TOWARDS A DEFINITION OF ANTONIN RAYMOND'S "ARCHITECTURAL IDENTITY" : A STUDY BASED ON THE ARCHITECT'S WAY OF THINKING AND WAY OF DESIGN / アントニン・レーモンドの建築的アイデンティティの解読 : 建築家の思考方法と設計方法の研究 / アントニン レーモンド ノ ケンチクテキ アイデンティティ ノ カイドク : ケンチクカ ノ シコウ ホウホウ ト セッケイ ホウホウ ノ ケンキュウ

GLOAGUEN, Yola 24 March 2008 (has links)
This thesis presents a study on the way of thinking and way of design of the Czech born architect Antonin Raymond (1888-1976). The data used for this study was a series of lectures and articles written by Raymond between 1935 and 1967 and original architectural drawings and photographs. These documents were all collected personally by the author at Raymond’s former studio in Karuizawa and Architectural Office in Tokyo. These documents provide a new source of information on Raymond’s residential work and have been compiled in an electronic database available with the thesis. The database includes architectural drawings, original and contemporary photographs, and general information on a majority of the residential works designed by Raymond between 1920 and 1938. The aim of this thesis is to answer the following question: what is the core quality or concept that identifies a work of architecture as Raymond’s? In order to answer this question, the thesis presents a study on the identity of Antonin Raymond as an architect, which the author has chosen to refer to as “Architectural Identity”. The essential quality of Raymond’s “Architectural Identity” is defined through the study of the architect’s way of thinking, way of design, and the relationship between the two. These three elements are considered by the author as the three components of “Architectural Identity”. For the study of Raymond’s way of design, the thesis focuses on one residential project, which is Raymond’s own summer house, built in Karuizawa in 1933.

Tree House - Příbytky v korunách stromů

Kubíček, Miroslav January 2016 (has links)
Theoretical part of the project is comprehensive summary which shows the basic problematics of treehouses and their build-up. It also points to the quality of the build-up by which should be the construction made. The practical part represents a real project of holiday property on specific place set by client. One of the main problem during the creation of the project was to face the treehouse to the perfect valley-view. The benefits of the project are simplicity and possibility to use the treehouse during the winter time. Client had no visual request in advance.

Staging Privacy: Art and Architecture of the Palazzo Medici / Art and Architecture of the Palazzo Medici

Bailie, Lindsey Leigh 12 1900 (has links)
xii, 112 p. : ill. (some col.) A print copy of this thesis is available through the UO Libraries. Search the library catalog for the location and call number. / The Palazzo Medici was a site of significant social and political representation for the Medici. Access to much of the interior was limited, ostensibly, to the family. In republican Florence, however, visitors were a crucial component in the maintenance of a political faction. Consequently, the "private" spaces of the Palazzo Medici were designed and decorated with guests in mind. Visitor accounts reveal that the path and destination of each visitor differed according to his status and significance to the family. The common citizen waited, sometimes for great lengths, in the courtyard, taking in the anti-tyrannical message of the space. The privileged guest, who had more to provide the Medici, was given access to the more private spaces of the residence. Surrounded by art and architecture that demonstrated the faith, education, and wealth of the Medici, he was assured that his support of the family was beneficial to his own pursuits. / Committee in charge: James Harper, Chairperson; Jim Tice, Member; Jeff Hurwit, Member

A clareira da casa-pátio

Silva, Enilton Braga da January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation arose out of the inquiry concerning to the architectonic residential archetype of the courtyard house, which is configured by an empty area in the habitation, a confined, protected and occult space. This enclosed inner courtyard, with its subtle yet rich features, gives it a unique ambience with a peculiar atmosphere. This investigation was originated from the author’s experience, as an architectural intern, in a house located in Porto Alegre, built in the 1970s, by the architect Elyseu Victor Mascarello (1935-2008). Mascarello graduated in 1958, from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, where he had been a student of the first academic teachers of the institution. The investigation consolidates the author's search for an understanding of what was at stake in the clearing of the residence, what were the active elements, and whether there would be a way of miming that condition into new projects or into other situations. The identification of the internal courtyard as a clearing in the house and its metaphorical relation, with the Heideggerian concept of the clearing of being (Lichtung), leads the research to the investigation of phenomenology, according to Heidegger's view, relating the existential philosophical clearing to the physical domestic clearing. Under these conditions, the clearing of Mascarello’s courtyard house becomes the central focus of the research, aiming to find the existing nuances, which configures and enhances the clearing. Heidegger's clearing is defined and related to the sacred, existential house. Within the domestic scope, other examples of clearing typologies in courtyard houses are unveiled, analyzing their potential for clearings. This work thus aims to shed a new light on the house with internal courtyard, under the aegis of the conceptual ancestry of the house, analyzing the created microcosm, the presence of nature and of the cosmos in different courtyard house typologies.

The main aim with this doctor degree paper is to show how the discourse employed in ‘house organs’ of Brazilian companies is interposed by different discursive strategies which are generated by the employer to the employees, looking for reaching organizational targets.
