Previous issue date: 2006-10-06 / This paper aimed at showing the relationship father-daughter in attempt to
understand the way this relationship affects the development of a woman in her
career.
In this sense, we looked forward both to some characteristics of this relationship and
the attitude of a young adult woman in her professional work. The analysis also
permitted the discussion about these characteristics whether they were attached to
the image of the father or to the parental complex, thus, affecting or not the behavior
of a woman in her professional environment. In addition, we also examined a partial
integration of the animus in this crucial moment of the life of a woman.
The qualitatative method was employed in this search and semi-structured interviews
were conducted with six young adult women. The participants´ mean age was
between 28 and 35 years of age.
The results indicate that the relationship father-daughter is significant for the women
both in terms of development of affection as well as in terms of guidance to her
career. Anyway, we realized that the majority of women are still attached to one or
other parental complex, so, while the influence of the father is important at the
moment of choosing a career, conversely, the representation of the mother works as
an anti-model . We also realized that the dimension of the animus of action
influences most of our interviewees. In this way, the animus has been partially
integrated in the life of a woman, playing an important role in this particularly period
of her life / Esta pesquisa procurou compreender o relacionamento pai-filha, e suas
conseqüências no desenvolvimento da mulher no trabalho profissional.
ainda vinculada a algum complexo parental.

Trophies or Treasures: The Burden of Choice for Mothers, Wives, and Daughters in Washington Square, The Portrait of a Lady, and The Bostonians.Huisman, Melissa C. 05 May 2007 (has links)
In the world of Henry James's novels, characters are often placed in difficult situations where their happiness depends on their ability to make a free choice. Female characters are manipulated and diminished by a patriarchal system that not only seeks to subordinate their will, but also to objectify them, to place them on the shelf as a trophy. Fathers and husbands are typically the controlling agents, but James also presents women who appropriate the dominating role.
With varying degrees of success, each female character rejects the status of trophy. Instead, each attempts to make choices and determine her own future. James allows for ambiguity and nuanced resolutions. With ambiguity comes hope in the steadfastness of Catherine Sloper in Washington Square, in the tragic heroism of Isabel Archer in The Portrait of a Lady, and even in the sacrificial loss of Verena Tarrant for Olive Chancellor in The Bostonians.

Identité sexuée et enjeu culturel, la construction de l'identité chez les adolescents en Syrie / Sexual identity and the culture challenge, the shaping of the sexual identity among adolescents in SyriaChawa, Hanadi 27 September 2014 (has links)
This thesis seeks to study the relationship between fathers and daughters in a postmodern patriarchal society. Choosing the Syrian society as its main case study, the paper aims to crystallize a better understanding of how such relationships are established as well as exploring their characteristics, consequences, and effects on adolescence in general, and on teenagers in particular. It also focuses on the transformation effects from the current world, depending on subjective construction, expressions of suffering inherent to human conditions in the new symbolic order that imposes liberalism on interpersonal relations, galloping globalized economy ; and the technologization of exchange among the speaking-beings/parlêtres (Lesourd, 2007a, p. 11-12).The aforementioned factors this paper analyzes encourage further investigation into the influence of modernity on father-daughter bonds. Such investigation is particularly important in light of the remarkable and increasing number of suicide attempts among young girls and women in the Arab region, likely in response to difficulties they face. These suicide attempts, we argue, are a result of fathers’ absence, and the authority which could be abusively opposed to parents as per Serge LESOURD, holding them responsible for violence by their children. Lesourd argues that “fathers did not quit, on the contrary, the reference system which had given them weight, has been modified in the occident” (Lesourd, 2003, p.36). We believe that the case in the Arab world is similar to the one described by Lesourd. The paper is divided into two parts : the first contains theoretical reflections while the second contains clinical examples about the construction of Syrian female teenagers’ sexual identity. This clinical projective study was carried out as part of CoPsyEnfant research, conducted by l’URP/SCLS in Strasbourg.

Developing Courageous Influence: The Direct Impact of Society, Cultural Views, and Good Father-Daughter Relationships on Adolescent GirlsHicks, III, Kennie 03 April 2020 (has links)
Fathers play a major role in their son’s lives. From teaching them how to play football to having the birds and the bees talk with them. Statistics show that a son is greatly affected by whether his father is around or not. So that leaves the question of are girls just as affected as boys are by a father’s presence? For example, what did Mulan, the movie character, have in her life that some girls do not? A rare, yet healthy bond with her father could be the very factor that affected her attitude, values, and beliefs tremendously. The Social Learning Theory and nature versus nurture ideology are used to explain how this factor could be the very difference in her overall development. Briefly discussed is the Social Learning Theory, nature versus nurture ideology, Chinese culture, Mulan’s relationship with her father and how it correlates with Mulan’s overall development.

Mother TongueGreene, Kianna 01 January 2024 (has links) (PDF)
Mother Tongue is an exploration of loneliness as a first language. For the collection's speaker, loneliness is not an abstract emotion, but her first movement, first breath – her mother tongue.
Through depictions of childhood and young adulthood, such as the origins of birth in "birth speak" or the mature reflections of "like adults should do," Mother Tongue answers the question — who does a child wrought with loneliness become?
Using language to translate the sentiments of the body, the many faces of grief, and the mosaic of memory, the collection traverses the speaker's relationship with her mother as a nurturer of pain in poems like "on an evening walk in mt. vernon," with her father as a witness of his near-death experience in "the night I learn my father's kidneys are failing," and with her brother as a shadow of his mental illnesses in "a conversation with my brother as test."
Throughout the collection, poems like "a letter to my father's subconscious" and "what I've learned about absence while studying korean" play with false cognates and the elasticity of sound, while poems like "glimmers" make a connection between the instinct of hunger and the recurrence of loneliness, where the speaker relishes, "in spanish, I can say I have hunger / as if I could give it back."
Acting as Mother Tongue's anchor is the "vacation in_____" series, which features the speaker in conversation with a male partner and describes a depth of loneliness unalleviated by presence, ultimately conveying the inability to find satisfaction in another person.
From grappling with an inner deadness in "[the dead girl]" to finding hope in "new heaven, new earth," Mother Tongue is a wrestle with language, the self, the past, and God, cementing itself as a journey toward reconciliation, and if possible, being birthed again.

The increasing awareness about the important role that fathers play in their daughters’ lives, have lead to the undertaking of this study. The goal of this study was to determine whether there is a specific parenting style of fathers that will contribute to the achieving of a higher level of emotional intelligence in grade 2 daughters.
Quantitative research with an exploratory and descriptive nature was used. Data were collected with the use of the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ) as well as the Cilliers Emotional Intelligence Test. Psychologické aspekty vztahu otce a dcery / Psychological Aspects of the Father-Daughter RelationshipMatoušková, Lenka January 2012 (has links)
MATOUŠKOVÁ, Lenka. Psychological Aspects of the Father-Daughter Relationship. Prague: The Faculty of Arts of Charles University, 2012. 259 pgs. The final thesis. The title of this work is "Psychological Aspects of Father-Daughter Relationship". In its theoretical part it summarizes mainly Czech, but also some foreign, contributions related to the topic of fatherhood, the specifics of paternal behavior and the importance of a functional father for the psychological development of girls. The issue is also viewed from the perspective of possible negative impacts on the psychological development of women who grew up without their fathers. The analysis is primarily focused on their problems with self- esteem, self-confidence and self-image, identity, emotions and emotional life but also on difficulties in future partner and intimate relationships. The theoretical part, with regard to the research, also discusses the concept of risk and protective factors. It respects the current trend of leaving aside pathogenic and shifting towards salutogenic factors, so it focuses mainly on mapping the protective factors in the psychological development of girls who grew up without their fathers while not excluding the risk factors. In the practical part, the topic is treated in qualitative way using retrospective...
