Erosão dos valores literários, \"tentação à ação\" e sistematização do método (1925-1957) / Pierre Monbeig and the formation of the Brazilian Geography: a science in the context of late capitalism. Erosion of literary values, temptation to action and systematization of the method (1925-1957)

Lira, Larissa Alves de 30 January 2017 (has links)
This thesis aims at investigating the emergence of a Brazilian school of Geography whose foundation was built by the French geographer Pierre Monbeig. His years studying at Sorbonne, his yeas spent in Brazil, and even the year in which he published his first contributions on this country (1925-1957) define the period in which Brazilian geography came to be, under his leadership; this was, at the same time, a material and a symbolic process. This research used a geohistory of knowledge that analyses the spheres of slowness, circulation, and ruptures to study a trajectory that is influenced by deep movements of the constitution of the sciences, as well as circumstances of the sciences that eclipse the long-lasting tendencies in the first half of the twentieth century. These long-lasting movements are characterized here as: erosion of literary values, which dominated French sciences in the end of the nineteenth century; temptation to action and engagement, in the form of a tendency towards a growing application of sciences; and a progressive clarification of the scientific method. In face of the situation and of Brazil-specific determinisms, the formation of the national State, the crises of oligarchies, and the advancement of late capitalism, the answers of a science in context of recovering its inheritances, but also of displacement, to these trends are singular and the transformations that Pierre Monbeig\'s geography goes through in this space are institutional, theoretical and temporally specific to that time. Thereby, Monbeig elaborates reasonings that, without denying latent heritage and tension, are direct results of understanding geographical processes of modernization and of the spacial logic of underdevelopment in territories in process of colonization, and by indirect results of a geographical theory adapted to the conditions of Brazilian capitalism, which we denominate a geohistory of the peripheral capitalism based on systemic reasoning. Finally, it is important to point out that these epistemological contributions were not announced as a break with the French geography the author adopts; they constitute, to the humanities, a critical source of information for Geography as it was developed in Brazil, which gets little recognition in historiographic debates.

Trois études de cas en milieu rural italien / Murals as a survival strategy of rural communities. Three case studies in rural Italian environment

Giancaspero, Laura 21 December 2018 (has links)
This thesis is focused on Italian mural paintings in rural environments. Through three case studies, it analyses artistic phenomenon as an expression of  the ecological relationship between the local community and their environment. The study of this phenomenon, conducted by combining the geohistorical approach with American ecocriticism, reveals that these murals represent a response to the many fractures: territorial, identity and ecological, which have occurred in this rural area during contemporary times. All these changes, therefore, broke the centuries-old relationships that local communities maintained with their territory by threatening their own existence. This is a common phenomenon in Italy that has resulted in the abandonment of many rural villages. In the case of the three villages analyzed, the local population employed the mural art in order to reclaim their place and to redefine the relationship with their environment, which finally affirmed the survival of these small communities.

Géohistoire de Toulouse et des villes de parlement (vers 1680 - vers 1830) : des centres administratifs et judiciaires d'Ancien Régime et leur redéfinition après la révolution / Geohistory of Toulouse and parliamentary cities (1680 - 1830) : administrative and judicial centers of the Old Regime and their redefinition after the Revolution

Marqué, Nicolas 01 December 2015 (has links)
In 1790, Toulouse authorities thought that when the French Revolution had suppressed all the Parliaments in the kingdom, they had also destroyed the parliamentary cities. Indeed, there were almost no industrial, commercial or other important economic activities in these administrative and judicial centers. Despite these suppressions, Besançon, Dijon, Douai, Grenoble, Metz, Pau, Rennes and Toulouse were already larger and more populous at the end of the first third of the 19th Century than they were in 1789. Aix-en-Provence was the only one which still suffered from the revolutionary crisis. Some new urban functions took the place of the magistrates and the churchmen. It took only a few decades to redefine the former parliamentary cities. In order to understand this phenomenon and its consequences on the urban spaces of the past we will use some geographical perspectives: we will use a geo-historical method. We will mainly focus on the case of Toulouse thanks to the Geographical Information System (G.I.S.) of this town: Urban-Hist. This tool provides much useful information which can help us understand the changes in the former capital of Languedoc. Were these changes specific to Toulouse or were they representative of the group of continental parliamentary cities before, during and after the French Revolution?

A Geopolítica e a formação territorial do sul do Brasil

Muradás, Jones January 2008 (has links)
Razões econômicas e ações militares integradas à iniciativas públicas e privadas serviram aos objetivos geopolíticos fundamentais a expansão e organização do espaço do sul do Brasil. / This study treaties about the formation, territorial conquest and establishment of international limits in southern Brazil. During this procedure is revealed the connection between territorial occupation and the geopolitical moves promoted by Portuguese-Brazilians. These treaties between Portugal and Spain are analyzed, as well as the role developed by "bandeirantes", "tropeiros", immigrants, estancieiros, smugglers, gauchos and other actors in the exploration and occupation of territory, each one in their historical moment. Economic reasons and military actions integrated to public and private initiatives served as important geopolitical objectives that were fundamental to the expansion and space's organization of southern Brazil. It is shown in this study that all the actions by Portuguese-Brazilians in the southern Brazil's scenario are explained by geopolitical ideas, always involving all the actors mentioned above that, in one way or another, worked in the construction of this territory.

Le Paraná argentin, un fleuve du Nouveau Monde / The argentinan Paraná, a New World river

Forget, Marie 23 November 2011 (has links)
The argentinian Paraná is the fifth river of the world by the size of its watershed, its tenth and its flow. It also is a river of paradoxes: it is an essential axis but has been abandoned; it is immense but unknown outside the countries which it crosses; it represents an environmental wealth which isn’t protected; and finaly is gigantic but very poorely used. With the 3.2 million km ² of its watershed , and an average flow which reaches 18 000 m3/s at its mouth it can be considered as a megariver. The theme of big rivers is nowadays quite fashionable in the scientific literature, but the research is separated between physical and human geography. It then seems necessary to reconcile both approaches around new concepts. In 2008, E. Latrubesse proposed the concept of megariver. This concept finds its equivalent in the reflections found in the human geography. The objective of this thesis is to propose an extension of the concept of megariver to the human geography. Few transversal approaches are led on the Paraná river and links between sectors, services and actors are fragile. The big projects such as the fluvial higway called Hidrovia Paraná-Paraguay or the big hydroelectric dams, allow to link different fields of expertise and to cross the vision of diferent actors. As a fact, the river carries more and more socio-economic issues which can only be approached with an integrated vision, joining social, environmental and economical questions. The issue is aslo situated in the relations between local, national and supranational scales, which leads to territorial reorganizations. These networks of geographical scales allow to build new cooperations inbetween all the actors and lead to an integrated managment of the Parana river.

Hospitalisations de patients en Bourgogne et dans neuf autres régions métropolitaines, analyse territoriale des flux interrégionaux à partir de la base nationale du PMSI-MCO / Hospitalizations of patients in Burgundy and in nine other french regions, spatial analysis of interregional flows from french hospital claims data

Roussot, Adrien 11 December 2015 (has links)
Introduction / presentation of the context : The creation of ARS (Regional Healthcare Agencies) was accompanied by the regionalized organization of healthcare. Even though the administrative procedures for dividing the country into areas for healthcare coverage are well known, we propose a geographic analysis of the reasons why patients attend one hospital rather than another, which seem to escape the logic used by the authorities. Methods employed and sources of data : Using the PMSI-MCO, we studied the flow of patients living in one region to hospitals in other regions according to ten reasons for visiting hospitals. The analysis was completed by a cartographic analysis, which related the flow to different geographical and historical divisions in Burgundy and in nine other test regions.Main results : The cartography of hospital flow in Burgundy and for each test region showed that the choices made by patients were often coherent with regard to the limits that we used. Our results indicate that regional administrative boundaries do not always create homogeneous territories. For each test region, invisible boundaries appear. They stem from historical sedimentation and were shaped by numerous geographic dynamics.Discussion/ConclusionGeography makes it easier to understand hospital flow, which escapes the logic of current regional administrative planning. Now, with the creation of new super-regions, geography appears to be an essential tool to establish more pragmatic healthcare coverage.

Géohistoire du risque d'avalanche dans le Massif vosgien : Réalité spatio-temporelle, cultures et représentations d'un risque méconnu / Geohistory of the Avalanche Risk in the Vosges Range : Spatial and temporal Reality, Cultures and Representations of an ignored Risk

Giacona, Florie 04 September 2014 (has links)
In spite of regular accidents, the medium-high mountain doesn’t seem to play a major role in the study of avalanche. Therefore, the main goal of this thesis is to emphasize the reality of the avalanche risk in the Vosges Mountains by an interdisciplinary approach. Considering risk itself as a social construction, we suggest to study at first the cultures of avalanche risk and then pursue with its material reality (diachronic approach, spatialization, risk occurrence and conditions of emergence). So as to establish if the different protagonists involved in the process of risk construction recognize and appropriate the avalanche risk, we have analyzed the statements of the persons in charge of those events and conducted two different surveys (inductive interviews and a questionnaire). In the end, there is a lack of knowledge and collective memory, and the risk of avalanche seems not to be considered and identified as a real problem. At the very best, it is pointed out as an occasional and localized danger, to which people do not really feel vulnerable. At the same time, through a geo-historical approach, we studied the spatial and temporal distribution of avalanches over the last two centuries and tried to identify the natural and social factors interacting in the risk production system. It appears that, if knowledge concerning avalanches is based on historical sources, their dynamic is strongly conditioned by past and current human activities. Despite the frequency of avalanches, this risk does not appear as a fundamental element of the mountain cultures in the Vosges range and requires measures to draw the attention of people and inform them about it.
