Blue Horses and Illuminating the Shadow : a novel manuscript and exegesis

Bongers, Christine Mary January 2008 (has links)
The novel manuscript Blue Horses (published as Dust, by Random House Australia under its Woolshed Press Imprint, July 2009) focuses on a dusty corner of 1970’s Queensland in this evocative tale of family, shadows that hang over from childhood and beauty found in unexpected places. Its protagonist, Cecilia Maria, was named after saints and martyrs to give her something to live up to. “Over my dead body,” she vows. Her battles with a six-pack of brothers and the despised Kapernicke girls from the farm next door teach her an unforgettable lesson that echoes down through the years. Now she’s heading back to where it all began, with teenagers Jed and Jenna reluctantly in tow. She plans to dance on a grave and track down some ghosts. Instead she learns a new lesson at the gravesite of an old enemy. The exegesis examines Jung’s concept of the Shadow Archetype as a catalyst for individuation in writing for young adults. It discusses the need to re-vision Jung’s work within a feminist framework and contrasts it to Julia Kristeva’s work on the abject. Alyssa Brugman’s Walking Naked and Sonya Hartnett’s Sleeping Dogs are analysed in relation to these concepts and lead into my own creative reflections on, and justification for, use of the Shadow conceptual framework. In following my shadow and establishing a creative dialogue between my conscious intent and unconscious inspirations, I have discovered a writing self that is “other” to the professional writer persona of my past.

Interplay - a visual exploration of the processes of individuation

Gorst, Beth Jo-Ann January 2009 (has links)
This project is an exploration, through art making processes, of a relationship between the interpretation of symbols and the interpretation of everyday life experiences, with a view to evolving a metaphorical visual language that might translate these experiences. Individuation is a process within Jungian psychology that relates the interpretation of symbols to the interpretation of life experiences and places their common meanings within a definitive framework of individual human development. The archetypal pattern that this framework outlines is the development of a healthy relationship between an individual’s consciousness and the unconscious. The word metaphor originates from Greek metapherein – “to carry over, transfer; meta` beyond, over + fe`rein to bring, bear. It is the transference of the relation between one set of objects to another set for the purpose of brief explanation… the statement “that man is a fox,” is a metaphor” (Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary, 2008) Due to its particular relationship to time, space, memory and light photography has proven to be an ideal way to engage, record, and present this exploration. Our personal photographs operate as visual metaphors for our personal experience, we transfer the experience into the photograph, we consider the photograph is that moment in time, that place, that experience, rather than being like that experience. The interpretation of personal photographs is entirely individual and emotional. When photographs are placed into the public arena their emotional value changes, their interpretation, purpose, and authenticity can become questionable. In this project the experience and the photographs are placed within the context of individuation, which is a model that guides the interpretation of the photographs and include the individual and emotional values as a necessary part of that interpretation. In this project the symbols and visual metaphors interpreted in the photographs operate as a narrative of the personal experience of the archetypal journey of individuation.

Luminescência : o processo do ator como experiência corporificada do arquétipo-herói / Luminescence : the actor’s process as embodied experience of the hero-archetype

Aguiar, Franciele Machado de January 2015 (has links)
Compreender criando – eis o percurso. / Understand through creating – behold the path. Making use of the archetypes theory of Carl G. Jung’s analytical psychology and the studies of the imaginary, the research intends to establish relations between the procedures for creation of the actor and the concepts of mitopoese, symbol and archetype, in order to find possible links between the creative process and the aspects that characterize the manifestation of the archetypal image of the hero. The mythologies founded from that archetype express the search of a creative relationship with the power of unconscious images, a formative journey, a procedural model. This path is directed to the experience of the totality of being, the act of integrating the self designated by jungian analytical psychology as individuation. According to Grotowski’s conceptions, the creation process involves similar experiences of self-knowledge and totality. Could it be understood as a process of individuation? Proposing to revisit and rebuild the creative journey of the theatrical performance A mulher de Putifar to investigate its relationship to issues raised by the survey and to problematize the work on oneself and the dramaturgy of actor, this study examines the possibility to make scenic image of the journey of the hero. Becoming mythopoetic journey, the creation process finds in the relationship with images an active knowledge, in which the emergence of consciousness becomes a dramaturgy on oneself with the intention of reading oneself.

By searching the solution for this question, we have mainly based on the thesis of Gilbert Simondon, a French philosopher, The Individuation under the Light of Notions about Shape and Information (1958), which along with the comprehension about his concepts, sought in natural sciences like inequality, meta stability and transduction. That permitted not only to understand the individual from his individuation process, but also to realize an occurring reality that antecedes it a reality that Simondon himself called pre individual. Moreover, since Simondon show us that the being is never to individuate himself, that pre-individual reality both coexists with the individual and will be his genesis. This point in Simondon s philosophy will make possible for us to answer our own questions. Would the individuation processes not be distinguishing processes, too? In case affirmative, would these singularization processes not be a deindividuation, too? In order to answer our own questions, we have performed, face to Simondon s proposal surveys about the philosophy of difference proposed by the French philosopher Gilles Deleuze and the psychoanalyst Felis Guattari, and by Deleuze s comments about Simondon s philosophy. We have permitted ourselves, therefore, to perform an approach to education, which led us, not only to propose a new manner of understanding education, but also rethinking its practices. For that, we have had to delimitate a theoretical field made up by so many other surveys and texts, which could approximate to what we have performed, that is, which worked out with Simondon, the philosophy of difference and education.

It searched to interpret the experiences strengthened during the school education and the trajectories of confrontation of the diverse situations lived in the school. It was tried, also,to understand the direction of the critical school events and equally as the familiar way can influence in the choices and formation of the citizens through the pedagogical investment. Furthermore, it was reflected on the reasons that had taken some to remain in the school environment are as student or, later, of the side of there ,as teacher. For in such a way, it realized a qualitative research with a phenomenological inspiration using narratives interviews carried with four subjects, from which if it identified the main characteristics, structure, conditions of origin, the social context, the school strategies, the forms as they had been managed and its consequences. The analysis of the stories clearly left two basic axles about the school experience that if detach in the constitution of the subjects: in a hand, the dynamics of the lived school environment left undeleted marks in the memory that had been determinative for the personal choices; on the other hand, the familiar reference, through its different forms of pedagogical investment, had a decisive influence. The agreed marks of the school and the family had left an important legacy for formation of the subjects and the choices that had made during their lives, especially in the aiming of its professional careers. Invariably, it was perceived in the inquiry, that much of the pupil who if was persists in the adult and professional of today. Thus, the school I it s part of professional I that it exists in each one. The citizen, the person and the professional are derived from the processes of socialization and individuation, which to a large extent are defined during the school life.
