Work and family lifeMordecai, A. January 1976 (has links)
The research carried out looks at the interaction within and between four independent variables: Social Class, Organisation in which the subjects worked, Sex and Unconscious Sexual Identity of husbands and wives of stable families. These variables are related to Work, Spouses and Children. The 12 dependent variables are the dimensions which seem the most relevant to coding the individual's identity or subjective character. They are Affiliation, Aggression, Autonomy, Dominance, Identification, Nurturance, Responsibility, Security, Self-Confidence, Sharing and Succourance. Forty couples are divided into four groups: Male/female; Middle-class/Working-class; entrepreneurial/bureaucratic; masculine/feminine. Data collection includes a projective-semi-structured questionnaire, an unstructured test requiring subjects-to draw and a demographic questionnaire. The results reveal that husbands have significantly higher scores than wives on Achievement, Dominance, Responsibility and Security, and significantly lower scores oil Autonomy, Identification, Nurturance and Self-Confidence. Subjects in the Middle class make significantly more references than those in the working class to Achievement, Autonomy, Dominance, Identification, Self-Confidence and Sharing, and significantly less references to Affiliation, Aggression and Security. Entrepreneurs have significantly higher scores than bureaucrats on Achievement, Autonomy, Dominance, Responsibility and Self-Confidence and significantly lower scores on Affiliation, Security, Nurturance and Succourance. Subjects who come within the masculine range as measured by the Franck Test, make significantly more references than those who come within the feminine range to Aggression and Dominance, and significantly less references to Affiliation, Nurturance, Self-Confidence, Sharing and Succourance. There is a significant inter-action between Social Class and Organisation on Aggression, Autonomy, Dominance, Nurturance, Self-Confidence and Sharing. There is significant interaction between Sex and Unconscious Sexual Identity on Affiliation, Aggression, Autonomy, Identification and Self-Confidence. There is also a significant interaction between Sex and Social Class on Achievement, Aggression and Security.

Ego Identity Status and ConformityHoffman, Joseph J. 01 May 1982 (has links)
The relationship between the Eriksonian concept of ego identity status and the social process of conformity was investigated. Ego identity status was measured by the Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status (OM-EIS) (Adams, Shea, and Fitch, 1979). A total of 87 subjects were categorized into one of the four ego identity status groups: Diffusion, Foreclosure, Moratorium, and Identity Achievement. Conformity was measured by peer ratings, and experimental task, and by three self-report personality measures. Two of the conformity measures supported the main hypothesis that those in the less mature ego identity statuses (Diffusion and Foreclosure) would demonstrate the most conformity behavior. More specifically, peers rated males in the Diffusion and Foreclosure statuses as more conforming, and wales and females in the Diffusion status rated themselves as more conforming on a peer pressure conformity self-report. In light of these results, the relationship between conformity and ego identity status is discussed.

The aim of the thesis has been to analyse the book ‘The Whole Story of Half a Girl’ from the perspective of James Marcia’s identity theory and Peter Berger’s modernisation theory. The analysis focuses on 11-year-old Sonia's description of her upbringing with parents of two different religious faiths as a depiction of identity development. The research questions were as follows: - How can the portrayal of Sonia’s reflections about her identity in the book ‘The Whole Story of Half a Girl’ be understood based on James Marcia’s theory of identity status, particularly in relation to Marcia’s description of the developmental positions of moratorium and identity achievement? - How can the portrayal of Sonia’s reflections about her identity in the book ‘The Whole Story of Half a Girl’ be understood based on Peter Berger’s description of modern identity, particularly in relation to Berger’s description of relative openness and differentiation? The study was conducted using qualitative thematic analysis with an deductive approach. The conclusions show that the portrayal of Sonia in the book ‘The Whole Story of Half a Girl’ corresponds to the identity position of moratorium in James Marcia's theory of identity status. Peter Berger's theory of modern identity, on a more general level can create an understanding of the difficulty, but also risk, it can mean for Sonia's identity development in relation to her parents’ different religious faiths and backgrounds. The whole story of half a girl (Hiranandani 2012).
