QCD analysis of deep inelastic lepton-hadron scattering in the region of small values of the Bjorken parameter x

Staśto, Anna January 1999 (has links)
We present the new framework based on BFKL and DGLAP evolution equations in which the leading in(Q(_2)) and in(l/x) terms are treated on equal footing. We introduce a pair of coupled integro-difFerential equations for the quark singlet and the unintegrated gluon distribution. The observable structure functions are calculated using high energy factorisation approach. We also include the sub-leading in (l/x) effects via consistency constraint. We argue that the use of this constraint leads to more stable solution to the Pomeron intercept than that based on the NLO calculation of the BFKL equation alone and generates resummation to all orders of the major part of the subleading in (l/x) effects. The global fit to all available deep inelastic data is performed using a simple parametrisation of the non-perturbative region. We also present the results for the longitudinal structure function and the charm component of the F(_2) structure function. Next; we extend this approach to the low Q(^2) domain. At small distances we use the perturbative approach based on the unified BFKL/DGLAP equations and for large distances we use Vector Meson Dominance Model and, for the higher mass qq states, the additive quark approach. We show the results for the total cross section and for the ratio of the longitudinal and transverse structure functions. Finally, we calculate the dijet production and consider the decorrelation effects in the azimuthal distributions caused by the diffusion in the transverse momentum k(_r) of the exchanged gluon. Using the gluon distribution which is fixed by the fit to the DIS data we are able to make absolute predictions. We show the results for the dF(_r)/dɸ, the total cross section and also the distributions in Q(^2) as well as in the longitudinal momentum fraction of the gluon. Our theoretical predictions are confronted with the measurements made using ZEUS detector at HERA.

Efeitos de canais inelásticos no transporte eletrônico: um exemplo além do formalismo de Landauer / Effects of inelastic channels in electronic transport: an example beyond the Landauer formalism

Penha, Felipe Campos 06 December 2012 (has links)
In this work, we study the influence of inelastic scattering channels in electronic transport. We first present the usual Landauer formalism, for calculating the electric current in systems where the scattering is purely elastic. As an example, we calculate the current for a Dirac delta potential from its transmission probabilities. The corresponding sample is that of a very thin layer with (non-magnetic) impurities within a semiconductor heterostructure. We show that the distortion of the quantum potential due to the applied voltage can be ignored in the calculation of an electric current below the Fermi energy of the emitter. Then we couple the delta potential to a quantum harmonic oscillator to model the presence of phonons in the system. We find inelastic transmission modes that become available for increasing energies, multiple of the quantum hω. Due to conservation of probability, the opening of each new channel corresponds to kinks\" in the transmission probabilities of lower modes as a function of the energy of the impinging electrons. In the case of an attractive delta potential, asymmetric resonances with a Fano-like profile are observed. We adapt the Landauer formalism by including the independent inelastic channels. Following a previous work by Emberly and Kirczenow (2000), we show that there is a way to take into account the possible coincidences in the final scattering states using Pauli\'s exclusion principle. This causes the distributions of the scattering states to be out of equilibrium, as they depend on each other. Solving the problem self-consistently, we are able to obtain the electric current from the transmission probabilities of the quantum potential. Our results demonstrate that the Fano resonances of the attractive potential gives rise to a decrease of the slope in the electric current versus the applied voltage, as the electrons are trapped\" in the potential for a finite amount of time. We have shown this effect in a low voltage regime with respect to the Fermi energy, for which we ignore the distortion of the quantum potential due to the applied voltage. Furthermore, a comparison with the results from the Landauer formalism shows that a significant discrepancy is seen for the oscillator initially in its excited mode and strongly coupled to the electron.

Measurement of the proton structure function FL(x,Q2) with the H1 detector at HERA

Piec, Sebastian 14 October 2010 (has links)
A measurement of the inclusive cross section for the deep-inelastic scattering of positrons on protons at low four-momentum transfer squared Q2 is presented. The measurement is used for the extraction of the longitudinal proton structure function FL. The analysis is based on data collected by the H1 experiment during special, low energy runs in the year 2007. The direct technique of the FL determination based on the extraction of the reduced DIS cross sections for three different centre-of-mass energies is used. For the purpose of the analysis a dedicated electron finder has been developed and integrated with the standard H1 reconstruction software H1REC. The algorithm employs information from two independent tracking detectors the Backward Silicon Tracker and the Central Jet Chamber. The performance of the finder is studied. The thesis presents the cross section and the FL measurements in the range of 2.5 GeV2 < Q2 < 25 GeV2.

Estudo da reação 10B+120Sn em energias em torno da barreira Coulombiana utilizando diferentes técnicas experimentais / Study of 10B+120Sn reaction at energy around Coulomb barrier using different experimental techniques

Freitas, André de Sousa 09 May 2018 (has links)
The 10B+120Sn reaction was measured at the \"Laboratório Aberto de Física Nuclear\" (LAFN, acronym in Portuguese) of the \"Instituto de Física da Universidade de São Paulo\", at energies around the Coulomb barrier (VB = 35 MeV). Angular distribuitions for the elastic and inelastic scattering were obtained, and the transfer channel of a neutron from the target to the projectile was also identified. Besides that, another set of measurements were carried out using the gamma-particle coincidence techinique with the ancillary system of scintillators and gamma-ray detectors Saci-Perere (acronym of \"Sistema Ancilar de Cintiladores e Pequeno Espectrômetro de Radiação Eletromagnética com Rejeição de Espalhamento\"). Such measurements have allowed the identification of the complete fusion process through the detection of gamma-rays coming from the compound nuclei 127Cs, formed by the absorption of the total projectile charge by the target, followed by the evaporation of neutrons. Events related to the incomplete fusion process, originated from the breakup of 10B, were also identified. A theoretical description of the main experimental results has been performed within the coupled channel formalism, using the São Paulo potential to represent the real part of the nuclear interaction between the two reacting nuclei.

Estudos dos parâmetros de deformação dos isótopos 24Mg, 30Mg e 32Mg / Studies of the deformation parameters of the isotopes 24mg, 30mg and 32Mg

Chisté, Vanessa 06 October 1999 (has links)
The goal of this work is the study of the proton and neutron distributions and their deformations in the region of the island of inversion\". This region is situated between 10 Z 14 and 19 N 21and the neutron-rich nuclei of this \"island\" have an anomalus behaviour, being strongly deformed at the nentron magic number N=20. The charge and matter deformation parameters of 24Mg 30Mg e 32Mg were measured in an experiment realized at the GANIL Labo-ratory, Caen, Francel through the inelastic scattering the Mg secondary beams . The 36S pri-mary beam at 77 MeV/nucleon produced the 24,30,32Mg secondary at 37 MeV/nucleon through projectile fragmentation on a 12C production target. The secondary beam was analysed in the LISE spectrometer. The deformation parameters were extracted from the cross section of the Mg projectile to its 2+ first excited state. A 208Pb target was used to measure the Coulomb de-formation and a 12C target for the nuclear deformation. The deformation parameters were obtained from the comparision between the experimental excitation cross sedion and the calculated through a coupled channels code ECIS. The Coulomb and nuclear deformation pa-rameters of the 24Mg determined in this study are very close to the adopted values. The deformation parameters of 30Mg are large and nearly equal, showing tha.t this nucleus is also strongly deformed. For the 32Mg, which has lately attracted much attention, the deformation parameters are much larger than predicted by theoretical models and are also equal.

Neutron Scattering at 96 MeV

Öhrn, Angelica January 2008 (has links)
Data on elastic scattering of 96 MeV neutrons from 56Fe, 89Y and 208Pb in the angular interval 10-70° are presented. The previously published data on 208Pb have been extended, as a new method has been developed to obtain additional information at the most forward angles. The results are compared with phenomenological and microscopic optical potentials. The theory predictions are in general in good agreement with the experimental data. A study of the deviation of the zero-degree cross section from Wick's limit has been performed. The data on 208Pb are in agreement with Wick's limit, while those on lighter nuclei overshoot the limit significantly. A novel analysis method has been developed to obtain the inelastic neutron emission cross sections from the existing 56Fe data. The method is based on folding a trial spectrum with the response of the detector setup. The data cover the angular interval 26-65° and an excitation energy range of 0-45 MeV, ranges hitherto not studied. The results are compared with nuclear model predictions and found to be in good agreement with the experimental data.
