Lost and Found : Activating forgotten space and knowledge

Jonasson, Rasmus January 2022 (has links)
The project proposes the production of devices to enhance the value or experience of a place as well as to allow research and education in history, collective memory and contemporary times of the city that we live in. Looking at the city through a specific type of architecture, concept or material, and hopefully giving an honest perspective of the space we inhabit. For this project the topic was contemporary ruins and their structural and visual values. Cataloging the timber barn, exploring it in an industrial hall and then exhibiting them on the concrete dolphins in the river, all buildings or structures created purely for convenience but have since lost all or some of this convenience, therefore becoming contemporary ruins. In the end creating structures with the purpose of learning, exhibiting them for others to learn as well; and in the end finding a place and purpose for the structure. Turning the building from a research project into a folly and then into a device for experience. Producing with the goal of learning, placing with the goal of enhancing, without designing specifically for the end product but rather for the process itself.

Such questions are presented from the clinical history of Rosa and from the tale, O Homem da Areia, from E.T.A Hoffmann which, in their specificities present approximated logics. For explanation of the propositions of this paper, through the freudo-lacanian literature, tributary relations are established between the concepts of: maternal, focusing on the deadly face of an embodiment of pleasure; of Verleugnung in its relationship with the maternal belief; and feminine while a position in the sexual. Regard to this, the figure of an outline that encloses and includes a maternal body, is an aid for guiding assumptions of this study. The figures of the automaton and the mortified woman are presented as forms of passion. These seek to represent the unrepresentative, what is from the real field, in the case of this study, ways that utter an extreme passion. Conditions found in other passionate disorders in which there is a devastation of the subject, by tapping the irreducible field of language. In this direction, it is suggested a medical device called Fort-da literary, in which the subject can build and translate its conflict literally. This study draws the passionate follies as a psychopathology which points out to contemporary social issues. From the assumption that, in those psychopathological settings, there is a depletion of the narrative, indicating a discursive configuration similar to a contemporary narrative specificity / Esta pesquisa é dedicada ao tema das loucuras passionais, concebendo-as sob o ângulo da recusa do feminino no materno.

From Lada to Folly : Revealing the Origin of Kiruna

Halvorsen, August Junge January 2020 (has links)
"From Lada to Folly" investigates the relationship between an agricultural artefact of Northern Sweden, ladan, and the move of the city of Kiruna. A lada is a structure to store hay which dates back to medieval times as a part of månghussystemet, a Swedish building tradition where each house on a farm had one function. Ladan was analysed on different scales through mapping, photography and model making with the aim of understanding its relation to the landscape. The scale, placement and orientation were the most significant. Subsequently, this information was translated via diagrams to form the basis of a proposal in Kiruna. Four core values are the foundation of Kiruna: timber, water, iron and people. Timber, because the first buildings were built out of wood and because coal from the forest was used to fuel the engines of the mine. Water, as a mode of transportation and a source of energy. Iron, the oar is the main reason why Kiruna exists. People, in the same way natural resources have been extracted out of Kiruna, people have been sent to the city to facilitate this process. Through four corresponding landscapes in the new city centre, the core values forming the origin of Kiruna is revealed. A folly, an unprogrammed structure erected to enhance a landscape and derived from the lada, is placed on each site functioning as a shelter and contextualising the intervention to the region of Northern Sweden. As architecture most often are physical obstacles built to orchestrate our lives, not allowing but limiting our behaviour, this proposal seeks to create free spaces in the city where not the architect but the people themselves can dictate what will happen. Who is the architect to decide whether someone should eat, make love or die in their structure?

Thevenon, Marie 23 November 2012 (has links) (PDF)

North Eros : the Temple of Love at Gennevilliers

Boyle, Catherine Sheryl. January 1999 (has links)
In 1750, the architect Giovanni Niccolo Servandoni built a Temple of Love in Gennevilliers, just north of Paris for the notorious libertine, the Duc de Richelieu. The new social freedom gained by the decline of the ancien regime gave birth to a democratic space that first appeared in the theatre and a personal freedom which changed the currents of thought on love. Servandoni's work as a painter, theatre designer and engineer of spectacles are promoted in the theory of Jacques-Francois Blondel and later Nicolas Le Camus de Mezieres as prime examples of architecture in their theories of sensation. Libertine love, read through the literature of the time, clearly understands the limit of sensation and the "terrible state/loss of freedom" produced by real love. By general consensus an agreement to operate within the realm of sensation governs the ethics of libertine love and architecture. Servandoni's Temple of Love provides an ironic statement on love in the eighteenth century.

Correia, Iara Toscano 08 March 2013 (has links)
Fundação de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado de Minas Gerais / The speeches assumed by modernity have been treating the popular culture themes as a political correctness showcase, capable of solve latent economic problems. Such speeches defend the increment of craft production, the viability of festivals and popular traditions and the folklore in general, as a way to meet the virtual touristic and market demand and, at the same time, promote the sustainable development of rural and urban communities. Reflecting about this interest in what is popular and marginal at the beginning of this century, we turn our eyes to the follies of kings microcosm at the mining town of Januária, on the banks of Rio San Francisco. We chose as basis of observation four distinct groups of kings: the Folia de Reis dos Figueiredos, the Folia de Reis do Alegre, the Folia de Reis do Zé Preto, and Terno de Reis dos Temerosos. Our starting point was the folkloric survey conducted by the National Campaign for Protection of Folklore, in 1961, for the city s centenary of the founding celebration. The study is structured into two analytical movements: first, from a diachronic perspective about the ritual, we identify the permanencies, ruptures and (re)significations occurred in the tradition of kings of this region; in the second moment, we reflect about the institutional appropriation of themes linked to the popular universe, as well as the creation of local folkloric fairs and festivals, and the interactions and tactics used by the kings suits to maintain their traditions in face of the growing interest in their practices at this passage millennium.
