The Wim Hof Methods Effect on Heart Rate Variability and Subjective Well-Being

Hallenberg, Karl January 2022 (has links)
The Wim Hof Method (WHM) is a contemporary combination of techniques including a breathing exercise, mindset and cold exposure. Interest in the method has blossomed in recent years as scientific studies has presented promising results on the methods impact on the autonomic nervous system (ANS) as well as the immune system. However, although biological factors have been demonstrated as a result of the method, psychological measures are lacking. In this study Subjective Well Being (SWB) was measured which refers to psychological attributes such as happiness, fulfilment and enrichment. As a biological marker Heart Rate Variability (HRV) was measured as it is theorised to be an indirect measure of the ANS which in turn often have been associated to reflect mental health. Measures of SWB and HRV were assessed pre- and post-intervention. Thirty-two participants met the inclusion criteria and were randomised into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group was asked to do 10 days of WHM home practice after an initial introductory training. Meanwhile the control group were asked to live life as usual. Twenty-six participants completed the post assessments, and the collected data were analysed across time. It was found that participants in the intervention group reported a significant decrease in negative affect from pre-intervention to post-intervention in comparison to those in the control group. The present study adds to the existing research on the WHM by assessing new measures that reflect psychological well-being, namely SWB and HRV.

Der Fluyten Lust-Hof : En undersökning av Jacob van Eycks variationskonst

Petersson, Alicia January 2022 (has links)
This essay investigates the Dutch composer Jacob van Eycks work Der Fluyten Lust-hof and the style of diminution which is used within the work. Previous works about Jacob van Eyck, such as Jacob van Eyck’s Der Fluyten Lust-Hof by Ruth van Baak Griffioen and Jacob van Eyck and the others by Thiemo Wind, as well as my own studies of the work are consulted in the studying of van Eycks variation style. This culminated in seven variations of the Swedish psalm Den blomstertid nu kommer written by my own hand in Jacob van Eycks iconic style. Throughout this work I have gained a better understanding about van Eycks life, his diminution technique as well as achieved a freer interpretation and stylistic confidence when preforming van Eycks music. /
Alicia Petersson (1998-)

Kliewer, Mario 28 January 2020 (has links)

An Inquiry On Bourgeois Conception Of Social Housing Program For Working-class: Karl Marx Hof In Vienna

Sudas, Ilknur 01 November 2011 (has links) (PDF)
This thesis focuses on the architectural production of Red Vienna in 1920s to examine the bourgeois conception of social housing program in a governmental socialist understanding of housing. Having a structural transformation through the First World War, Vienna became the enclave of Socialist Democrat Party and thereafter underwent radical housing and cultural transformative programs. Within these programs, it was intended to give the working-class the accurate social position by means of provided accessibility to their own private and public spheres. Among a wide range of housing examples built during the governance of the party, Karl Marx Hof, one of the largest projects, has been chosen to examine the reflections of bourgeois conception of culture. Based on the contradictory discourse and practices in political, architectural and cultural realms, the aim of the research is to redefine the privacy of the dwellings and the public qualities of the common spaces and thereafter to situate the proletarian housing in relation to bourgeois spatial values within the history of domestic space in Vienna.
