The homing of the home: Exploring gendered work, leisure, social construction, and loss through women’s family memory keeping

Mulcahy, Caitlin January 2012 (has links)
Using a feminist, autoethnographic methodology and in depth interviews with twenty-three participants, I sought to better understand the meaning of family memory keeping for women and their families through this research, paying particular attention to the ways that dominant gender ideologies shape family memory and the act of preserving family memory. This research also endeavoured to explore those instances wherein families lose that memory keeper due to memory loss, absence, or death. Interviews revealed that, despite its absence from the literature, women’s family memory keeping is a valuable form of gendered labour – and leisure – that makes significant individual, familial, and social contributions, while simultaneously reproducing dominant gender ideologies and gendered constructions of fatherhood, motherhood, and the family. Through an exploration of the loss of a mother’s memory due to illness, death, or absence, this study also demonstrated the loss of a mother’s memory is both deeply felt, and deeply gendered. However, this study illustrated participants challenging these dominant gender ideologies, as well, and using family memory keeping as a way to resist, critique, and cope. As such, this study speaks to the absence of women’s family memory keeping from the gendered work, leisure studies, social construction, and loss literature, contributing a better understanding of both the activity itself and the gendered ideologies that shape the activity, as well. Not only does this study speak to gaps in existing literature, but findings make fresh theoretical contributions to this literature through three new concepts: the notion of the good mother as the “remembering mother”, the concept of “compliance leisure”, and the re-envisioning of women’s unpaid labour as contributing to “the homing of the home”. And with these contributions to the literature, this research also provides valuable insight for professionals working to improve policy and services surrounding postpartum care, individual and family therapy, caregiving, extended care, and palliative care.

We review a few exegetical discussions about the text. Understand it as a family teaching of the free and possessing land population in Judah, century VII.aC. It presents narratively the redemptive acts of Yahweh: the exodus, the gift of land and laws. Among these acts, highlights the exodus, as the foundation of freedom, and the articulation with the law. On the other hand the laws are the way of maintaining freedom by defending the right of the socially weak. In this dynamic of the family catechesis, two categories are important, teaching and memory.

Immigration italienne en Finistère : parcours d'intégration / Italian immigration in Finistère : career of integration

Emery, Céline 06 September 2013 (has links)
The choice of the Brittany can be a surprise when it is a question of treating Italian migrations. The foreigners always formed in the region a relatively minority group, theItalians including. Nevertheless we observe from the second half of the 19th century on the whole Breton territory, the constitution of long-lasting migrant networks, always perceptible today. What reasons urged these transalpine migrants to put down their suitcases if far from the important Italian communities established in the Southeast of France or the Parisian East? Beyond a reflection on the modalities of the setting-up of an Italian population in the department, it will be a question of wondering about the career of the migrants and more particularly about the strategies implemented to "become integrated" into the local microcosms. Through the memory narratives collected with families stemming from the Italian immigration, we shall try to understand how the migratory act of the ancestor impact on the identical reorganizations of the descendants.

Mapas Fotográficos: memória familiar, sociabilidade e transformações urbanas em São Paulo (1920-1960) / Photographical maps: family memory, sociability and urban transformations in São Paulo (1920-1960)

Bispo, Alexandre Araujo 28 November 2012 (has links)
The purpose of the present study is to analyze a collection of photographs taken between 1920 and 1960. During that length of time, Cleonice Maria Heine (1919 - ?) was the subject of visual description. From these photos three cross-related topics arise: family memory, urban culture and displacements regarding leisure and tourism towards the coast and the countryside of the State of São Paulo. Through photo consumption, which became democratic along the XXth century, Nelli created an image of herself, of the city itself and of some completely new tourist destinations to the beach and the countryside. The sample, formed by 139 images, allows us to conclude that photography meant to that character a stand of communication through which she played several social roles such as: urban woman, a saleswoman who enjoyed the benefits promoted by the Social Service of Commerce, consumer, student, sister, sisterin- law, tourist, by producing different subjectivity and sociability.

Vyjednávání a rozumění pojmu domov v rodině českých reemigrantů z rumunského Banátu / Negotiating and understanding of the concept of home in the family of Czech re-emigrants from the Romanian Banat

Baudyšová, Jana January 2011 (has links)
The diploma thesis is based on a seven-month research of a family of Czech re-emigrants from the Romanian Banat. The aim of the research was to find out how these people understand the term home, how they negotiate it and what they related to it; the method employed here consisted of qualitative interviews. The researched sample does not represent the whole population, but rather the studied issue. The main focus was to gather as much exhaustive (and therefore related to understanding, negotiating and constructing of the meaning of the concept home) data related to the issue of home as possible within the given family rather than any universal application or generalization of the collected data to the whole of the Czech re-emigrants from the Banat. The author defines the term home as multidimensional, stemming from an individual and group experience, and from the current situation of an individual person; and as such she tries to depict it through different theoretical concepts. The thesis also presents an outline of a historical-sociological context of the existence of a Czech minority in Romania and its re-emigration. In relation to the main topic of home also emerged other topics, such as motivations for re-emigration, perceptions of Romania and the Czech Republic, response of the majority...
