Strategiarbete och legitimitetens påverkan : En fallstudie hos Greenpeace

Jakobsson, Birgitta, Nitz, Cajsa January 2015 (has links)
When an organization is doing strategic planning, it should take into consideration the different perspectives within the planning process, as well as the various methods available to construct a strategy. Research by Mintzberg and Waters shows that strategy planning ranges on a scale of completely deliberate to completely emergent. Deliberate strategies are well thought out and well planned in order to reach a specific goal. From the beginning of the process, there is no doubt what the desired outcome is and everyone in the organization shares the same goal. Emergent strategies are the opposite of deliberate strategies. With an emergent strategy, the strategy develops over time and actions are taken without an end goal in mind. The strategies and campaigns used by Greenpeace are known across the world and the organization's relatively bold way of pursuing its goals is presumed to require a certain measure of legitimacy to succeed. The purpose of this study is to determine if Greenpeace is working using deliberate or emergent strategies, as well as what role the legitimacy of the organization plays in the development of those strategies. The study has been conducted by doing a qualitative case study of Greenpeace. Two respondents from the head office in Stockholm were interviewed and data from a documentary and several campaigns were analyzed.

A study of Greenpeace's strategy action in China and Indonesia

Chien, Shao-yi 02 August 2010 (has links)
Adopting ¡§Radical Actions¡¨ is the impression which Greenpeace gives to the outside world, and they are skilled at that way. When facing difference of culture, history, political, economic and society, what actions would this organization comes from west society take? China and Indonesia are the 1st the 3rd Greenhouse gases country, so this article puts them together to understand how Greenpeace faces different external environment and how it engages the environment campaign. This article figures that Greenpeace will hire local environmentalists; in China, Greenpeace is submissive to the authority, and it not only helps China become a renewable energy power, but push environmental laws and citizen environmental education. In Indonesia, Greenpeace respects local traditional culture, customs and provides the way to solve problems. It also contains its radical image to get the media attention, encouraging citizen to learn Greenpeace¡¦s actions. Because of different society situation, Greenpeace uses different methods between China and Indonesia, we can realize that not only radical actions Greenpeace takes, but adjusting their solution according to different surroundings.

The corpus was the editorials designed to promote each of its action front: Amazon, Climate and Energy, Nuclear, Ocean and Transgenic. The amount of five editorials were collected on April 18, 2010. In the social context, this NGO is inserted into a conflict between natural resources conservation and industrial and economic development. Furthermore, a change in the paradigms and values of social relations due to technological advances, and the emergence of cyberspace. The aim therefore is to understand how the relation between of the actions of Greenpeace and the imaginary hero benefits joining the cyber activism. For that we use a discourse analysis of the French line as theoretical and methodological, axis, including as main thinkers Patrick Charaudeau and Dominique Maingueneau, whose ideas have helped to examine how language is used in these editorials, studying its context, resulting in ideological discourse pervaded by the hero s imagery. The study revealed that the discursive techniques used in the editorials helped to create the ethos of the hero, the villain and the girl and that these elements appreciate the actions of Greenpeace to a heroic level.

Ativismo na rede: informação, organização e espetáculo / Activism at net: information, organization and spectacle

Emilene de Oliveira Campos 26 June 2006 (has links)
The topic of this dissertation is the relation between the Internets potential of communication and its use by the organized civil society. In order to study an aspect of the relationship between the Internet and the civil society, it was selected the non governmental organization Greenpeace, founded at Canada, in 1971, which hold offices in Brazil since 1992. The general purpose of this dissertation is to investigate like is o activism of Greenpeace by the Internet, specially by the website Brazil Greenpeace (www.greenpeace.org.br)
