Nilsson, Stefan, Janzon, Linnea January 2008 (has links)

Wretman, Maria January 2007 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to give a picture of how some adults, who earlier was placed in foster homecare, experience that their childhood have affected them during their life. I also wanted to see how the relationship to the biological family has been and developed during the placement. The study has also purposed to receive a deeper knowledge of how it could be to grow up in foster care. To make the purpose of this study complete I chose to use qualitative interviews as a research method. Four adults who earlier were placed in foster homecare have participated in this study. When I analyzed the results I also looked at earlier research, attachment theory and developmental ecology theory. One conclusion of the study was that the engagement the foster parents have reflects the quality and the future for the children. The foster parents must be able to win the children’s trust so they can attach and find a secured base to develop from. Finally the study showed that all of the interviewed people thought that it had been safe to grow up in a foster family and that they during their childhood saw their family as a “normal family”.

Att leva med bonussyskon : Om de biologiska barnens situation i familjehemmen / Living with bonussiblings : Biological children’s situation within their family’s work as a foster family

Dahlbom, Annie January 2013 (has links)
This essey "living with bonus siblings- Biological children’s situation within their family’s work as a foster family" have been written and executed by Annie Dahlbom. The purpose of this essay is to understand the biological situation within their family’s work as a foster family. How will the biological children react on their family’s mission? I want to gain knowledge about how these children’s participation takes place within the separate parts of their family’s work. Is there a need for shoring and help for foster homes own children according to their situation? The following questions have been asked to fulfill the purpose of this study: How do foster parents and professionals describe the biological children's participation and role? What experiences have biological children in the family's mission? Have biological children need support and help for their own part, and if so, how? This study is qualitative in nature and based on semi-structured interviews with professionals and foster parents. The results demonstrate that the biological children of the foster family have a significant role in the mission and is heavily involved in the daily care of the child is placed. The foster family’s own children have no involvement in meetings or in contact with social services. The experiences of serving as foster homes are both positive and negative character where lost time with parents as well as good and useful knowledge is examples of such. All respondents believe that some form of group activity would be a good forum for the biological children.

Fransson, Christian January 2013 (has links)
This study examines how foster parents and their families are affected by the foster care commitment. The study also examines how foster parents handle their own emotions, and what support they receive. A qualitative method was used where seven foster parents from four foster families were interviewed using a semi structured interview guide. The participant’s answers were analyzed through a theoretical approach that included system theory, coping theory, development ecology and theoretical concepts. The result shows that care commitment takes much time and energy, which affects everyday life, foster parents and their biological children in a number of ways. Foster parents experience that themselves and their own children received a new perspective on life. Foster parents experience difficulties around getting hold of the social services, and that social workers are being replaced during commitment. The encounter with the placed children and their network generates a lot of joy, but can also cause feelings of frustration and inadequacy. Foster parents are using various coping strategies to manage their own emotions that emerge related to the foster care commitment, the result also shows that both formal and informal support are important.

Netzel, Elisabeth January 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to gain knowledge and a picture of how foster parents perceive their task, the role of the placed children and their biological parents.  Even how they perceived their family have been affected by the mandates removal. Consistently showed the most positive experiences with strong ties to the children placed. However, there are experiences of the need for additional guidance, support, education and contact with the client to enhance a sense of competence in the task and prevent collapse. Burnout experienced often based in the placed child's difficulties in integration. That often grounded on the biological mother's lack of acceptance of the placement in the foster home. Aggression based on this lack of acceptance experienced by family homes to be something that the mother in the family home had to respond. By contrast, more children in the family home were something that the family home learns was positive and facilitated the integration of the placement. Furthermore, accountability of the role of foster parents experienced greater than accountability in the biological role of parents.

A document analysis between 1931 - 1940's

Carlsson, Jenny, Gustafsson, Rebecka January 2012 (has links)
This is a study about children’s welfare and the Child Care Board way of working in Malmö city. We decided to make this a narrative and document analyses where the main focus have been the interactions between human beings, which means everything from the interaction between parents and child as well as the interaction between families and society. We wanted to investigate any possible alterations within the working system between 1931–1940. Our analysis showed that there hasn’t been a big change with the Swedish legislation. There had however been a slight change in the reasons as to why parents and society got in touch with Social services and reported any mistreatment in the families. There were many people especially from the lower working class that couldn’t afford proper apartments or provide child care for their children. This was the main reason for them to apply to the Child Care Board. Many young single mothers who didn’t have any family to care for them applied to join their infants at the protective homes, this was a special home which was often used as a nursery if the children’s parents where at hospital or for some other reason couldn’t care for them. If Social services found the home situation as bad as to impede the Child development, the secure homes would be used as a safe place until a suitable foster home could be found. The closer we got to the 1940s we saw that the reasoning behind society applying to Social services where mostly illness within the family. Tuberculosis had Malmö in an iron fist and both adults and children got the dreaded disease. The World War II started in 1939 which also automatically forced the male population leave their homes, wives and children. This caused problems within the individual families. It meant that a lot of mothers now had to start working in order to support the rest of the family until their husbands returned home. For many of them the only way to survive during time was to allow the children to be taken into foster care.

The Effects of a Parent Training Course on Coercive Interactions Between Parents and Children

Powell, Lezlee 07 April 2006 (has links)
Coercion within parent/child relationships can have lasting effects on the behavior of children. The Family Safety/Applied Behavior Analysis Initiative at the University of South Florida is part of a statewide project designed to serve foster parents and the children in the foster care system, has developed a training program entitled .Parenting Tools for Positive Behavior Change.. To date, the effectiveness of the parenting course has been evaluated in two ways. First, parents have been tested in role-play situations before and after training, and have shown improvements in their use of positive parenting skills. Second, frequency of foster home placement disruptions has been evaluated. The Preliminary results suggest that the parenting course was successful in decreasing the costs associated with placement disruptions, as well as reducing the number decreasing the costs associated with placement disruptions, as well as reducing the number of restrictive placements. Despite the promising results thus far, research has not been conducted to determine whether the parenting course reduces coercion in interactions between parents and children. The present study sought to demonstrate the effectiveness of .Parenting Tools for Positive Behavior Change. training course on the use of positive parenting tools within the context of authentic environments (i.e., within home settings) using parents and biological children. Although all parent participants. appropriate responding improved during the course of the study, results appeared more dramatic for some parents over others. In general, the parent participants seemed to do better in decreasing coercive responses with their child.s appropriate behaviors than their child.s inappropriate behaviors. Overall, affect on the parent.s coercive responses to their children.s behaviors was not as dramatic as the affect on their increase in responding appropriately to their child.s appropriate behaviors. It seems that the increase in more appropriate responses does not necessarily mean that this will also result in dramatic reductions in coercive responses by the parents.
