The charatezation of cupuaçu fatty waste was perfomed by gas chromatography (CG-FID) and by means of physic-chemical parameters such as index of acidity, peroxide and iodine. The waste showed as major fatty acid the palmitic acid (43.60 %) and already had the percentage of free acids rather high (70.32 % of FFA). For processing the waste in the esterification step were employed homogeneous catalysts, HCl and H2SO4, and the heterogeneous catalyst sulfated zirconia. This catalyst was prepared by two methods, called solvent-free method and conventional method, the solids were characterized by IR, XRD, TG/DTG and the method of adsorption of gaseous pyridine to assess the acidity of the material. In homogeneous catalysis, the sulfuric acid had the best performance, reaching yield of 94.35 % in 10 hours of reaction. Among the solid catalysts, the one prepared by the solvent free-method (ZrS) was the one who was more active in esterification, therefore, performed a kinetic study of the esterification reaction using ZrS at temperatures of 80, 100, 120 and 140 oC in the presence of methanol and ethanol alcohols in the reactor.

The tendency of comprehensive utilization of agro-industrial residues such as rice husk, the fibers of the coconut husk, bagasse of sugar cane, among others, has been a need and at the same time, a technological and environmental challenge for modern industry and society. Therefore this research deals with the agribusiness residue behavior (rice husks), as a catalyst support in the impregnation of nickel ferrite (NiFe2O4), for the biodiesel synthesis by the method of hidroesterification. The rice husks were calcined by 3 h at 500, 700 and 1000 ° C, and then impregnated with ferrite Nickel (NiFe2O4) at 110 °C, resulting in the catalysts identified by NiFe2O4-CCA 500 °C, NiFe2O4-CCA 700 ºC and NiFe2O4-CCA 1000 ºC. The biodiesels were synthesized separately using these catalysts by the method of hidroesterification, which involves the hydrolysis steps, followed by esterification. This last step was performed on reason cotton oil / ethanol 1:6 with 1% of the catalyst obtained, at 200 ° C by 2 h. The results showed that the physicochemical properties, acidity and viscosity levels, are within the limits allowed by Brazilian Legislation, the Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels National Agency (ANP), since biodiesel synthesized by the catalyst at 500 °C presented the lowest levels of acidity and viscosity. The TG and DTG curves showed three (BCat 500 ºC) to four (BCat 700 and 1000 °C) steps of thermal decomposition, attributed to volatilization and /or decomposition of the ethyl fatty acids esters (mainly of its biggest linoleate and ethyl oleate components). These curves also showed temperature stability of each product, with the BCat 1000 °C more stable compared to the other, reaching a temperature of 226 ºC providing increased safety to the biofuel regarding to the storage process. Absorption spectra in the infrared region confirmed the presence of ethyl fatty acids esters with vibrational band with strong intensity at 1749.7 cm-1. In summary, the results proved demonstrated to be satisfactory for the purpose of the aim, offering an alternative of implementation of agribusiness residue (rice husks) to reduce an environmental problem generated by it in this sector.

Produção de biodiesel a partir de óleo de macaúba com alta acidez empregando processos de hidroesterificação / Production of biodiesel from macaw palm oil with high acidity employing hydroesterification process

Machado, Sara Aparecida 11 August 2017 (has links)
The hydroesterification process has been investigated as an alternative to alcaline transesterification. This process consists of two associated steps, the hydrolysis step in which the triacylglycerol molecules are hydrolyzed to the respective acids, resulting in glycerol as a by-product and then the esterification step in which the fatty acids obtained in the first step are esterified with the desired alcohol. This process favors the use of raw materials with any content of free fatty acids and moisture, which may represent the reduction of production cost. The macaw palm(Acronomia aculeata) has a high yield in oil (4000L/ of oil per hectare per year) and from its fruits are extracted oils rich in oleic acid and palmitic . Due to its composition, macaw oil stands out as a promising raw material for biodiesel production. However, its oil presents high acidity and cannot be used feedstock for biodiesel production by a conventional alkaline route In this context, this work has as main objective to establish the hydroesterification process to enable the use of this raw material. In the first step of the hydrolysis process, the microbial lipases from Rhizophus oryzae, Candida rugosa and vegetable lipase extract from castor bean has been studied as catalysts. The results showed good performance of the microbial lipases, highlighting the lipase from Candida rugosa that presented conversions of 77% resulting in a hydrolyzate with 93% free fatty acids (FFA) in 8 hours of reaction using the macaw oil with acidity of 37mgKOH/g under the following reaction conditions: 40°C, pH 7.0, stirring at 1000 rpm and biocatalyst concentration of 2908U/ g of substrate. The enzyme extract from castor seed also showed good results with 56% conversions in the hydrolysis of macaw pulp oil (63mgKOH/g) resulting in a hydrolyzate with 83% (FFA) in 4h, under the following reaction conditions: temperature of 35ºC, pH 4.5, stirring at 1000 rpm and catalyst concentration of 23U/g of substrate. In this stage of the study, the use of ultrasound also was investigated. The results showed that the use of ultrasound provided an increase in hydrolysis conversion, allowing the use of pulp oil with higher acidity (72mgKOH/g). For the esterification step, phosphotungstic acid (HPW) impregnated with niobium oxide (Nb2O5) was studied as the catalyst. The esterification step employing HPW/Nb2O5 showed conversions of 97% under the reaction conditions of 250°C, stirring of 700 rpm, hydrolysed ethanol ratio of 1:40 and 15% of the catalyst. The characterization of the final product was in accordance with the ANP regarding the content of esters and viscosity, confirming the potential of this process in the production of biodiesel.

The process of hidroesterification (hydrolysis followed by esterification) is constituted as an alternative to the conventional process for producing biodiesel, because it allows the use of raw materials of any content of fatty acids and moisture. / In search of alternatives to recovery waste to animals slaughter, was studied a prototype of affordable continuous reactor for public use and local agribusiness, for purposes of producing liquid biofuels. As well, through the experimental evaluation of tallow use, acquired in public and homemade slaughterhouses Catolé Rocha-PB, using two types of methods, namely: hidroesterification and catalytic thermal cracking. The system was built on a laboratory scale, composed of metallic materials of stainless steel and some silicone connections. The system is composed of reactor, heat exchanger and pumps a commercial peripheral 1/4CV. Heating was affected by flame gas, and both flow with temperature and pressure were monitored. The reactor was manufactured resulting in a volume of 687.22 mL. The experimental evaluation of the system was carried out by introducing animal fat, which was extracted from tallow by two techniques, plates and autoclave techniques in order to investigate the best performance. The autoclave was more significant (75.7%). Thereafter, the biofuels synthesis was performed in the system, initially with the method of hidroesterification, in which one cannot observe operating line of the system, the reactor outlet connection, since these were broken due to formation of steam internally, causing returning the mixture heated for connecting to peripheral pump. Was expected reach 260 °C temperature and 3bar pressure, without success. A second attempt was carried out in order to achieve 2bar to 200 ºC, but at 157 ºC was new line of reflux. Given this fact, the system was modified between the reactor and the heat exchanger in order to hold a thermo catalytic cracking using two types of catalysts, independently, calcium carbonate and nickel ferrite. Adopted the ratio of 1:10 catalyst/fat injected into the system, ambient pressure and temperature above 600 °C. This method showed good run for the idealized system, but still needs to be improved since the yield of bio-oil was lower than that cited in the literature. Comparing the synthesis of the catalysts as calcium carbonate bio-oil obtained better yield (49.51%), acidity index (1.45 mgKOH/g), however the thermal profile suggested greater presence of fatty acids combined, diacilglicerídeos and triacilgerídeos molecules. Already with nickel ferrite had lower yield (32.22%), higher acidity index (5.36 mgKOH /g) and ix characteristic thermal profile of just one thermal decomposition suggesting a better catalytic action. Both bio-oils had acidity index above the standard of the ANP.

Biodiesel is a fuel which has been extensively studied over the years, but there are still many problems involving the production processes and also the raw materials used. Thus, the present work aims to study a process that has presented interesting features in terms of energy and cost, even though it has still been understudied, and in addition, seeks to employ the crambe oil, an oil that is not used in the food chain and has considerable advantages in the biofuel production. The hydroesterification is a process which involves two steps, first being a hydrolysis process and the second an oil esterification of the hydrolyzed oil. In this work a central composite rotational design (DCCR) 2³ was employed to study the following variables: temperature, water/oil molar ratio content and yield of catalyst in the content of fatty acids through the enzymatic hydrolysis of crambe oil. The enzyme used in this study was the commercial lipase Lypozyme RM IM. The planning results showed that the optimum conditions were achieved in the studied limits and thus additional experiments were made necessary to reach the conclusion that the ideal reaction temperature is 60°C. The molar ratio between water and oil was not significant for the planning, which is probably due to the fact that the conditions studied were of excess water, to ensure that the reaction occurred until the end. The content of the catalyst was the most significant factor and to optimize the use of catalyst in the reaction a new 2² design was conducted to evaluate the effects of rotation level and catalyst content. Rotation level was the most significant effect, demonstrating thereby that the external mass transfer is an important factor in the enzymatic hydrolysis reaction of crambe oil. Experimental data of the kinetic study of the enzymatic hydrolysis of crambe oil was obtained under conditions of 2.2 mass percentage of total substrate, water/oil molar ratio of 10:1, level of rotation of 790 rpm at temperatures of 50°C, 55°C and 60°C. A mathematical model found in available literature was used to describe the data. The enzymatic hydrolysis reaction reached a good conversion into free fatty acids, reaching 77%. The esterification reaction was carried out using free fatty acids obtained from the hydrolysis optimum condition, under 5% mass percentage of Amberlyst 15® catalyst, methanol/oil molar ratio of 30:1, at temperatures of 65 °C and 80 °C during 4 hours of reaction, and the best result obtained was a 49% of conversion of methyl esters. Although the end result of the work did not achieved a high conversion into esters, the results established trends to be used in future works as it was observed that the process of hydroesterification is promising since it enables the use of unrefined raw materials and mild conditions, resulting in lower production costs for biodiesel.

The transesterification (alcoholysis) of oils and fats is the route most used in biodiesel synthesis, resulting in high yields in a reduced reaction period. An alternative route for the synthesis of biodiesel is the hydroesterification process that consists of the hydrolysis of vegetable oil (triglyceride), purification of the formed free fatty acids (FFA), followed by esterification with ethanol, resulting in high quality products and co-products. This dissertation aimed to study the synthesis of biodiesel by transesterification and hydroesterification of soybean and macaw palm kern oils with ethanol, catalyzed by lipase of dormant seeds of castor bean crude extract (CBCE) in solvent-free media. It was studied and defined as the best protocol for preparing CBCE the incubation in acetone 4 °C for 4 hours with no subsequent washings with acetone. The CBCE showed a high catalytic activity of the enzyme extract in hydrolysis reactions in acid medium (pH 4.5). However, no activities were bserved in esterification and transesterification reactions, possibly due to the low stability in the presence of organic solvents and alcohols. The CBCE showed low stability at temperatures higher than ambient temperatures. The complete conversion of soybean oil in the hydrolysis was reached after 6 h of reaction, in the absence of salt, 37 °C, 1,000 rpm, 4% w/v CBCE. Under the same conditions, it reached up to 90% conversion of macaw palm oil. Subsequently, the kinetic study of soybean oil hydrolysis catalyzed by CBCE was carried, studying the influence of the catalyst and substrate concentration on the initial rates of the reaction; and temperature influence throughout the reaction. Using 1% w/v CBCE, the highest initial reaction rate was obtained for the oil concentration of 147 mM (128.2 g/L oil). For higher substrate concentrations, a decrease of reaction speed was observed, indicating a decrease in enzyme activity under these conditions. The kinetic model of Michaelis-Menten with the substrate inhibition adequately fitted the experimental data (R² = 0.96). The estimated values for the kinetic parameters were: Vmax (2.85 ± 0.75 mM / min), KM (182.95 ± 65.80 mM) and KI (217.23 ± 95.34 mM). These results reveal a promising application of CBCE as robust biocatalyst in the hydrolysis of oils for the production of concentrated FFA. Since CBCE does not catalyze esterification reaction, the FFA obtained in the hydrolysis were purified and used for the synthesis of ethyl esters in solvent-free media, using the lipase of Thermomyces lanuginosus (TLL) covalently immobilized in epoxy resin as biocatalyst. The maximum ester conversion reached (85%) was obtained after 2 hours of reaction when soybean FFA was used as substrate; and 71% for macaw palm FFA after 6 hours of reaction. The low thermal stability of the CBCE motivated the castor bean lipase purification, aiming subsequent enzyme immobilization. Immobilization allows reuse of enzymes and an increase in its stability, depending on the strategy used. The lipase extraction assays at different pHs showed a maximum selectivity for the 50 mM sodium citrate buffer, pH 4.0 and a maximum yield for the 50 mM sodium phosphate buffer, pH 7.0. Adsorption experiments on hydrophobic and ionic supports were performed. Preliminary results showed that the castor bean lipase was strongly adsorbed on supports activated with amino groups (83%), where hydrolytic activity was observed both in derivatives as well in the supernatants containing the desorbed lipase.

This study aimed to investigate the synthesis of biodiesel from frying oil through the hydroesterification reaction, using as heterogeneous catalytic support – vermiculite. Both the biodiesel obtained and the raw material (frying oil) were characterized by physical-chemical, thermal and absorption spectrophotometry in the UV-Visible region for better understanding. The synthesis of biodiesel by hydroesterification involved two steps: hydrolysis and esterification, whereby the residual frying oil was subjected to the step of hydrolysis in an autoclave reactor at a temperature of 300 ° C for 03 hours. After the hydrolysis, the glycerin was removed and the fatty acids generated were subjected to the esterification step and processed under the following conditions: 6: 1 molar ratio of the ethyl alcohol / fatty acid in the presence of 5% of the catalyst (vermiculite) relative to the mass of the oil. Subsequently, the mixture was subjected to the stirring process and transferred to the autoclave reactor at 200°C for 01 hour. After that, the mixture was decanted for 2 hours and the phases were separated. The dense phase – biodiesel – was characterized according to the standards of the National Agency for Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuel. Thus, the reaction yield in relation to the initial mass of the residual frying oil for biodiesel was 66.65%. It is suggested that this yield was compromised by the acidity of the obtained biodiesel (0.61mg KOH/g), contributing to the release of the free fatty acids in the medium. Regarding the thermal study, the thermogravimetric curves showed that biodiesel is more volatile compared to the frying oil and presented two stages of decomposition: the first probably corresponding to the ethyl ester volatilization, with 83.1% of mass loss, indicating the conversion to monoacylglycerides; and the second stage with 14.3% of mass loss, attributed to the presence of diacylglyceride and/or triacylglyceride traces not converted to esters of ethyl fatty acids. The absorption spectra in the infrared region confirmed the presence of the strongly acidic fatty acid esters of 1749.7 cm-1; however, the presence of medium-sized vibrational band, corresponding to OH group stretching, is also present at 3600 to 3300cm-1, corroborating the thermal and physicochemical profile, confirming the presence of moisture and/or total nonconversion of glyceride hydrolysis. Finally, according to the results presented, this study proved to be feasible in terms of conversion, although it requires further investigation, manipulating the reactional conditions.
