Värmeavledning Vapenpipa : Utvärdering av luftkylningskoncept / Heat dissipation Gun barrel : Evaluation of heat dissipation concepts in gun barrelsElfberg, Per January 2019 (has links)
A gun barrels performance can only be considered satisfactory provided there is sufficient heat-dissipation, thus not hindering the tactical use of the unit and the weapon itself. The added energy to the barrel can potentially permanently change the material structure of the steel and create a hazard. The thesis evaluates air cooling concepts relative to a barrel blank to assess its ability to handle heat flow and heat flux. The concepts have been designed in such a way that the ergonomic and practical weight limitations of a soldier have been taken into account. The results will provide a basis for future product development. The scientific work was limited to the section of the barrel nearest to the bore where the majority of the heat will be concentrated, hence that section with the biggest need for heat dissipation. For this to be done an assumption was made that the heat can only dissipate radially. The metal in this short section of the barrel is assumed to be heated equally along the barrel axis relative to the surrounding sections. The thesis was divided in two parts, a literature study and one with a deductive approach, where the research resulted in calculations in an iterative process. The calculations determined the cooling and heating time for each concept. Finally, the heat flow in and out was calculated.Based on the information that the calculations provided, a comparison could be done and an assessment for each concept to be a potential solution if it were to be applied in a sustained fire role. The conclusion was that an air cooled concept could never provide the heat flux needed to sufficiently cool a barrel in a sustained fire role due to all the thermal energy added for each shot fired. The composite concept that was evaluated has great potential in a lightweight weapon system. It provides quadruple cooling capability with no additional weight. It also has good potential for future development of the concept.

“Som vilken annan dag som helst” : En kvalitativ intervjustudie om hur unga vuxna uppfattar och hanterar ökningen av detdödliga gängkriminella skjutvapenvåldetLindberg, Felicia, Seth, Moa January 2024 (has links)
In recent years, lethal gang-related gun violence has increased in Sweden. The aim of this study is to investigate how young adults perceive and manage risks in society. Additionally, the study aims to investigate the media's influence on young adults' awareness of risks, with focus on the increased deadly gang-related gun violence. Since gang-shootings are a relatively new risk in Sweden, there is a lack of previous research on the subject and it is therefore relevant to research further, from a risk sociology perspective. Previous research therefore contains studies that investigate other social contexts than young adults in Sweden. The study's theoretical frame of reference is based on Gidden's (1996) theory of the consequences of modernity, Beck's (2000) theory of the risk society, Douglas' (2002) "subjective immunity" and Kaspersons et al. (1988) theory about social amplification of risk. This study uses qualitative interviews to investigate unique and in-depth stories from a limited number of individuals. The result shows that individuals do not seem to be afraid of being exposed to the risk themselves but are concerned that others may be exposed to it. The results display that expert knowledge from politicians is needed, however, young adults lack full confidence in politicians. The individuals in this study are overwhelmed by the information that the media spreads about the risk. Furthermore, the individuals perceive the risks as less dangerous than they appear in the media. Young adults also felt that gang-related gun violence affected them more if they were geographically close to the events.

Gun violence among criminal networks : A quantitative analysis of Swedish police officers’ perceptions on crime prevention workWest, Emma January 2022 (has links)
Purpose This study amied to explore how police officers perceived the crime prevention efforts taken against gun violence in Sweden. Of particularly interest was to examine how certain efforts were perceived by the police officers, to be more or less effective when it comes to prevent gun violence from occurring among criminal networks. In this study, I explored which perceived effect certain efforts included under the working methods of community policing and problem-oriented policing had, as well as other efforts undertaken by law enforcement. Method Police officers who either worked in Gothenburg or Malmö city were targeted by the study. In sum, I received responses from 99 participants, in an on-line based questionnaire. The participants were selected through convenience sampling. Descriptive statistics are offered, and bivariate analyses were employed to identify officers’ perception differences of policing efficacy in vulnerable areas compared to non-vulnerable areas, and efficacy of law enforcement. Results The analyzes in the study, showed that the police officers overall perceived that the method of community policing to be crime preventive. This was especially the case for the vulnerable areas and in relation to the effort of an increased local police presence. As for the other method, problem-oriented policing, the officers particularly perceived that the effort of secret data eavesdropping to have the strongest crime prevention effect in both areas. The effort was also perceived to have more of an effect then both efforts included under community policing. As for hot spot policing, the other effort included under problem-oriented policing, the effort was overall perceived to have less of an effect among the officers. This was the cases for both areas. As for the importance to particularly prevent criminal networks possessions and sales of illegal drugs and weapons, community policing and problem-oriented policing were not perceived to be effective enough. As for the effect of the efforts undertaken by the law enforcement, a tougher approach against crime was among the police officers perceived to have the most effect. Conclusion The results of the study show that there is a continued increased need for evaluations of crime prevention efforts. The study also showed that there is an increased need that we as researchers, needs to further collaborate with the police force in order to further develop the craft of policing. /
2022-09-16

Violent delinquency in America the determinants of carrying firearms among juveniles: a theoretical comparative analysisWallace, Douglas Scott Larson January 1900 (has links)
Doctor of Philosophy / Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work / W. Richard Goe / This study examined three of the prominent theories of juvenile delinquency to determine principle juvenile firearm carrying behaviors. The theories investigated were Differential Association/Social Learning, Social Control, and Anomie/Strain. The data set used for this research was the “National Survey of Weapons-Related Experiences, Behaviors, and Concerns of High School Youth in the United States, 1996” from the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research at the University of Michigan. This national-level survey of youth was conducted by Joseph F. Sheley and James D. Wright to assemble detailed behavioral and attitudinal data concerning weapons and violence, and was completed by 733 10th and 11th grade male high school students. Comparison logistic regression model analyses were utilized to examine the study’s hypotheses. Findings indicated that juvenile firearms carrying is most influenced by delinquent peers, delinquent friends, and gang membership within the theoretical framework of Differential Association/Social Learning. Social Control Theory has the least explanatory power, while the analysis of Anomie/Strain suggests that vicarious strains (those strains experienced by people close to the juvenile) have even more influence on juvenile firearms carrying than experienced strain. Theoretical integration is recommended for future research attempting to provide greater explanatory and predictive power for serious forms of delinquency like juvenile firearms carrying.
