Ristad, polerad, målad : En kritisk granskning av dateringarna av den norrländska bergkonsten / Pecked, polished, painted : An examination of the dating of rock art in northern SwedenDjuvfeldt, Erik January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this study has been to examine the methods and arguments used to date rock art sites in Swedish Norrland. Three types of rock art are discussed, the pecked, the polished and the painted. A secondary goal was to create a revised and up-to-date compilation of all currently known rock art sites in Norrland because the last compilation was published in 2004 and many more sites have been discovered since then. This study is based on previously published literature concerning the thoughts and theories of other scholars regarding the dating of the different sites. The study shows that the methods and arguments employed to date sites are weak. In some cases authors are more or less guessing as concerns the date of a rock art site.

Skifferkulturens uppkomstUnderdal, Björn January 2019 (has links)
The Norrlandic Slate Culture was a hunter-gatherer culture that emerged in northern Sweden during the transition from the late Mesolithic to the early Neolithic, c. 4200 BC. This paper deals with the Slate Culture’s relation to its neighbouring, contemporary cultures in Norway and Finland, and examines three types of typical finds related to the Slate Culture: enclosures of fire-cracked stones (Swe. skärvstensvall), petroglyphs and slate objects. The conclusion is that the Slate culture found inspiration to these phenomena from its neighbouring cultures and turned them into something of their own.

This paper examines the relationship between the landscape at Bronze Age figurative rock art sites in the province of Södermanland in Sweden with the types of motifs and number of motifs present at the sites. For this purpose, six different properties in the landscape are studied with GIS: Height above sea level, cardinal direction of the slope, distance to the shoreline, cardinal direction to the nearest body of water, visibility of the rock art sites from major waterways and coastline, and type of rock at the site. While comparing the landscape properties of rock art sites grouped by the motifs present, the landscape properties height above sea level, and distance to the shoreline differed the most between motifs. Footprint- and human motifs diverge the most from general patterns. As for the comparison of landscape properties between figure-rich sites and those with only one figure in total, the biggest differences in landscape were the height above sea level and types of rock present at the sites. The conclusion drawn is that while certain landscape properties differ between motifs or figure-rich and single-figure sites, there are also certain properties and patterns that were consistently chosen for all rock art sites in Södermanland.

The time between rock art and hillfortTörnberg Goldring, Christian January 2024 (has links)
There are two main areas of rock art in Västmanland county with a close relation to the ancient shorelines. In both areas, there are hillforts that have not yet been dated. The aim is to date Näsborgen and Kastena Skans in eastern and western Västmanland by using the geographic information system QGIS and ancient shoreline data obtained from Geological Survey of Sweden (SGU). Additionally, the hillforts are considered from a landscape perspective and their relation to rock art sites and heaps of fire-cracked stones, which support Bronze Age datings for these hillforts. The analysis uses previously confirmed Bronze Age datings of three hillforts in Uppland as a reference for the hillforts in Västmanland and provides an overview of other nearby hillforts. Both Näsborgen and Kastena Skans are determined to have been constructed during the Bronze Age.

Hällvoltigörerns baklängesvolt : Ett hopp för framtiden? / The backward somersault of the rock voltigeur, a hope for the future?Söderström, Roger January 2024 (has links)
The purpose of this essay has been to analyze the design and geographical location of rock image voltigeurs within Västra Götaland in order to understand the possible relationship the rock voltigeurs may have had to the Bronze Age metal trade network. The primary source material consists of information about the bronze vaulter from Grevensvænge, Zealand, and the rock image vaulters in Fornsök and the Swedish Rock Art Research Archive as an image database that could be substantiated by documentation and verified that the figure falls within the essay's definition of vault. Quantitative methods that have been used have mainly been to make a comparative analysis of the parameters included in certain analysis themes. It has not been possible to infer any demonstrable relationship with the trade routes of the metal trade within the framework of an essay at this level.
