Shortening time-series power flow simulations for cost-benefit analysis of LV network operation with PV feed-in

López, Claudio David January 2015 (has links)
Time-series power flow simulations are consecutive power flow calculations on each time step of a set of load and generation profiles that represent the time horizon under which a network needs to be analyzed. These simulations are one of the fundamental tools to carry out cost-benefit analyses of grid planing and operation strategies in the presence of distributed energy resources, unfortunately, their execution time is quite substantial. In the specific case of cost-benefit analyses the execution time of time-series power flow simulations can easily become excessive, as typical time horizons are in the order of a year and different scenarios need to be compared, which results in time-series simulations that require a rather large number of individual power flow calculations. It is often the case that only a set of aggregated simulation outputs is required for assessing grid operation costs, examples of which are total network losses, power exchange through MV/LV substation transformers, and total power provision from PV generators. Exploring alternatives to running time-series power flow simulations with complete input data that can produce approximations of the required results with a level of accuracy that is suitable for cost-benefit analyses but that require less time to compute can thus be beneficial. This thesis explores and compares different methods for shortening time-series power flow simulations based on reducing the amount of input data and thus the required number of individual power flow calculations, and focuses its attention on two of them: one consists in reducing the time resolution of the input profiles through downsampling while the other consists in finding similar time steps in the input profiles through vector quantization and simulating them only once. The results show that considerable execution time reductions and sufficiently accurate results can be obtained with both methods, but vector quantization requires much less data to produce the same level of accuracy as downsampling. Vector quantization delivers a far superior trade-off between data reduction, time savings, and accuracy when the simulations consider voltage control or when more than one simulation with the same input data is required, as in such cases the data reduction process can be carried out only once. One disadvantage of this method is that it does not reproduce peak values in the result profiles with accuracy, which is due to the way downsampling disregards certain time steps in the input profiles and to the averaging effect vector quantization has on the them. This disadvantage makes the simulations shortened through these methods less precise, for example, for detecting voltage violations.

VALIDATION AND CONFORMITYTEST OF CGMES MODELS OFENTSO-E TEST NETWORKS

Zhao, Yiqi January 2016 (has links)
To achieve optimal resource sharing and enhance the sustainability of energy supply, the need for cross-border power transmission is continuously growing. Therefore, frequent information exchange with detailed grid data is required. To standardize such exchange and thus to facilitate common power system studies in Europe, the Common Grid Model Exchange Standard (CGMES) based on IEC CIM (Common Information Models) was issued by ENTSO-E (European Network of Transmission Operators for Electricity) in 2013. A CGMES conformity assessment process was also set up to encourage and examine the adoption of CGMES with relevant power system applications. The main purpose of this thesis is to validate that the Network Manager product of ABB has implemented CGMES properly. Power flow calculations are performed based on ENTSO-E’s test networks and the solutions obtained are compared with the standard results as well as the results from Power Factory (a power system analysis tool from DIgSILENT that has already passed the conformity assessment successfully).  The comparison results are analyzed thus to identify causes of any variation from the standard power flow solutions and to give suggestions for future development of Network Manager.

Beräkning av pumpkapacitet samt konstruktion av pumpfundament / Calculation of pump capacity and construction of a pump foundation

Beijer, Anton, Lindholm, Magnus January 2013 (has links)
A development project to solve problems with why submersible pumps in a run-off system broke down with periods of two years, on average, was performed in collaboration with Cementa AB in Skövde. Reason for the pumps breakdowns was searched and found to be inadequate procedures and missing knowledge of the maintenance required on the pumps. To solve this problem, guidelines for the purchase of new dry pit pumps were developed to allow for continuous maintenance. As the possibilities of placing a dry well pump did not exist at Cementa, a pump foundation was developed. Requirements for the development work were produced in cooperation with Cementas maintenance department and theoretical dimensioning of the submersible bilge pumps volume flow capacity was performed. Requirements were evaluated and weighted using Pairwise comparison. The design and control of the strength of the developed pump foundation was performed using finite element analysis in the software Pro/Engineer Creo 1.0 Mechanica. Controls of the strength of the attachment of the pump foundation and welds were performed analytically. The work resulted in a recommendation to Cementa AB in Skövde to bring in quotes on the new dry-pit pumps using the developed guidelines and to manufacture the pump foundation developed within the framework of the thesis. Cementa was also recommended to carefully follow the maintenance instructions for pumps and make it easier for staff to perform this maintenance. This was recommended to ensure that new pumps would have a longer and more economical lifetime.

Reservmatningsmöjligheter vid transformatorhaveri / Backup power supply in case of transformer breakdown

Jarl, Markus, Bengtsson, Fredrik January 2015 (has links)
Kungälv Energi owns and is responsible of Kungälv municipality's electricity grid. With an increasing population and increasing demands on the grid and especially security of supply. With cold winters and large energy gives rise to a more difficult situation regarding security of supply. Currently, Kungälv Energi two receiving stations, a 130 / 10kV station and 130 / 20kV station. 130 / 10kV station is approaching a point where power demand is approaching the maximum distribution capacity. Therefore sets out a plan to cope with the power demand at the failure of one of two 130 / 10kV transformers of the receiving station M1. The results of the report shows that sufficient capacity is available in nearby distribution stations to cope with the emergency operation under high loads without any other components damaged. The report deals primarily with power flows to check that they do not exceed transformers, lines and cables rated power. In the majority of cases have also factors for distress load been counted with, which gives the result that all lines of Kungälv Energi can handle the increased load. Detected bottlenecks in the network have been highlighted, communicated and proposed changes to Kungälv Energi to prevent future problems.

Urychlení výpočtů v životním pojištění / Acceleration of calculations in life insurance

Kuzminskaya, Kseniya January 2018 (has links)
One of the major issue for life insurance companies is proper and consistent valuation of liabilities. This thesis introduces the standard estimation methods used in practice and discussed the alternative methods, which might help to speed up these calculations. It studies two possible methods of acceleration of calcu- lations in life insurance: analytic function and cluster analysis. The outcome of these work is comparison of discussed methods applied on generated life insur- ance portfolio. All methods were applied on two possible insurance products. Comparison of the results is based on the calculation precision and time needed to process the liabilities of the insurance company's portfolio. 1

A Performance Evaluation of Low Pressure Carbon Dioxide Discharge Test

Lee, Sung-Mo 30 April 2004 (has links)
For gaseous fire extinguishing systems, the maximum percent of agent in pipe, i.e., pipe volume vs. agent liquid volume should be determined for proper system design and performance by confirming the maximum length of pipe run in which their flow calculation methods can predict the discharge pressures and agent concentration. It is the purpose of this paper to determine the ability and limitations of the NFPA 12 flow calculation methodology to identify the maximum percent of agent in pipe by conducting full scale low-pressure CO2 system discharge tests. A total of twenty low-pressure CO2 system discharge tests were conducted under different conditions. If all the measured pressures at the three node points of pipe runs and the measured CO2 concentrations in the test enclosures did not deviate from the predicted values of computerized flow calculations by more than ¡¾10 percent, the tests were judged to be acceptable. In the test results, the low-pressure CO2 system with a pipe run exceeding 492 ft (150 m) was not likely to achieve the concentration required for fire extinguishment within the determined discharge time although the pipe network was installed in compliance with the calculations based on the pressure drop equation in NFPA 12.

Vliv disperzních zdrojů na DS 22 kV při vřazení transformovny TR 110/22 KV / Effect of distributed generation on medium voltage 22 kV distribution system operation with a new 110/22 kV feeder

Konopová, Tamara January 2018 (has links)
This thesis deals with the issue of power flow analysis in a medium voltage (22kV) distribution network with a focus on the influence of distributed energy generation recources. At first the issue of operation of distributed energy resources and their reverse effects on the distribution system is presented in the thesis. Furtherly there are described their operational conditions from the legislation point of view. The part dealing with calculation compares two network configurations in terms of power quality and how the power quality is impacted by distributed energy resources. The attention is given to voltage conditions, short-circuit power, power conditions, losses and flicker. The first configuration corresponds to the real situation in the network, the other one is describing the changes after the new 110/22 kV substation implementation to the power supply area and the overal change of network configuration. The network model and run simulation is done using the E-Vlivy program.

Study of a generation capacity expansion on an island

Guilmineau, Justine Valérie Magali January 2020 (has links)
The study carried out in this master thesis is part of a larger project led by Energynautics GmbH focusing on renewable energy development in the Caribbean. One of the Caribbean states, consisting of multiple islands, has set a target of 30 % of renewable energy in the power sector by 2030. The first objective of the thesis is to develop optimal generation capacity expansion plans for two different islands of this country, utilizing solar PV generation, which is the only available renewable energy resource. To achieve this objective, three main tasks are identified. The first is the development of an optimal generation capacity expansion plan for the next three years using the optimization tool HOMER Energy. At the beginning only diesel generation is present on the islands. For each study case year, the installed capacity of PV and BESS is optimized and enabling technologies such as curtailment (controllability of PV) and grid-forming inverters are deployed. The second task focuses on the development of a new dispatch strategy, improving on the black box dispatch algorithms built into HOMER. The dispatch strategy minimises the cost of electricity generation and is based on a rolling 48 hours forecasts of the load and PV. It is implemented in MATLAB and linked to HOMER via the built-in MATLAB interface. As HOMER is focused on generation expansion and dispatch and inherently neglects the grid, a grid study is required to assess the stability of the network. This study is the last task of the thesis and is limited to determined steady-state voltage and the asset loading on one of the studied islands through load flow simulations in DIgSILENT PowerFactory. It is shown that there are no major issues even at high PV shares, however, grid performance can be improved if the PV unit is equipped with reactive power capability to control the voltage. A study on the impact of the Q(U)- control and the PQ-capability of the PV and BESS inverters is performed.

Návrh přírodě blízkých opatření na vodním toku Bobrava / Proposal for the nature friendly measures on the river Bobrava

Mláděnka, Jakub January 2019 (has links)
The aim of the diploma thesis is to describe and evaluate in detail the current state of the Bobrava river in the interest section – river kilometer 1,832-5,743. Part of the work is to assess the capacity of the river flow and the objects connected with it and find the class of an actual safety at village Zelesice. The calculation of the flow rate is performed by using the 1D mathematical model HEC-RAS for selected N-year flows. On the basis of the results of the flow rate, it is made the idea of natural freindly flood protection before the value of the 20-year flow. The result is two variants of river basin adjustment, when each one is leading to make Zelesice safer place and to improve the current state of the river Bobrava.
