Application to burst prediction of hyperbaric wound composite pressure vessels

Berro Ramírez, Juan Pedro 28 November 2013 (has links)
A damage model dedicated to wound composite is developed by using the tools of continuousdamage mechanics, irreversible processes thermodynamics and the representation theory of tensorfunctions. The particularity of this model is the use of a fixed directions approach of damage whichassociates each degradation mode to internal scalar variables and directional tensors. Fiber breakage(considered probabilistic), matrix cracking (transverse, out-of-plane or caused by shear) are thustaken into account. The model is able to reproduce, in a three-dimensional context imposed bythick composite layers, loss of strength, interaction between initial and induced anisotropy, nonlinearitybehavior, residual strain and shear viscosity. To validate this approach, thermo mechanicalbehavior of specimens from the wound structures was characterized by tensile multi - instrumentedtests (video - traction, acoustic emission, ...). We show that the model is able to simulate not onlythe macroscopic mechanical response of these samples, but also to reproduce the recorded acousticemission to distinguish the various forms of damage and to accurately predict the burst ofhyperbaric tanks.

La buena fe en el procedimiento civil

Cartes Pino, Rodrigo A. January 2009 (has links)

Pasquel Rodríguez, Enrique 11 May 2015 (has links)

Plastic UV radiation protection operating by Stokes emission

Li, Rui January 2013 (has links)
A range of inorganic nanoparticles/nanophosphors that act as ultraviolet radiation absorbers were characterised and assessed in this thesis. Iron doped lithium aluminate phosphor was synthesised using a solid state reaction and also by flame spray pyrolysis. The phosphors prepared by different synthesis methods were characterised to identify their crystal structures and morphologies. Downconverting photoluminescent properties of the phosphors both as pure powders and embedded in polypropylene by co-rotating twin screw extrusion are reported. Zinc oxide nanoparticles made by flame spray pyrolysis were also investigated. They were incorporated into polymers by means of three different approaches including co-rotating twin screw extrusion, spin coating and solvent casting. The resulted composite films were explored to understand the distribution of the zinc oxide nanoparticles. The transmittance and ultraviolet absorption of the nanocomposites were studied and are reported herein. Another set of nanophosphors studied were zinc rich luminescent zinc oxides. They were prepared from the zinc oxide nanoparticles by firing them in a reducing atmosphere. The as-prepared nanophosphors manifested good downconverting photoluminescent properties and maintained their functions when embedded into polystyrene by solvent casting. In this thesis a new route of synthesising aluminium doped zinc oxide nanoparticles was also established. This new approach was based on a series of unexpected results within some trials that were attempting to coat a layer of alumina on the zinc oxide nanoparticles. The concentration of the Al3+ in the final product could be adjusted by tailoring the amount of the Al3+ in the reactants during the synthesis procedures. It was also possible to coat various zinc oxide nanostructures with the aluminium doped zinc oxide.

An Experimental Investigation of the Relative Effectiveness of Two Methods of Teaching Mechanical Drawing

McSpadden, C. B. 08 1900 (has links)
The purpose of this study was twofold: First, to analyze two methods of teaching mechanical drawing in the seventh grade by conducting an experiment to determine by which method the greatest amount of achievement was obtained by the students in the ability to visualize, sketch, letter, and understand three-view drawing; and second, to recommend a work plan and certain teaching techniques for teaching mechanical drawing in the seventh grade of the Santa Fe, New Mexico Junior High School, based upon the method by which the greater amount of achievement was indicated in the study.

IR spectroscopy based kinetic modeling of NH3-SCR on Fe-zeolites : application for diesel engines aftertreatment system simulation / Modélisation de la SCR au NH3 sur zéolithes au fer, basée sur spectroscopie IR : application pour la simulation des systèmes de post-traitement des moteurs diesel

Skarlis, Stavros 20 September 2013 (has links)
Selective Catalytic Reduction of nitrogen oxides through urea or ammonia is a well established technique for the efficient abatement of NOx, from mobile diesel engines exhaust stream. Among catalytic formulations proposed, Fe-exchanged zeolites are considered as promising SCR catalysts, due to their enhanced deNOx performance over a broad range of operating temperatures, as well as significant resistance to hydrothermal ageing. In the present work, detailed experimental investigation of the NH3-SCR reactions network over Fe zeolites was performed in order to develop a phenomenological macro-kinetic model oriented to diesel engines aftertreatment system simulation. Dedicated experiments, including IR spectroscopy measurements were performed over lab-synthesized H- and Fe-BEA catalysts in order to unravel mechanistic aspects related to the formation and interactions of ammonia and nitrogen oxides adspecies (namely nitrate and nitrites) on acidic and redox catalytic sites. Formation and decomposition of NH4NO3 was of particular concern. Based on experimental results a multi-site kinetic model was developed, which was able to account for surface acidity variation, interactions of gaseous NH3 and NOx species with iron sites, as well as low temperature physisorption phenomena. The model was successfully validated through simulation of experiments performed over various Fe-zeolite samples, applying a broad range of operating conditions, which showed the interest of the followed approach.

Atomistic Studies of Point Defect Migration Rates in the Iron-Chromium System

Hetherly, Jeffery 08 1900 (has links)
Generation and migration of helium and other point defects under irradiation causes ferritic steels based on the Fe-Cr system to age and fail. This is motivation to study point defect migration and the He equation of state using atomistic simulations due to the steels' use in future reactors. A new potential for the Fe-Cr-He system developed by collaborators at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory was validated using published experimental data. The results for the He equation of state agree well with experimental data. The activation energies for the migration of He- and Fe-interstitials in varying compositions of Fe-Cr lattices agree well with prior work. This research did not find a strong correlation between lattice ordering and interstitial migration energy
