervention in certain reality.

ECOTURISMO E INTERPRETAÇÃO AMBIENTAL COMO ESTRATÉGIA DE DIVULGAÇÃO DO PATRIMÔNIO NATURAL E CULTURAL DE ROQUE GONZALES-RS / ECOTOURISM AND ENVIRONMENTAL INTERPRETATION AS A DISSEMINATION STRATEGY OF THE NATURAL AND CULTURAL HERITAGE OF ROQUE GONZALES-RSAnschau, Magali Rambo 24 March 2016 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Touristic activities capable of highlighting the experiences and knowledge of natural and/or cultural
characteristics should be included in tourism planning, enabling the development of important values
for society. The landscape has elements of both natural and cultural expression, known as natural
heritage and cultural heritage, which are seen as elements to be preserved for future generations. The
natural heritage concerns the basis of memory by recording the past, which is essential for the
establishment of cultural heritage.Comprehending what becomes significant in the landscape is
understood as environmental interpretation and aims at the reading of natural and cultural heritage.
Environmental interpretation is regarded as an interpretive treatment, which presses for the visitor's
involvement with what is being interpreted. In this context, this study focused on the use of the touristic
potential of the natural and cultural heritage of Roque Gonzales, whilst using interpretative instruments
as a dissemination strategy of natural and cultural heritage. The municipality of Roque Gonzales is
located in the northwest portion of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, in the missionary region. The
proposed goal aimed to survey the natural and cultural heritage of Roque Gonzales. Based on this
information, an interpretive plan for the sites of patrimonial relevance was conducted, thus collecting
data on the existing infrastructure in the city and presenting a management statement for the sites of
patrimonial relevance. In this way, we surveyed nine sites of heritage interest among the natural and
cultural heritage sites: the Casa de Memoria (in restoration), Prainha (under construction), the Salto
Pirapó, the Cordilheiras da Esquina Emanuel, Cerro Inhacurutum, the Cerro Inhacurutum lookout,
Assunção do Ijuí, the Cruz de João de Castilho and the Cotovelo do rio Ijuí. In the Casa de Memória
and Prainha, intervention is being carried out by Eletrosul and the municipality of Roque Gonzales, of
which an analysis is being made of what is being proposed by the respective agencies. In the other
heritage sites of interest, interpretive tools were proposed for the natural and cultural heritage
according to the survey carried out. In addition to the survey of the necessary infrastructure for tourism
development, a proposal for a tour guide for the municipality of Roque Gonzales was presented. In this
sense , understand the dynamics and the meanings of the natural and cultural heritage of Roque
Gonzales through environmental interpretation is critical to the dissemination and subsequent
exploitation of this heritage process. In addition , this study extends the discussion of the relationship
between society and nature through the promotion of natural and cultural heritage through
interpretative instruments and ecotourism practices.
estabelecimento do patrimônio cultural.
Neste contexto, a abordagem desse
estudo se deteve no aproveitamento do potencial turístico do patrimônio natural e cultural de Roque
Gonzales, utilizando instrumentos interpretativos como estratégia de divulgação do patrimônio natural
e cultural.
Além do

Previous issue date: 2005-10-06 / FAPEAM - Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado do Amazonas / The Miocene is one of the periods of Earth characterized by pronounced climatic and bioevolutive changes associates to the expressive marine transgressions. In the South America, these events were concomitant with the progressive uplift of
Andes cordillera causing significant paleogeographical and paleoenvironmental modifications. In the center-western region of the Amazônia, the palynologic and stratigraphic studies of Miocene Solimões Formation identified two facies
associations, unconformably overlain by Pleistocene siliciclastic deposits of Içá Formation: 1) The Association 1- laminated pelite, characterized by grey pelites with
concentration of organic matter, related to an lacustrine environment; and 2) Association 2 sandstone and pelite with heterolithic inclined stratification representative of a meandering fluvial system. The continental inflow is indicated by abundance of phytoclast and fresh water algae (Ovoidites). The Neomiocene age for the Solimoes Formation on the Coari region is indicated by occurrence of
Echitricolporites spinosus (Superzone X sensu Muller et al., 1997) and confirmed by the presence of Echiperiporites akanthos, it doesn´t reach the Pliocene epoch.
Reworked palynomorphs as Crassoretitriletes vanraadshoovenii and Grimsdalea magnaclavata, forms commonly found in the Mesomiocene, confirm the Neomiocene age and the erosive event during Mesomiocene. Additionally, the concomitant erosion of Paleozoic rocks of western border of Amazonas basin is indicated by abundant Neodevonian acritarchs.

Communicating science : developing an exhibit with scientists and educatorsLemagie, Emily 28 October 2011 (has links)
Outreach is a small, but significant component to modern research.
Developing an exhibit for public display can be an effective way to communicate science to broad audiences, although it may be a less familiar method to scientists than writing papers or giving presentations. I outline the process of developing an interactive exhibit for outreach, and evaluate and discuss the effectiveness of a computer exhibit designed to communicate estuary currents and scientific modeling using Olympia Oyster restoration in the Yaquina Bay estuary as a theme. I summarize the results of this project in three primary recommendations: 1) exhibit developers should be deliberate in the decision to use a computer and only select this media if it is determined to be the best for communicating exhibit learning outcomes, 2) the design of visualizations to convey research results should be carefully modified from their scientific forms to best meet the exhibit learning outcomes and expectations of the exhibit audience, and 3) scientists should play an integral role in the development of scientific content-based exhibits, but their expertise, and the range of expertise from other members of the exhibit development team, should be strategically utilized. / Graduation date: 2012
