Estratégias da direção: processos de realização em longas metragens brasileiros contemporâneos / Film direction strategies: filmmaking processes in contemporary brazilian feature films.

Müller, Marcelo Rodrigo Mingoti 10 November 2010 (has links)
The aim of the research is to understand the work of the contemporary Brazilian film director through the reconstruction of the creative process of five feature films which were recently shot, and the strategies followed by the directors in order to build their works. The analysis focused on five films: Antônia\" (Tata Amaral, 2006), Cama de Gato (Alexandre Stockler, 2002), O Magnata (Johnny Araujo, 2007), A Via Láctea (Lina Chamie, 2007) e Estômago (Marcos Jorge, 2007). We also witnessed a day of shooting of the film Amanhã Nunca Mais (Tadeu Jungle, now in post production) and the making process of the short film Gris (Iana Cossoy Paro, 2005), shot in an academically controlled environment. This study on Communication regards the film director as an agent related to a process that evolves through time and space, with influences coming from diverse sources, from the social issues he considers of interest in the creation of the project to the material structure for the production, making decisions over the different working methods followed in the construction of the work. From a methodological point of view, we decided to apply concepts from Critica do Processo, developed by Cecília Salles (2006), in order to analyze the works as the construction of a moving net in time. This decision let our project free from the need of having to focus our analysis on the finished film as the main reference for the study, also suggesting a new way to study the process of filmmaking.

Canadian and Australian Feature Film Policy in Perspective: A Comparative Study from 1968 to 1998

McKenzie, Susan M., n/a January 2004 (has links)
This comparative study is an investigation into the changing concerns of feature film policy in Canada and Australia from 1968 to 1998. Its purpose is to determine how similar policy initiatives have produced divergent results in two economically, culturally and socially similar nations. The inquiry's aim is to establish what financial, political and geographic variables affect the application of feature film policy. While resemblances between these nations justify the contrasting of comparable feature film policy initiatives, differences in outcomes suggest that these nations are not entirely alike. Therefore, rather than following the leads of comparable national agencies, film policy makers in Canada and Australia need to concentrate on conditions specific to their own particular situation.

Film om film : En analys av dokumentärfilmer om fiktionsfilmer / Film on film : An analysis of documentaries on feature films

Strömberg, Daniel January 2003 (has links)

This thesis is a study of documentaries about fictional feature films. The development of the DVD format has contributed strongly to their massive increase in quantity. The capacity of the format enables film companies to include more material than the feature film itself. As some people regard this type of documentary as self-righteous and presumtious, others think of it as a great educational aid giving the audience a greater understanding of the intentions of the director and others involved, thus adding more levels to the experience of watching movies. By using established theory on documentary I’m trying to find distinctive features of ‘documentary on fiction’.
/

Framing the Feature Film : Multi-Reel Feature Film and American Film Culture in the 1910s

Frykholm, Joel January 2009 (has links)
This dissertation addresses the breakthrough of the multi-reel feature film in the United States, and the significance of this process within the wider context of the American film industry and culture in the 1910s. The purpose is to provide a new, and more comprehensive analytical framing of the topic, and to enhance our understanding of how a new central commodity, i.e. the multi-reel feature film, changed the conditions for film exhibition and reception. The introduction links the breakthrough of the multi-reel feature film to an array of film-historical transformations unfolding in the US around the same time. A critical assessment of previous scholarly work dealing with the early feature is also provided. Part I analyzes how the breakthrough of the multi-reel feature film was negotiated within the trade and by contemporary commentators. The result is a multi-perspective framing of the topic that highlights the complexity of these cultural negotiations and the uncertainty over cinema’s possible futures. Part II shifts attention to film culture and film exhibition in Philadelphia around 1914. The objective of this case study, largely based on newspaper sources, is to examine how the increasingly common multi-reel feature film was integrated into and/or changed the existing film culture in the city. The main conclusion is that experimentation and diversity rather than smooth transitions characterized the local response to the emergence of features. Part III deepens the investigation of local diversity by offering a case study of one particular film: The Spoilers (Selig Polyscope Co., 1914). The conditions of the film’s historical reception are outlined, and particular attention is given to the film’s role in the Americanization of the feature film market.

Editing the independent, digital feature film, mosaic

McMillan, Matthew Christopher January 2007 (has links)
The production of the independent, digital feature film titled Mosaic was performed on a very low budget. The design and implementation of the post-production of the film required consideration of budgetary constraints, and solutions to these constraints that would still allow the creative freedom of the editor and the director. The technical design was based around digital filmmaking technology. The choice of this technology influenced how the editor was able to address aesthetic and technical challenges.

Escalante Cunningham, Elena María Fe 24 May 2021 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to identify the elements of a socio-cultural nature that were part of the internal armed struggle in Peru, that are evidenced in sociocultural audiovisual elements in the Peruvian Cinema, especially in the cases of the feature films: La Boca del Lobo (1988) and Paloma de Papel (2003). The assumptions that were formulated is that the Peruvian Cinema uses the sociocultural context of the country for the production of cinematographic audiovisual material and this case was analyzed from the situation of the Internal Armed conflict in Peru, considering two feature films: La Boca del Lobo, released in in 1988 directed by Francisco Lombardi and Paloma de Papel by Fabrizio Aguilar, released in 2003. In the course of the research work, it is analyzed, how what happened in the year 1980 and 2000 in Peru marked a milestone in the history of the country, as well as in the society that lived through these events, sowing anxiety, fear and terror in them, even reducing audience attendance at the cinema. In the field work, it was analyzed, how this type of feature films makes use of elements from the sociocultural context of the time; as is the internal armed conflict, recreating the reality of that historical period, in some national audiovisual products such as feature films. Therefore, throughout these pages it will be evident how Peruvian cinema does make use of the sociocultural context in its stories and more in the case of the proposed films: La Boca del Lobo and Paloma de Papel. / Tesis
