Healthy eating habits among Korean AmericansKang, Sook Jung 13 July 2012 (has links)
The primary aim of the study was to examine the predictive relationships among personal factors (age, gender, education, income, BMI, and acculturation), barriers to healthy eating, healthy eating self-efficacy, environmental factors, and healthy eating habits among Korean Americans (KAs). The conceptual framework was adopted from Pender’s Health Promotion Model. Bivariate correlations among the study variables and hierarchical multiple regression tests were performed to determine the predictive relationships among the variables. Mediating and moderating effects were explored, as were generational differences in barriers, self-efficacy, and healthy eating habits.
The study was designed as a retrospective, cross-sectional, correlational study. A nonprobability sample of 137 KAs was recruited from KA communities by the surveys in Texas, California, Georgia, Maryland, and other states. Although none of the personal factors were significantly related to healthy eating habits, some of the strength and direction of the relationships between personal factors and healthy eating habits were changed when behavior-specific cognitions and environmental factors moderated those relationships .
The main finding of the study was that self-efficacy was the strongest predictor for healthy eating habits. Additional data obtained from this study was the discrepancy between confidence in reducing sodium intake and the actual sodium intake. Considering that high sodium intake is a problematic concern for Koreans and KAs, as well as for the general American population, further research is needed to identify the factors related to this concern and to improve this health issue. Also, further studies related to eating habits among KAs with a wide range of generational levels and geographic areas are necessary to gain a deeper understanding of their health and to promote healthy eating habits. / text

Abstract Emma Bergdahl Obstacles and opportunities among occupational health nurses when implementing healthy eating habits. C thesis in Public Health. Faculty of Health and Occupational Studies. University of Gävle. Autumn 2012 Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate which obstacles and opportunities nurses within occupational health find when trying to implement healthy eating habits among the employees in their respective company. Another objective was to see if the nurses worked according to the Guidelines, issued by the National Board of Health and Welfare. Method: The study was a quantitative study and conducted among nurses in central Sweden. A web survey was distributed to nurses who chose to participate. The response rate was 66 percent. The results were compiled in Excel since the characters and results are displayed in the form of figures, text and quotes. Results: The results showed that the most common obstacles found by nurses when trying to implement healthy eating habits among workers, were lack of motivation, lack of time and finances of companies. The opportunities were motivation, cooperation with other actors and adequate knowledge in the field. Healthy eating habits received low priority among the nurses. Conclusion: Motivation will always be necessary in order to change lifestyle or habits. Therefore, a high priority must be to work more with how to motivate those individuals who may not be so inclined to make a change.

The Influence of Teaching Digital Resources of MyPlate on Nutrition Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practice (KAP) for Healthy Eating Habits of ChildrenAlsofyani, Afaf 01 August 2024 (has links) (PDF)
This study examines the influence of teaching digital resources of MyPlate on the nutrition knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) related to healthy eating habits among first and second-grade students. A pre-and post-assessment of this quasi-experimental research study measured the baseline KAP levels of 45 participants regarding healthy eating habits. Students were divided into three groups: digital MyPlate (n =16), pencil-and-paper (n =15), and control (n =14). Following the pre-assessment, an intervention was conducted involving teaching MyPlate and the five food groups. A post-assessment was then implemented to measure the change in KAP levels resulting from the intervention. In addition to the surveys, digital photography observation was used to assess the practice component of the intervention. Participants' lunch meals at the cafeteria were photographed before and after consumption to observe food variety and meal composition. An ANOVA was used to analyze the differences in post-assessment scores between the three groups: 2 intervention groups (the digital MyPlate group and the pencil-and-paper group) and the control group for knowledge, attitudes, and practice. For knowledge, F(2, 42) = 15.55, p < .001 indicating significant differences between groups for knowledge post-assessment. For attitudes, ANOVA revealed no significant differences, F(2, 42) = 1.619, p < .21. For practice, ANOVA revealed differences that approached but were not quite significant, F(2, 42) = 3.025, p < .0593. Tukey’s post-hoc tests showed a significant difference in the outcome between the digital MyPlate group and the control group (diff = 4.41, p-value of 0.00), and the pencil-and-paper group and the control group (diff = 3.68, p-value of 0.00) for knowledge. Both the digital MyPlate and pencil-and-paper group scored significantly higher than the control group on knowledge post-assessment. However, when pre-test and post-test measures of knowledge, attitudes, and practice were analyzed, there were no significant changes between pre- and post-test data for any of the groups (digital, pencil-and-paper, control). This study had several limitations such as a small sample size and intervention duration. This research can be used as a basis for future studies on MyPlate by expanding the intervention or investigating if this knowledge can lead to behavioral changes.

Pradinių klasių mokinių daržovių ir vaisių vartojimo ypatumai / The characteristics of the vegetables and fruits consumption among the primary classes pupilsButkus, Gintautas 27 June 2014 (has links)
Statistinė duomenų analizė atlikta naudojant SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) statistinę programinę įrangą (13.0 for Windows versija) ir Epi Info (Version 5.1) kompiuterinę programą. Išanalizavus atlikto tyrimo duomenis... [toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Adequate consumption of fruits and vegetables is the undisputed evidence of healthy nutrition skills.

Projeto Jovem Doutor na conscientização da prática de atividades físicas e hábitos saudáveis para a prevenção da síndrome da apneia obstrutiva do sono / Youth Doctor project on awareness of the practice of physical activities and healthy habits for the sleep apnea syndrome preventionSilva, Vinicius José 23 February 2017 (has links)
Obesity has become a public health issue throughout the world, due to the significant increasing of this disease, which is considered chronic, complex, multifactorial, and liable for many cardiocirculatory, locomotors, metabolic and breathing problems, such as high blood pressure, Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS), among others. Studies indicate to an important relation, where children and adolescents overweight or obesity, have a greater chance to become obese adults. The present research has developed a Health Education Program (HEP) with seven meetings to the Ninth grade students of the regular Elementary School II and first year of the High School at a public school in the State of São Paulo, in order to sensitizing them about the Importance to practicing physical activities and healthy habits to the prevention of OSAHS and obesity. The program has been divided into 3 stages: development, implementation and evaluation of HEP. In the first stage, the researcher arranged the basic structure of the program and prepared the material. In the second stage, there were face-to-face meetings with students with questionnaires, anthropometric evaluation, access to the Moodle Learning Platform, playful activities and social action. In the third step, there was the HEP evaluation. The results showed that the program provided meaningful learning for the students about the content developed, since there was the students\' understanding about the benefits of physical activity practice implemented in daily life, as well as the importance of eating habits and healthy behavior for prevention of Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS) and obesity, and lastly, the multiplication of knowledge to the school community through social action resulting in health promotion with the information learned dissemination.
