Lady Almoners - kuratorer inom hälso- och sjukvården: socialarbetare i en medicinsk kontext : En kvalitativ studie om socialt arbete på ett sjukhus / The Lady Almoners - social workers in medical health care : A quality study about social work in medical health care

Sjöberg, Nina January 2022 (has links)
The aim of this study is to increase the knowledge about social workers in medical health care and their own experiences and challenges of working in a medical environment. Social workers offer important contributions to the medical settings. Their social and behavioral perspective broadens the possibilities to help the patients in more complex ways than the medical focus can offer. In 2014, as many as 10 percent of all social workers in Sweden were hired as medical and health care counselors. Despite the fact that social work in medical health care can be compared to other social work, there are important differences between the two. The work environment of social workers/counselors in medical health care is primarily focused on physical diseases. Also, the social workers in medical health care are bound to other jurisdiction than just social law. My study also aims to examine if the decision to certify the profession of counselors in medical health care, starting in July 1 2019, or other relevant further education in any ways affect the counselors’ experiences of working in medical health care. Both practically and for the professional identity, personally and as social workers as a group. This study shows that counselors in medical health care are well educated as a professional group having agency to form their own working practices. At the same time, agency seems to contribute to difficulties when defining their professional roles. When dealing with medical patients, the responsibility to create cooperation with other professions often seems to lie on the counselors. According to the results of this study the routines regarding cooperation between professions in a medical hospital are far from distinct. In conclusion, the profession of counselor needs strengthening and defining, perhaps particularly so within the medical context. Swedish medical health care shows a strong organization characterized both by hierarchies and a variety of legitimacies in performing different tasks. The psychosocial contributions of the counselor often seem sidelined despite the important implications for the patient’s well-being. At this point, the medical health care certificate for counselors doesn’t seem to have strengthened the profession to any significant degree. According to this study, it is rather another form of further education which has made the greater contributions to the profession.

The professional develoment of lecturers at further education and training colleges in the Eastern Cape Province / The professional development of lecturers at further education and training colleges in the Eastern Cape Province

Matshaya, Kulana 06 1900 (has links)
The study focused on professional development of lecturers at Further Education and Training (FET) Colleges in the Eastern Cape Province. The effectiveness of lecturers at FET colleges depends on continuous development in order to meet challenges that they face due to continuous changes in technology and curriculum. Also, the development of the lecturers has a positive effect on their teaching with the result that both the students and the wider institution benefit from it. The literature reviewed revealed the effects, types, theories and nature of professional development. A qualitative research approach in the form of document analysis, interviews and observations was used in order to explore the implementation and/or lack thereof of professional development and its effects in teaching and learning within the institution. It is hoped that the qualitative study and the literature review will contribute to the implementation of professional development for the benefit of students and the college. Different strategies for the implementation of professional development were recommended that could further enhance the introduction of professional development in FET colleges. / Educational Leadership and Management / M. Genderová analýza učebnic "Občanské výchovy" (ve vztahu k povolání) / Gender analysis of Civics textbooks (in relation to choice of profession)

Lojková, Hana January 2014 (has links)
The goal of this master's thesis "Gender analysis of textbooks" (in relation to choice of profession) is to introduce a gender analysis of three textbooks "Civics Education" used in the 8th grade of primary schools. I focus on presence of gender stereotypes and gender prejudice that could influence a choice of further education of schoolboys and schoolgirls and therefore their choice of future profession. In the thesis I consider the general education system as one of the crucial socialization tool of the society. It represents an institution that keeps power to maintain gender stereotypes and at the same time has got the power to change them. I examine illustrations and texts of mentioned textbooks through gender optics, and using qualitative and quantitative analysis.

Lernformate und -ressourcen in der hochschulischen Weiterbildung - Einbindung und zukünftige Bedeutung

Häßlich, Linda 10 March 2022 (has links)

An exploration of the handling of grammatical structures by Limpopo Province EFAL teachers in FET Phase

Mashiane, Mmetlane Valery January 2019 (has links)
Thesis (M. A. (English Studies)) -- University of Limpopo, 2019 / This study explores the handling of grammatical structures by the Limpopo Province (LP) English First Additional Language (EFAL) teachers in the Further Education and Training (FET) phase. The problem is that the majority of English language learners’ language proficiency and accuracy are not at an acceptable level. This problem also brings into close scrutiny, the quality of teaching and learning that takes place in English language classrooms, and in particular, the effectiveness of teaching grammar structures in EFAL. The research design was exploratory and the approach was qualitative. A selected number of EFAL FET grammar teachers and English Language Curriculum Advisors (ELCAs) in the LP participated in the study. The study was underpinned by an integration of Behaviourism, Mentalism, Cognitive, and Universal Grammar theories. The study findings indicate some learner language interlanguage and grammar permeability, as well as inadequate handling of grammar knowledge and grammar learning assessment.

The development of historical consciousness in the teaching of history in South African schools

Mazabow, Gerald 30 November 2003 (has links)
The advent of democracy in South Africa necessitated a radical transformation in education. It was recognised from the outset that the revision of History education was an activity that had to be accorded special consideration if the renaissance of education in South African public schools was to become a reality. Yet, precisely at a time when the nurturing of historical consciousness, especially among the youth, is so urgent an undertaking, the subject History is increasingly being judged as lacking in utilitarian purpose, and is deemed irrelevant and meaningless. A strong need is thus felt among History educationists to strengthen History studies because of its importance not only in itself but also because a knowledge of the past is crucial to an understanding of the present. In a South African educational context this thesis attempts to make a contribution to this worthwhile endeavour. It investigates the nature, functions, changing modes and historical role of historical consciousness in the writing and teaching of History in South Africa; proposes a heightened interest in adopting an outcomes-based approach to the teaching of history; and advocates an historical consciousness approach to the teaching of History to learners in the Further Education and Training phase (schools), within the framework of the above-mentioned Outcomes-based Education system. It recommends, among others, the training and retraining of teachers in the historical consciousness approach; the adoption of a fresh methodology; and the revamping and strengthening of the content and scope of the present curriculum to accommodate the new historical consciousness approach. The thesis concludes with a set of recommendations which could serve as a basis for the nurturing of historical consciousness in the South African History classroom. / Educational Studies / D.Ed. Inclusion of environmental education in the teaching of the Biology curriculum for grades 10 to 12

De Jager, Elizabeth Jacoba 30 November 2003 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to develop a Life Sciences programme, integrating Environmental Education, on environmental endocrine disruptors, for the Further Education and Training Phase of the Outcomes Based Educational System. This programme aims at giving learners the necessary knowledge and skills to limit their exposure to Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs). The programme was evaluated by means of a quantitative study. Group-administered questionnaires were used to gather information before and after the programme had commenced. Lickert scales were used to establish the learners' knowledge, attitudes and values in connection with EDCs and the environment before and after the learners had followed the programme on EDCs. The results of the study indicated that the programme proved to be successful in increasing the knowledge of the target group in connection with EDCs. This study will contribute to the process of integrating Environmental Education in the Life Sciences curriculum. / Educational Studies / M.Ed.(Environmental Education)

Towards a leadership model for the effective management of further education and training colleges in the Gauteng province

Mohlokoane, Mokatsane Jakamene Stephen 30 June 2004 (has links)
This thesis is a study of a leadership model for the effective management of Further Education and Training (FET) colleges in the Gauteng Province. This research was triggered by the need for quality and sound leadership skills highly needed in FET colleges. The vision of FET colleges lies at the heart of the integration of the country's education and training system. Leadership is the distinguishing factor in bringing about organisational transformation. A key contemporary issue in the development of a high quality education service relates to the new thinking about how best to pursue quality and excellence in FET colleges. Leadership, strategic planning and the need for alternative models of management lead, inevitably, towards a reconsideration of both staff competencies and continuing staff and organisational development. This research seeks to assist those who have the responsibility of leading and managing the further conceptualisation and implementation of further education and training. A qualitative research was conducted, in which a newly merged college in Pretoria was chosen as a case study for this research. The following constituted the broad aims of this study:  To examine the leadership strategies that should be employed for effective management of FET colleges;  To investigate the vision and mission development and implementation and the organisational structures established;  To determine the opportunities and challenges offered by the new large and multi-sited college; and  To investigate a leadership model for the effective management of FET colleges. Semi-structured individual interviews were conducted with the leadership of the college ranging from the senior managers, campus managers, middle managers to educators. Analysis of documents and observation notes was also done to supply more data about FET leadership. Data were analysed and interpreted by identifying themes and categories that would shed more light into the effective leadership of the college. The following recommendations were made:  A new approach to the leadership of the college should be adopted;  The leadership of the college should be more accountable and responsive to community needs;  More financial support should be allocated to FET colleges; and  More focus should be given to learner support. / Educational Studies / D.Ed. An investigation into the factors affecting job satisfaction at the KwaZulu Natal Further Education and Training College - Swinton Campus

Maniram, R., (Rekha) 31 December 2007 (has links)
The purpose of this research was to investigate the factors affecting job satisfaction at the Coastal Kwa Zulu Natal (KZN) Further Education and Training (FET) COLLEGE - SWINTON CAMPUS in order to determine the factors that lead to job satisfaction and job dissatisfaction, to measure these factors and to present findings and make recommendations to management and the Department of Education in order to promote and improve job satisfaction at the college. The data was collected and administered by means of a structured questionnaire based on the Minnesota Job Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ). It was discovered that most of the academic staff draw their job satisfaction from having a positive working relationship with management, their relationships with their peers, their training needs and the training provided from the college, and the condition of their staff room. It was found that educators mostly derive their job dissatisfaction from the absence of recognition for work done, remuneration and the benefits that they receive, company policies and practices, achievement and advancement, feedback and communication, the ability to work independently and creatively and the general working conditions of the college. It was found that staff was generally dissatisfied with their jobs. / Management Sciences / M.Tech. (Business Administration)

Career aspirations of female engineering students at an FET institution

Foster, Vuyiswa Xoliswa Nontuthuzelo 30 November 2005 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to describe factors that influence black females to choose engineering as a career. It transpired from the literature study that enabling environment, gender of role models, self-efficacy and socialization are important factors in terms of causing and attracting females into the fields of science and engineering study. From the empirical study it came out clearly that family members, female role members, and confidence in mathematics and science were factors that caused the females in engineering group to choose it as a career. Findings also revealed that gender stereotypes did not deter them from choosing engineering and that they were content with their career choice. For the above factors to be addressed incentives exclusive to females should be launched by government so as to attract more females to the fields of science and engineering. Schools also need to pursue programmes that expose learners to these fields. / Educational Studies / M. Ed.
