[en] REPRESENTATIONS NON-FIGURATIVES OF PAIN / [pt] REPRESENTAÇÕES NÃO-FIGURATIVAS DA DOR

LUIZ CARLOS COELHO DE OLIVEIRA 03 April 2019 (has links)
(IF, 245). / [en] This dissertation investigates non-figurative discursive ways of presentation of pain to see, go on from there, the possible modalities of enunciation of self-expression that, even reacting to a crisis of representation, call into question a sense of real as unrepresentable. The study focuses on the writings of three authors in the twentieth century responded with different emphasis to the issue addressed here: Ludwig Wittgenstein, Antonin Artaud and Henry Miller. The issue that is shaping this work is caused by the predilection of Wittgenstein for the theme of pain in his Philosophical Investigations in the treatment of private language argument. Wittgenstein at this point calls for a reflection that addresses the manifestations of language related to pain, not being the representation of individual s inner world, constitutes behaviors exercised in specific language games that give them relevance. ―How I can even attempt to interpose language between the expression of pain and the pain? (PI, 245). First of all, it proposes a reflection that, from Wittgenstein s warnings, addressed to question a defense of the unrepresentable, looking for a reading of discursive modes of Wittgenstein s own for the presentation of occasions in which the expression of pain by language not being a representation is a behavior before the pain. And, secondly, a reading of works by Antonin Artaud and Henry Miller whose pain treatment, in view of this reading of Wittgenstein, presents discursive modalities engaged in a non-figurative expression and averse to a real sense as unrepresentable.

Webbhjälpmedel för synskadade

Tenhunen, Katja, Holm, Jannica January 2002 (has links)

The purpose of this paper is to find out how visually impaired people get information on Internet. Visually impaired people has got the right to be able to use the Internet like everyone else. We are also going to revise which aids visually impaired people use today, and how they work in practise. What problems can you run into when you use these aids? We are also going to revise how the webpages design affect the use of the Internet for the visually impaired people. The sites of today tends to contain more and more graphics without alternative texts. The aids a visually impaired person use have problems to interpret the graphics, which leads to that many sites are inaccessible for this group of people . We have interviewed nine visually impaired and blind people to get insight in how they use the Internet and which aids are the most common and how they work in practise. We have come to the conclusion that a lot of visually impaired people today are very dependent of the Internet. These people use sites that they from their own experience knows works. The persons we have talked to told us that they feel that many sites are not adjusted to visually impaired people. At the same time we discovered that the technology to interpret graphics on the Internet actually exists. But this technology is not available since the eye clinics does not realise the importance of updating the aids more often.
/

The Rogers Case: Examining Kentucky's Democratic Deconstruction through Prison Expansion and Campaign Finance

Hughes, Leah R 01 January 2015 (has links)
This investigation into the rapid expansion of prison construction and mass incarceration in Eastern Kentucky under the leadership of Congressman and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Hal Rogers aims to determine why this policy has continued to be a viable political strategy for Rogers despite its apparent failure to advance social and economic development in the region. This analysis suggests that the Rogers Case can be used as a case study to greater understand the proliferation of political power available to elected officials in ANY district where the democratic incentive structure encourages politicians to represent the interests of private corporations and industries instead of constituents as long as they can count on their campaign contributions and the protection of their incumbencies.

La myopathie exsudative et dépigmentaire (PSE) chez le porc et la dinde / The myopathy exsudative and depigmentary (PSE) in porc and turkey

Ngo, Hong-Phuong 08 July 2009 (has links)
The objective of this study is to characterize the alteration of meat quality of the pork and the turkey. In pork, the quality of the meat is handicapped by a lesion exsudative myopathy called PSE (Pale Soft Exsudative) or localized destructured meats. The transformation of these meats leads to a reduced performance following an important water loss and a serious defect of presentation of the end product will cause massive losses in economy. Among the factors influencing the appearance of the lesion, HAL and RN genotypes occupy the first plan to limit these effects in pork. In the second plan, the pre-mortem environment has an all-important influence also and in particular the slaughter conditions. Comparative histology of muscles shows that the structure of the vascular network and the typology of muscle fibers of various genotypes HAL and RN in pork are responsible for their vulnerability. In turkey, the expressions of PSE muscle problem are probably similar to those observed in pork. Quality characteristics of 3 lines of turkey (Hybride, Nicholas and BUT9) were studied. The rate of pH fall post-mortem and the colour of the meat (which were evaluated in the L*a*b* system) have reinforced us in this position.

Notes Towards a Mental Breakdown : det teknologiska traumat i J.G. Ballards The Atrocity Exhibition

Nyke, Siri January 2009 (has links)

This study examinates technology's traumatic impact on the male subject in The Atrocity Exhibition by J.G. Ballard. In my analysis I show how the protagonist uses a fetischistic strategy in order to make sense of the trauma that technology embeds. Paradoxically it proves to be the agent of his trauma, but also functions as his shield. The machine is thus in a position of the hinge, the point in a structural system that both enables and deconstruct the system. In the same position we find the woman. She is the very epicentre of the novel and the violence directed towards her is part of a complex problem that I adress. The woman is divided into pieces and fetischized by the male gaze to serve as a solution for his trauma.

Hal Foster's notion ”the double logic of prosthesis” constitutes a theoretical base. The model shows how a fetischistic strategy is applied by avant-garde artists to solve the technological trauma that they experience. Both content and composition of The Atrocity Exhibition are inspired by avant-garde practices, I have therefore compared the text with Foster's theory on how the avant-garde problematized the interaction between man and machine. Marshall McLuhan's belief that the human body and technology are inseparable in the era of electronics further helps me to study technology's effect on perception.

Instruction-set-simulator-less Virtual Prototype Framework for Embedded Software Development

Ni, Nick 15 December 2011 (has links)
With continuous advancement in silicon technology and high feature demands on consumer electronics, the complexity of embedded software has led the software development effort to dominate System-On-Chip (SoC) design. Virtual Prototype (VP) addresses the problem by enabling early software development before hardware arrival. However, VP still poses challenges: 1) Instruction Set Simulator (ISS) degrades simulation time, 2) Development is restricted to embedded processor specific tools and 3) Applications and drivers are dependent on system software completion. In this work, we propose an abstraction framework which: 1) Removes ISS from VP, achieving native host software execution time, 2) Activates rich suites of desktop development tools in host by compiling embedded software in host binary and 3) Allows system software independent application and driver development. With this framework, we successfully demonstrated up to 2000% speed-up in VP run-time over conventional VP and improved software development productivity significantly.

Dialogue with dispensationalism : Hal Lindsey's dispensational eschatology and its implications for an articulation of Christian hope in a nuclear age

Levan, Christopher, 1953- January 1990 (has links)
This dissertation explores the question of hope in the nuclear age by examining a movement within the North American Christian tradition known as dispensationalism. It concentrates specifically on one author, Hal Lindsey, whose books on the "end-times" are the basis for much of the current Christian apocalyptic thinking on this continent. There are two fundamental questions: (1) What does Lindsey's dispensational interpretation of God and Divine providence do to his understanding of hope?; (2) Does Lindsey's interpretation of the hope contribute anything to an articulation of hope in the nuclear age? In response to the first question, it is determined that Lindsey's Theology is governed by a providentialism which controls both his doctrine of God and his understanding of hope. History is controlled by a providential plan to which everything, even God, is bound. This plan ends with the destruction of the planet. Thus, hope, in Lindsey's terms, can only emerge after the destruction of the present order. In answer to the second question, it is explained that while Lindsey's apocalypticism gives faith a strong motivation and the sense of a limit to human pride, it undermines human responsibility for the planet and diminishes the ethical dimension of the gospel's call to discipleship.
