Klassisk musik och filmmusik : en dialog utan ord – känslor med musik?

Denna skriftliga reflektion inom självständigt konstnärligt arbete behandlar klassisk musik och filmmusik som musikformer. I studien analyseras och diskuteras emotionella upplevelser hos musikern vad gäller likheter och skillnader med inriktning mot den typiska romantiska stilen. Syftet är tvåfaldigt: i) att som musiker och violinist i ett konsertsammanhang framföra fyra verk: två från den klassiska romantiska repertoaren, två från filmmusikrepertoaren; ii) att som musiker analysera hur jag interpreterar och upplever klassisk musik och filmmusik. De två spåren täcker in det väsentligaste för att komma fram till ett svar på vad likheterna och skillnaderna innebär för upplevelser av musiken. Studiens resultat påvisar att jag som musiker upplever en skillnad i hur jag instuderar och interpreterar de fyra musikstyckena utifrån om det är klassisk musik eller filmmusik. Klassisk musik upplever jag som mer konventionsstyrd medan filmmusik möjliggör en friare interpretation.

L'expérience H.E.S.S. est un réseau de télescope Tcherenkov, situé en Namibie, qui observe le rayonnement de sources astrophysiques de rayons gamma de très haute énergie. Depuis sa mise en service il y a plus de dix ans, H.E.S.S. a permis d'améliorer considérablement notre vision de l'univers à ces énergies. Depuis 2012, le démarrage de la deuxième phase de l'expérience avec la mise en service d'un cinquième télescope permet de baisser le seuil en énergie de l'expérience.L'optimisation d'une analyse multivariée au sein de l'expérience H.E.S.S. est présentée dans cette thèse. L'analyse Xeff a été amélioré en prenant en compte les conditions d'observations, et en introduisant de nouvelles variables dans l'estimateur. Un gain de sensibilité de l'analyse par rapport aux analyses standards est observé. Cette méthode a été ensuite utilisée pour diverses analyses de sources de rayons gamma.La prise en compte des effets de la focalisation de l'analyse de données de H.E.S.S. II est détaillée. L'ajustement de la distance entre la caméra et les miroir du cinquième télescope permet d'améliorer l'image dans le plan focal. L'amélioration de la reconstruction et le gain en sensibilité qui en découle est présenté.L'étude du rayonnement gamma de quatre candidats d'associations de vestiges de supernova et de nuages moléculaires est présentée : G349.7+0.2, W51, la nébuleuse de la Tornade, et HESS J1745-303. Une interprétation de ce rayonnement utilisant également les données de Fermi-LAT permet d'estimer l'origine dominante des mécanismes d'émission et d'appréhender l'efficacité d'accélération de particules par ces systèmes.Les travaux présentés dans cette thèse ont fait l'objet de deux notes internes à la collaboration H.E.S.S., de multiples présentations dans des conférences internationales et de publications scientifiques. / The H.E.S.S. experiment is an array of Cherenkov telescopes, located in Namibia, observing the very high energy gamma rays from astrophysical sources. H.E.S.S. greatly increased our understanding of the very high energy non thermal universe. Since 2012, a fifth telescope was installed at the center of the array. This improvement increase the energy range and the sensitivity of the detector.The optimization of a multivariate analysis method, within the H.E.S.S. framework, is presented in this thesis. The Xeff analysis is improved by taking into account the observation conditions and by increasing the number of discriminating variables. The sensitivity of this analysis compared to standard analyses is demonstrated. Xeff is then used to analyze several sources of gamma rays.The effects of the focus impacting the H.E.S.S. II data are described. They are taken into account in the analysis and an optimization of the distance between the mirrors and the camera is presented.The study of the gamma emission from four candidates of molecular clouds and supernova remnant associations is presented. The H.E.S.S. data from G349.7+0.2, W51, the Tornado nebula and HESS J1745-303 is performed. The interpretation of their emission, using also Fermi-LAT data, leads to the estimation of the particles acceleration efficiency in these objects.The work described in this thesis led to the production of two internal notes in the H.E.S.S. collaboration, to several presentations in international conferences, and scientific publications.

A study of the emission processes of two different types of gamma-emitting Active Galactic Nuclei / Étude des processus d'émission dans deux types différents des Noyaux Actifs des Galaxies émetteurs des rayons gamma

Ce manuscrit de thèse présente l’étude des processus d’émission de deux types de noyaux actifs de galaxie détectés aux rayons gamma : des blazars vues au TeV et des Narrow Line Seyfert 1s (NLS1s) détectés au GeV. La distribution spectrale d’énergie des blazars peut être décrite en général par des modèles 'one-zone synchrotron self-Compton'. Ce modèle a été appliqué au blazar 1ES2322-409 qui fut premièrement détecté au TeV par l’expérience HESS. Des composantes externes comme le tore, le disque d’accrétion, la couronne X ou la 'Broad Line Region' sont nécessaires pour expliquer la radiation observée dans des NLS1 qui émettent des rayons gamma. Un modèle numérique qui considère ces champs des photons externes a été développé. Ce modèle explique l’émission observée et la transition entre des états bas et des états d’émission augmentée pour trois NLS1s vues au régime gamma : 1H0323+342, B20954+25A et PMN J0948+0022. / This thesis manuscript presents the study of the emission processes of two types of gamma-emitting active galactic nuclei: TeV-detected blazars and GeV-detected Narrow Line Seyfert 1s (NLS1s).The Spectral Energy Distribution (SED) of TeV blazars can in general be well described by simple one-zone synchrotron self-Compton models. Such model has been applied to the blazar 1ES2322-409 that was first detected at TeV by the HESS collaboration.Additional external photon fields such as the obscuring torus, the accretion disc, the X-ray corona or the broad line region are necessary to describe the observed radiation and broad-band SED of gamma-emitting NLS1s. A numerical model that takes into account emission from these external fields has been developed. The model explains the observed emission and the transition from quiescent to gamma-ray flaring states of three gamma-emitting NLS1s: 1H0323+342, B20954+25A and PMN J0948+0022.

Otimização numérica do escoamento interno em estruturas em forma de T aplicando o método design construtal

Este trabalho tem como propósito, investigar a validade da lei de Hess-Murray, através da experimentação numérica, aplicando o método do Design Construtal associado ao método de otimização da busca exaustiva, no escoamento interno em estruturas em forma de T com seção circular. Variação do número de Reynolds, escoamento de fluidos newtonianos e não newtonianos, estrutura em forma de T com paredes impermeáveis e permeáveis, foram as principais características avaliadas para confrontar a lei de Hess-Murray. O estudo proposto assume escoamento tridimensional, laminar, incompressível, regime permanente e propriedades fluidodinâmicas constantes, sendo o regime de escoamento governado pelo número de Reynolds (Re). O objetivo principal consiste em determinar as configurações ótimas que facilitem o escoamento de fluido ou minimizem as resistências ao escoamento, quando a área ocupada pelos dutos (A) e o volume ocupado pelos dutos (V) são mantidos constantes, variando-se as razões de diâmetros (aD) e comprimentos (aL). As equações de conservação de massa e quantidade de movimento, foram resolvidas através do método de volumes finitos. A geometria foi discretizada através de uma malha tridimensional composta por aproximadamente 1.950.000 elementos. Como resultados, obteve-se as geometrias ótimas que apresentaram resistências ao escoamento até 30 vezes menor do que as demais configurações. Além disso, foi possível verificar que a lei de Hess-Murray nem sempre é válida, visto que o sistema adapta sua geometria ótima para cada condição de escoamento, a fim de proporcionar a melhor arquitetura de escoamento para atender ao objetivo de minimizar as resistências ao escoamento em acordo com a Lei Construtal. Esta dissertação avançou no presente estado da arte, pois desenvolveu um modelo tridimensional sem simplificações, aplicado ao sistema de escoamento de fluidos em estrutura em forma de T utilizando o método do Design Construtal, validando os resultados analíticos apresentados na bibliografia e apresentando novas referências que permitem ampliar a complexidade dos sistemas de escoamento bem como a implementação de métodos de otimização mais avançados. / This work investigates, through the numerical experimentation together with the Construtal Design method, the Hess-Murray Law in the internal flow in T-shaped structures with a circular section for the laminar flow of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids with impermeable and permeable walls, determining the optimal configurations that facilitate fluid flow or minimize flow resistance. The geometric global constants, the volume occupied by the ducts (V) and the area occupied by the ducts (A), delimit the space occupied by the T-shaped structure and the degrees of freedom, the ratio between the diameter of the parent duct and daughter (aD) and the ratio between parent duct length and daughter (aL), are the main geometric parameters to be evaluated. The proposed study is assumed three-dimensional, laminar, incompressible, permanent and constant fluidodynamic properties being the flow regime governed by Reynolds number (Re). Construtal Design method, associated with the exhaustive search, was used to determine the global geometric constants, degrees of freedom and objective function in the geometric evaluation of the system. The numerical solution of the mass conservation and momentum equations is solved based on the finite volume method. The geometries and mesh of the computational domain was discretized through a three-dimensional composed of approximately 1,950,000 elements. The results show that the optimal geometries that presented resistance to the flow up to 30 times smaller than the other configurations. In addition, it was possible to verify that the Hess-Murray Law is not always valid, since the system adapts its optimal geometry to each flow condition, in order to provide a better flow architecture to meet the objective of minimizing resistance to flow in agreement with the Constructal Law. This work advanced in the present state of the art, since it developed a three-dimensional model without simplifications, applied to the fluid flow system in T-shaped structure using the Construtal Design method, validating the analytical results presented in the bibliography and presenting new references that allow increase the complexity of flow systems as well as the implementation of more advanced optimization methods.

An investigation of high- and low-temperature mid-ocean ridge hydrothermal systems using trace element geochemistry and lithium isotopes

This dissertation combines mineralogical data and petrographic and field observations with geochemical analysis (major, trace and isotope) to provide new insights into the hydrology and geochemistry of mid-ocean ridge hydrothermal systems. Two study areas were chosen to study two different aspects of hydrothermal circulation: high-temperature on-axis hydrothermal systems were studied using samples from the Hess Deep Rift (Cocos Plate, Equatorial Pacific) and low-temperature off-axis hydrothermal systems were studied at the Troodos Ophiolite in Cyprus. Significant findings include the documentation of a previously unknown warm fluid that pervades the lavas leaching Li from newly formed crust. This finding corroborates a model of broad hydrothermal discharge in the sheeted dikes. In the off-axis low-temperature regime, lateral flow of warm fluid is documented in the lavas, advecting heat from the oceanic lithosphere, with minor geochemical changes to the lavas. The sedimentary cover was found to influence alteration in two ways. The longer an area remains unsedimented allowing the free ingress and egress of seawater, the deeper the enrichment of alkali metals is observed. The maximum enrichment in alkali metals (K, Rb, Cs) however, is similar in both locations. The sedimentary cover can also modify the seawater before it becomes impermeable to fluid flow; early metaliferrous oxide sediments react with seawater, creating a fluid that mobilizes and fractionates the REEs and Y. The fractionation results in negative Ce anomalies, positive Eu anomalies, and negative Y anomalies. Basalts altered under these conditions also lack the ubiquitous Fe-oxides and Fe-oxyhydroxides that are commonly associated with alkali metal uptake. In situ trace element analysis of alteration minerals formed at low-temperature confirmed that secondary phyllosilicates are strongly enriched in alkali metals (K, Rb, Cs and Li), Ba is found in adularia and zeolites, Sr is hosted in carbonates, and no phases were found to be enriched in U. The concentrations of K2O, Rb, Cs (as well as B) are highest in celadonites, whereas Li concentrations are highest in smectites (saponite, Al-saponite, beidellite) and smectite-chlorite mixtures, and much higher than previously reported. Alkalis are also taken up into palagonite, with Li having the highest concentrations, over 1000 ppm in one analysis. Crystal chemical factors were found to be the dominant control on trace element uptake, and for the phyllosilicates no correlation was found between the temperature, age of the crust, texture of the phyllosilicates. In phyllosilicates the K, Rb and Cs are adsorbed as exchange cations, with enrichment (Cs > Rb > K) increasing with decreasing hydration energy, whereas the uptake of Li and B does not correlate with the hydration energy. Lithium concentrations also do not correlate with the Mg content, suggesting substitution of Li for Mg is not the only mechanism of Li uptake into phyllosilicates as has been suggested. / Graduate
