The F&ST experience : a narrative studyCarr, John William 05 September 2008
The purpose of this qualitative research, framed as a narrative inquiry, was to explore the experiences of a select familys participation in the Family and Schools Together (F&ST) program at an elementary school in Northwestern Saskatchewan. All members of this select family were Caucasian and of non-aboriginal descent. These participating family members, a mother, father and their three boys, told their story within the context of guided questions in the setting of individual unstructured interviews. The interviews were audio taped, transcribed, analyzed for unique and common threads and written into the form of a family narrative.
Although unique threads were discovered from the analysis, the following common experiences emerged: the importance of taking time for family, the benefit of connecting with others and building relationships, the perception of the goals behind F&ST and favourite activities. These experiences were incorporated into the family narrative.
This study offers the opportunity for a greater awareness into the impact, participation in the F&ST (Family and Schools Together) intervention program has had on one select family and how that impact can be used to strengthen the delivery of that program and encourage others to get involved. Findings from this study show that the select family in this study experienced positive growth in family relationships, and positive affiliation with their school and community as a result of participating in F&ST. The findings from this study form the basis for implications for practice as well as for areas of further research.

A Study of Fantasy Techniques in the "Für Kenner und Liebhaber"Hsu, I-ju 06 September 2004 (has links)
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach was among one of the earliest who contributed to the musical development in German & Austria region in the history of western music. He was active between 1740 and 1788. The six volumes of the Clavier-Sonaten und Freye Fantasien nebst einigen Rondos für Kenner und Liebhaber printed later in his life are greatly admired for its artistic level is comparable with the compositions of Haydn and Mozart. The thirty-seven compositions contained in the für Kenner und Liebhaber consist one common feature, the fantasy technique.
This thesis will focus on the study of Emanuel's concept of fantasy and the application of fantasy technique in the für Kenner und Liebhaber. The writing consists of three chapters apart from the preface and the conclusion. The first chapter focuses on the related background reflected through Emanuel's life, this chapter describes the different musical environments of Berlin and Hamburg in the mid-eighteen century, and the contemporary musical thoughts of recognizing variety and differentiation of human expressions. The second chapter states the printing process of the für Kenner und Liebhaber. Emanuel's selection of music was based on the combination of three aspects: the popular taste, contemporary musical concepts and his own musicality. Later in the chapter the author will focus on three fundamental liberties of free fantasy: rhythm, tonality and material freedom. The third chapter discusses how the fantasy technique is applied in the für Kenner und Liebhaber. The author will analyze the six fantasies based on three features of the fantasy technique, the effects of the technique on the musical phrases and the influences on the structure of the sonata, and finally the processors of the technique transforming the rondo from simple to complex musical form.
Many evidences show the style of fantasy suiting Emanuel's artistic talent the best. He freely applied features of other musical form in his fantasy, and yet used the fantasy technique in other types of musical in the most settle and refine manner. The für Kenner und Liebhaber is the best example of the fantasy technique and the essence of Emanuel's musical composition.

Fusion Sadia / PerdigÃo: Case Analysis in the event studies methodology / FusÃo Sadia/PerdigÃo: AnÃlise do caso sob a metodologia de estudos de eventosJean Sampaio Goes 23 July 2015 (has links)
This study's main objective is to try to identify the competitive effect of the merger between Sadia and PerdigÃo in the food market in Brazil. Since both companies have shares in the Stock Exchange, a good method to check this competitive effect is by using the Event Study. This methodology has the merit objectivity and may result in relatively simple cases: if the merger is procompetitive , the abnormal returns of rivals of the merged firms showed negative signs, otherwise, the merger may be considered anticompetitive. For database, it was used as source the Ibovespa, and data ECONOMATICA. The econometric model is a traditional OLS. The returns within the normal trajectory of financial assets will be calculated from a estimation window and the abnormal returns are calculated within the event window. Tests will be done to check the statistical significance of the data. Results of the study show that the merger can not be considered procompetitive. Results consistent with the decision of CADE.

Previous issue date: 2009-03-31 / (Orchidaceae of the State Park of Serra de Caldas Novas, Goiás State, Brazil). This study conducted a survey of the Orchidaceae species occurring at State Park of Serra de Caldas Novas (PESCAN) and a study of the floral biology and reproductive biology of Cyrtopodium eugenii Rchb. f. & Warm. and the effect of floral herbivory on reproductive success of this specie that occurs in the rocky fields of PESCAN. The Orchidaceae family consists of 850 genera, with about 20000 species, and has cosmopolitan distribution, but its greatest concentration is in the tropical region. In Brazil, 200 genera are found, with more than 2500 species, and then, it is considered the third country in the world in diversity of orchids, only inferior to Ecuador and Colombia. In the Cerrado Biome, the family is represented by 666 species, from these, 12 species and 7 genera were found in PESCAN. The most common habit among the species that occur in PESCAN is the terrestrial and the predominant flowering season is the rainy season. Only one specie flowers in the dry season, C. eugenii, a common specie in PESCAN, which flowers from May to September. Cyrtopodium eugenii flowers are pale-yellow with brown spots, but the lip is bright-yellow. The only species found as a pollinator of C. eugenii was Centris (Trachina) fuscata Lepeletier,1841 (Anthophoridae, Centridini). Although C. eugenii offers no floral rewards to pollinators, its lip seems to mimic flowers of Tetrapterys ramiflora A. Juss., a yellow-flowered oil producer Malpighiaceae. Thereby, C. eugenii deceives the pollinator. As in other species without reward, C. eugenii receives few visits from their pollinator, and consequently has a low fruit production rate. Cyrtopodium eugenii is self-compatible, but no fruit was generated by spontaneous self-pollination as well as agamospermy. Preliminary field observations revealed that inflorescences and flowers of C. eugenii experience continuous florivory. The natural florivory quantification shows that 55.20% of the flowers weren t eaten, while in 15.45% sexual structures were eaten (florivory direct effect). More flowers had the lip damaged (20.50%) than the other petals and sepals (18.92%). A manipulative experiment showed a significant decrease in C. eugenii reproductive success (male and female), only if the florivory occurred in the lip (florivory indirect effects). This result indicates that the lip is the most important flower part to attract the pollinator and to C. eugenii reproduction, because even with a high level of herbivory in the other petals and sepals, the reproductive success didn t decay significantly.

Psychological Bisexuality And Otherness In The Novels Of Angela Carter, Virginia Woolf, Marge Piercy And Ursula Le Guin: A Study From The Perspective Of Ecriture FemininePeksen Yanikoglu, Seda 01 April 2008 (has links) (PDF)
This study analyses The Passion of New Eve by Angela Carter, Orlando by Virginia Woolf, Woman on the Edge of Time by Marge Piercy and The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula Le Guin from the perspective of é / criture fé / minine. After a thorough discussion of the roots of é / criture fé / minine, the theory of the French feminists is put into practice in the analysis of the novels. The study asserts that the concepts of bisexuality, the other and the voice are common elements in novels of é / criture fé / minine, thereby the novelists mentioned in the study follow the propositions of Hé / lè / ne Cixous, Julia Kristeva and Lucé / Irigaray. The argument of the study is that the use of é / criture fé / minine as portrayed with reference to the novels, can be an efficient way in deconstructing the patriarchal system of language. Literature has a significant influence on social life, however women cannot make themselves heard using the language of patriarchy. Therefore an alternative such as é / criture fé / minine is essential. This study shows how this alternative can be practiced in various ways and it also creates the opportunity to consider the possibilities of alternative lives if this kind of thinking is widespread.
