The Brazilian educational policy, since the enactment of the Law of Guidelines and Bases (LDB), Law 9.394 / 96, provides that vocational education is not a mere training to fill certain jobs. It must promote the transition between school and the world of work, enabling young people and adults with specific knowledge and general skills and productive, it is essential to encourage and empower these people to the demands of day-to-day in their tasks in whatever their activity. In pursuit of this personal development, deserves the contributions of Neuroscience, which brings the concept of the cerebral subject, enabling better understand the anatomy, physiology and brain function learning. By demonstrating that every brain is unique in its uniqueness within the diversity of students in the classroom, gives opportunity a dialogue with the Education, contributing new ways to develop the learner's thinking capacity. Thus, based on the relationship between Neuroscience and Education, this work brings to Mind Maps tools and Six Thinking Hats as possible collaborators in teaching in the classroom for the enhancement of creative behavior. The study by mixed method (qualitative and quantitative) involved data collection from a practical experience in a course given to 16 students in technical and technological level of secondary and higher education of Federal Institute of Science and Technology Education, Rio Grande Campus. The instruments used were Chaffee Creativity test (2000), questionnaires, analysis spreadsheet of written productions and travel observation sheet Applying these tools in information management and development of potentiating skills of creativity, based on the obtained results, the research establishes the possible benefits of Mind Maps and Six Thinking Hats to promote the necessary skills of students who leave school to deal with the search for new ideas and solutions in the face of demands in companies that perform their professional activities, and brings subsidies for collaborating with new effective teaching strategies to assist teachers in their educational activities.

Assessment of the use of personal protective clothing among health workers in selected hospitals of Vhembe District in Limpopo Province, South Africa.

Mukhawa, Cecilia 20 September 2019 (has links)
Department of Advanced Nursing Science / MCur / This study was carried out to assess the use of protective clothing among health care workers in selected hospitals of Vhembe District in Limpopo Province, South Africa. Protective clothing is the corner stone of health care facilities and it remains the most cost effective measure which is currently available in public health intervention. Although personal protective clothing is one of the best lines of protection against hazardous exposures, many healthcare workers either shun this protective apparel or do not wear it in an appropriate manner at the appropriate time. The purpose of the study was to assess the use of protective clothing of health care workers in selected hospitals of the Vhembe District, in the Limpopo province of South Africa. The study followed a quantitative approach using a cross-sectional design. The population comprised of all health care workers in purposefully selected hospitals and the sample was 205 health care workers who were 21 years and older. A questionnaire was selfdesigned in English, translated into Tshi-Venda, Se-Sotho and Xi-Tsonga languages. Data was collected by the researcher in selected hospitals of Vhembe District. The statistical package for social sciences (SPSS version 25) was used to analyse the collected data. Validity and reliability were ensured. Permission to conduct research was obtained from the University of Venda Higher Degree Committee, Department of Health in Limpopo Province for Ethical Clearance, and the institutions where the study was conducted. The use of protective clothing among health care workers was found to be relatively low (8, 3%) probably due to unavailability of protective clothing in the hospitals, allergic reactions and ignorance. Lack of knowledge regarding the use of protective clothing could also explain the low yield of the detected cases for not using protective clothing while on duty in this study. Based on the findings, the study conclusions and recommendations were that all health care workers should follow the stipulated policy on protective clothing and periodic awareness campaigns to be held to conscientise workers on the importance of wearing personal protective clothing. / NRF

Cell Toxicity and Uptake of RRR-Alpha-Tocopheryl Polyethylene Glycol 1000 Succinate (TPGS) by Various Cell ines In Vitro.

Komguem Kamga, Christelle 16 August 2005 (has links) (PDF)
This research focused on investigating and comparing the cytotoxicity and cellular uptake of RRR-alpha-tocopheryl polyethylene glycol succinate (TPGS, with that of alpha-tocopheryl succinate (α-TS). Both TPGS and α-TS are water-soluble forms of vitamin E with important clinical applications. Cytotoxicity assays with RAW 264.7 and LNCaP cells incubated overnight with TPGS or α-TS at concentrations ≥ 12.4 μM suggest that α-TS is more cytotoxic than TPGS. Macrophages were found to be more sensitive than LNCaP cells when treated with similar concentrations of α-TS. For both cell lines, most of the TPGS or α-TS taken up remained esterified after 24 hours. Our results suggest that cell death was due to TPGS and/or α-TS and not alpha-tocopherol. A para-hydroxyanilide of α-TS (p-HATS) that could be used to distinguish between cellular TPGS and α-TS was studied. It was found that p-HATS can be detected electrochemically and that it is hydrolyzed to α-TOH.

Impact of the reactivation of histone acetylation on memory performance in a transgenic mouse model of Alzheimer's disease : towards a new therapeutic strategy?

Cassel, Raphaelle 29 September 2014 (has links)
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is characterized by a progressive loss of memory and cognitive functions associated with the development of neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) and amyloid plaques in the brain. Nowadays, there is no satisfactory cure for AD. The discovery of epigenetic alterations in AD brain led the scientist community to think about new therapeutic options. Such modifications, and notably those on histone acetylation of the chromatin, could be associated with the genetic dysfunctions observed in AD. The reestablishment of proper epigenetic regulations, and thus gene expression, appears as an original therapeutic option. Using THY-Tau22 mice, we assessed the effect of two strategies aimed at increasing histone acetylation with a HAT activator (CSP-TTK21) or an HDAC inhibitor (phenylbutyrate). We show that both therapeutic strategies allow the rescue of spatial memory performances in the THY-Tau22 mouse model. These results open new leads for AD therapeutics and research.

Exploring the Use of Augmented Reality in the Experience Industry : A Study on Technological Innovation through Prototyping

Catalán, Alberto, Gidlöf, Frida January 2018 (has links)
This master thesis is a case study, in the experience industry, of prototypes in the early stage of the innovation process – the front end of innovation. The innovation is augmented reality (AR) that adds digital made graphics or information in the user's environment. To answer the research questions and to fulfill the purpose of this thesis, which is to gain an understanding of the role of a prototype in an innovation process, a prototype was created. The designing tools used for developing the prototype were brainstorming and storyboarding. The prototype presents a concept of using AR-glasses at an ice hockey venue. A workshop was carried out for evaluating the finished prototype, using the "thinking hats"-method. The conclusion of this study is that a prototype can be used as a starting point for further creativity by creating a common perspective of a technology at the front end of innovation. Further on, it was discovered that a prototype can be good to use earlier in their innovation process, to accelerate the process. In the process of designing the prototype, it was shown that the creation is iterative, rather than linear.
