Improvement Of Ataturk Street In Antalya As A Problem Of Spatial Continuity

Saydam, Oya 01 January 2006 (has links) (PDF)
ABSTRACT IMPROVEMENT OF ATAT&Uuml / RK STREET IN ANTALYA AS A PROBLEM OF SPATIAL CONTINUITY SAYDAM, Oya M.Arch., Department of Architecture Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Vacit MAMOGLU January 2006, 162 pages The city is a fundamental and universal human creation. It is a unique centre for social life as well as individual and collective fulfillment. However, cities have been shaped and reshaped by mere functionalistic, stylistic and materialistic aspects rather than developmental ones that incorporate social, cultural and environmental variables. The frantic, irreversible urban growth that societies throughout the world have experienced over the past few decades has caused a transformation of urban spaces and agglomerations, which rarely corresponds to expectations, and aspirations. Especially public spaces have played a key role within this transformation of the cities. In this context, conserving local public places, as a reminder of the past and an echo of the spirit of culture, is a matter of a great concern to reinstating identity and character. The thesis supports this argument by the case study of Atat&uuml / rk Street in Antalya, which suffers from disintegration and confusion because of haphazard growth, dense building, visual pollution, and degradation of the physical environment qualities. The thesis provides a detailed account of the project from initiation through problem identification, development of conceptual framework, and finally planning and architectural proposal. The case study highlights the need for a sensitive developmental approach, which harmonises the interactions between pedestrians, traffic and street furniture as well as cultural, physical environment and technical considerations. Within the scope of these criteria, the main objective of this thesis is to bring forth a project for designing new urban design components in historic context through the interpretation of objects of historical heritage and the existing qualities. Considering the critical problems affecting physical environment and causing imbalance in the lives of inhabitants in the city of Antalya, a project proposal is presented. The project has been prepared to provide solutions with simple and easy implementation, providing better harmony between man and his environment.

Conradie-Faul, Jacqueline 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--University of Stellenbosch, 2001. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to investigate man's use of the mollusk within selected art forms, and to use the research results to design a contemporary museum exhibition, relevant within a South African context. Two sections are presented. In section A the selected art forms, fine arts, architecture, furniture design, masks and music and other sound instruments are thoroughly investigated to determine in what way the mollusk/shell is used in or on these art forms. A large number of figures are included to illustrate the available examples, and to aid the reader in the visualization of these applications. In section B a design solution is presented, based on the research results of section A. The compilation of an exhibition team and the whole design process, from the choice of an exhibition theme to the evaluation of the exhibition, is investigated. The exhibition designer plays the important role of interpreting the research results and to compile a design solution. A wide variety of exhibition techniques are recommended for the design solution, including theatre productions, special lighting and sound effects, demonstrations and tours. A number of figures are included, where photos taken during the museum visitations and design sketches provide further insight into the design solution. From the research results it was noted that an educational subject such as the mollusk/shell, can be made timely and attractive for the museum visitor by the use of creative, contemporary and relative exhibition techniques.

Geldenhuys, Hugo Amos 12 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 1986.

A inovação tecnológica em arranjos produtivos locais: a indústria de móveis retilíneos residenciais de Bento Gonçalves (RS) / The technological innovation in local productive arrangements: the residential rectilineal furniture industry of Bento Gonçalves (RS)

Sonaglio, Claudia Maria 13 February 2006 (has links)
The fast changes of the last 20 years, with prominence the ascension of the technologies of information and communication, radically transformed products, processes, uses and people's life. These facts, together with the commercial and financial liberalization promoted a new managerial conformation. It has been understood that the innovations, especially the technological ones, are motors of the competition and of the industrial development. That demands great production flexibility from the companies, to be capable to compete and to stay in this dynamic process. The answer of the companies to the new competitive conformations has been given through innovations of products, processes and organization. However, for these incorporations the companies should possess competences to use the technologies and the available knowledge. On the other hand, the amounts of necessary resources, human and financial, are not always available. This way, the companies have been taken advantage of collaborative strategies to join competences that they still don't possess. The performance in productive arrangements with interactive performances facilitatates the diffusion and generation of innovations, since the local proximity and the common culture allow the transmission and change of knowledge. In this sense, we have searched for an answer, through an exploratory and descriptive method, for the diffusion and the generation of technological innovations in the industry of pieces of residential rectilinear furniture, contemplating the interactions between the companies and the institutions linked to the industry in productive arrangement. It was verified that companies and institutions have been demanding efforts concerning the technological innovation of the industry of pieces of rectilinear furniture residences of Bento Gonçalves (RS). The interactive performance in the environment of the productive arrangement permits a healthy atmosphere for the diffusion and the use of the new knowledge obtained from several sources, especially, through the participation in regional events, and also through national and international research actions and development. The results of this study contributes to detach the importance of the external atmosphere in the diffusion and in the generation of technological innovations, and the recognition of the companies to the advantages associated to the location in the area, to the existent partnerships among the agents and to the innovations adopted in the period.

Lis Rodrigues Uliana 07 December 2005 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to identify the residues generation in certified and noncertified wooden furniture production aiming the availability of subsidies for decision making in relation to the company’s environment management and economics. This case study was conducted in a furniture industry located in the city of Praia Grande-SP, which represents its industry sector on using not just certified exotic species but certified native wood as raw material. The efficiency on production was evaluated for two types of chairs produced with certified wood of sucupira and non-certified wood of sucupira. The generated types of residues, factors, and the critical points of generation were identified. The method of linear programming was applied to the development of two scenes by considering both the profit maximization and the residues generation minimization. Significant differences were found for the results related to wooden type, chair model, and the interaction between types of wood/model of chair. The smallest residue generation was obtained on the processing of non-certified wood, in the model with arm (Product 3). The linear programming tool for scene 1 (profit maximization) delivered a monthly income of R$ 22,209.16 (USS 8,444.55) for the production of 24 chairs made up with certified wood of the brand Ethos model with arm (Product 1); 36 chairs made up with certified wood of the brand Ethos model without arm (Product 2); 24 chairs made up with non-certified wood of the brand Ethos model with arm (Product 3); and 28 chairs made up with non-certified wood of the brand Ethos model without arm (Product 4). The scene 2 (residues generation minimization) output was a monthly generation of 1,52 m3 of residues, with the production of 24 parts of Product 1, 21 parts of the Product 2, and 22 parts of Product 3. Considering the current situation, is impracticable for the company only certified wood production of furniture. To make it feasible, some fundamental actions are needed: bigger offers of certified wood for a smaller price; quality improvement of certified raw material and application on part of the company of acquisition quality criteria control; development of products considering the characteristics and properties of the wood, reducing the residues generation; investment in man power qualification and equipment.

ESTUDO DE MOBILIÁRIO ESCOLAR: UM OLHAR PARA A SALA DE AUL A ATRAVÉS DA MODELAGEM MATEMÁTICA / A LOOK FOR THE CLASSROOM: SCHOOL FURNITURE THROUGH MATHEMATICAL MODELING

Hahn, Cristiane 02 September 2016 (has links)
Mathematical modeling is seen in this paper as a strategy to combine the teaching and learning of mathematics with real problems of a technical course in furniture. Our goal was to enable students in 1st year study the theme Furniture School's Manufacturing for children's through modeling. We developed a teaching sequence that seeks to math topics present in the school's furniture manufacturing, since the furniture design until the manufacturing cost calculation, part of teaching sequence was applied with volunteer students. Analyzing the manufacturing of school's table considering mathematical view, the student is easily led to the field of geometry and algebra. During the process, retook concepts present in the technical course practices such as the scale rule use, and present in high school math discipline, as surfaces and perimeters, increasing the understanding of the meaning of these. In addition, the experiment showed the need of mathematical content for the involved, in a situation of future professional practice from them.

Understanding the Management Control System Used by Hybrid Companies : A Case Study of IKEA and MIO.

Chaussée, Laury, Foray, Marine January 2018 (has links)
Due to the globalization, companies have to review their strategy permanently. In the same way, they need to choose the right management control system which will be in line with their strategy. Recent research has been made and it was highlighted that new strategies have been created to face up to the globalization and stay competitive. One of the new strategies is called “hybrid strategy”. It consists of combining the low-cost competitive advantage with the differentiation competitive advantage. By doing that, a company differentiates itself from its competitors with a special feature and, by the same time, has the lowest cost in its market. This new strategy came after the three generic strategies from Porter, which explains that a company needs to choose a competitive advantage if it wants to be profitable. The competitive advantages are either low-cost or differentiation. Most of the research made about the hybrid strategy was about the efficiency of this strategy. A very few research was made about the management of companies using the hybrid strategy. This is why in this paper, we would like to understand what kind of management control companies using this strategy have, more particularly do they use more a tight or a loose control. We also are looking at what kind of objectives companies using hybrid strategies have. If it is more a short-term or a long- term perspective and if it is more focused on monetary goals or non-monetary goals. For that, we compared the management control implemented in a hybrid company with the management controlled implemented in a low-cost company in Sweden. Four interviews were made at IKEA and MIO, which are two Swedish furniture companies in Sweden. To be able to draw a conclusion, we choose one hybrid company and one pure company to compare them. IKEA is the company using the hybrid strategy. These interviews gave us a lot of information to better understand the type of management control both companies have implemented. Then, the data were analyzed and discussed in order to highlight a potential conclusion. The gathered data suggest that hybrid companies and companies using a low-cost strategy have approximately the same management control system which is more tight control. About the objectives, both companies have the same. Indeed, IKEA and MIO have monetary goals and are more short-term goals oriented, at least for the lower level management. However, there are some differences that we can noticed. The first thing is that MIO uses more the informal control than IKEA. The second thing is that IKEA is more concerned by its employees. To conclude, even if IKEA and MIO are using two different strategies, they are very similar when looking to their management control.

Gobbi, Manlio Maria January 2011 (has links)
The project, described below in all its particulars to assess the possibility of developing a product that actually had a promising impact in the decades of 70/80/90. This is all history from the birth of the idea until its market presence, product MaGnalínea and MaGnaspazio, which eventually became the head of the company cars Manlio Gobbi & Cia Ltda. The company went on to become the market leader in Rio Grande do Sul Design mercy of differentiated products and the seriousness of the marketing policy, because it was an honest product, transparent and an unusual modulation, which had achieved the elimination of the superfluous, in a completely new concept for the area of office furniture, a concept that fully pleased its users, becoming a true icon. The project is made a thorough examination of the specific scenario and even political season, it is shown how it emerged and developed the innovative ideas that have transformed the company into a real core of innovation, because the working group was categorized and highly enthusiastic about the positive impact of their work. It covers also the historical reality of the furniture area, as well as a variety of concepts that helped in achieving the project.
