Leading Innovators in Large Organisations : Enablers and Barriers for Intrapreneurship / Ledning av innovatörer i stora företag : Förutsättningar och hinder för intraprenörskap

Ringård, Fredrik, Segerlund, Carl January 2014 (has links)
Innovation is considered by many to be a driver of organisational performance and growth. A key factor to consider for competitive edge is the utilization of the companies’ innovative capabilities. The bureaucracy often involved with large companies could limit the utilization of the inherent innovative ability and new business development. The commissioner for this study, a large Swedish multinational technology company, has in a previous study raised the importance of innovators to be properly recognised and rewarded. Moreover, they have identified a need to better identify, track and train their innovators in order to utilise their full potential. With this in mind, the research question, "How can the company’s innovative capabilities be further utilised?" was formulated. The research question was further complemented with sub-questions narrowing the field of study and allowed for a more systematic approach. Three methods were used in this study, interviews, a questionnaire and a workshop. The interviews were conducted in order to capture the company specific context and factors influencing the company’s innovators to verify and complement the literature study. Secondly, the questionnaire was done to add an additional perspective on the topic including quantitative data verifying the extent of the found factors and exploring their importance throughout the organisation. Finally, the aim of the workshop was to let innovators in the company form specific actions targeting the most pressing issues discovered from the questionnaire. The findings suggest recommendations regarding what obstacles that are most important to address, how to motivate innovation efforts, identify innovators and how to enhance the utilisation of the company’s innovative capabilities. The proposed actions from the workshop, concluding the preceding data collections were to implement a strategy facilitating innovation execution, create an incubation team supporting innovators in realising innovations, and to foster an experimental culture.

Důvody a proces vzniku alternativní školy z pohledu jejich zakladatelů / Reasons and process of creating an alternative school from the perspective of its founders

Bryanová, Kateřina January 2020 (has links)
The diploma thesis deals with the processes taking place in setting up alternative schools and reflects the founders'views on the start-up process as well as their satisfaction with the outcome. The theoretical part introduces the important alternative directions in education, brings forward the principles of how free and democratic schools work, presents some personalities associated with the educational alternative and briefly mentions selected platforms and concepts based on the principles of respect for the individual. The empirical part analyses interviews with the founders of five alternative schools on their reasons for setting up the school and their appreciation of the proces. The main techniques for data collection are in-depth semi-structured interviews. Given the research objective a qualitative approach inspired by phenomenological investigation and grounded theory was used and subsequently the card interpretation technique. There are several reasons for setting up alternative schools, the main one seems to be the need to provide current generation of children a school which would support their talents, gives them the individual approach and where their opinion would be respected. Other reasons include the need for freedom or the need to be professionally implemented. The process of setting up...

Beran, Aleš January 2013 (has links)
TITLE: Greek and Latin medical terminology instruction in programmes of general medicine at medical schools in the Czech Republic and abroad. AUTHOR: Aleš Beran DEPARTMENT: Department of Education SUPERVISOR: doc. PhDr. Miroslava Váňová, CSc. ABSTRACT: The thesis seeks to provide a systematic description of the Greek and Latin medical terminology instruction at Czech and foreign medical schools. Its main objective is to build a platform for implementations of instructional innovations. In the first part of the thesis the medical terminology instruction in the Czech Republic is contextualized by giving a historical overview of development of medical terminology and dealing with origins of its instruction at the Faculty of General Medicine in Prague. The view of a present state of the instruction is completed by a profile of a typical medical student, which is based on the questionnaire. The next part of the thesis consists of detailed content analyses of selected Czech and foreign textbooks and their comparison. Based upon these analyses, an original typology of instructional models is set up which can be considered to be the most important theoretical outcome of the thesis. The typology is subsequently used as a tool for description of teaching medical terminology in Austria, Germany, United States, Canada,...

The Impact of Technology Innovations in High School Biology Courses on Science Learning for Hmong Students

Xiong, Thai 01 January 2018 (has links)
Hmong high school students struggle in science courses and have difficulty using technology, leaving them behind other ethnic groups in science performance. There is lack of research regarding Hmong students' struggle in technology-focused science courses, especially regarding the experiences of Hmong students with using science technology and teachers' experiences with these students. This single case study was designed to explore how technology innovations in high school biology courses impact science learning for Hmong students based on Gu, Zhu, and Guo's technology acceptance model. Both Hmong student and science teacher interviews as well as reflective journal data were collected to better understand students' opinions regarding usefulness and ease-of-use of technology in high school biology courses. Course document data were collected to determine technology integrations in lessons. Participants selected from a public high school in the Midwestern region of the United States included 8 Hmong students and 2 teachers. Data were analyzed within unit analysis and line-by-line coding to construct codes, then through cross unit analysis to develop themes. Results indicate that technologies have a positive impact on Hmong student science learning and aligned to the technology acceptance model. Key findings included positive use of technology, usefulness of technology and ease of use, and evidence of technology integration. The results can be used by teachers to improve support to minority students who learn biology using educational and scientific technology. The use of technology contributes to positive social change to advance Hmong students' acceptance of technology and biology learning, as well as the advancement of education to support all learners.

Artificial Intelligence: From Data to Insights : Artificial Intelligence in Digital Transformation Strategies in the Semiconductor Industry

Bergh, Mikael, Strugholz, Sophie January 2023 (has links)
Emerging technologies are reshaping the digital landscape and competitive environment of highly technological companies with the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI). Firms are reacting by implementing digital transformation (DT) strategies aligning the organizational and technological factors towards leveraging AI-generated information. This thesis sheds new light on the topics of knowledge management (KM), DT, and AI in organizational practices with an emphasis on AI-enhanced software-as-a-service (SaaS). The research results in a conceptual framework, designed from the literature on AI, DT, KM, and dynamic capability view (DCV) uncovering three overarching concepts (internal capabilities, absorptive capacity, and technological competitiveness). This conceptual framework was then complemented by empirical data featuring primary data gathered from a single case study and secondary data from an internet-mediated data collection. The interviews in the case study were focused on managers with extensive experience in the semiconductor industry and operators working with the AI-enhanced SaaS tool. The analysis concludes in an updated conceptual framework, highlighting the interplay of a firm’s internal capabilities and an AI-enhanced absorptive capacity indicating three pathways toward achieving technological competitiveness in a highly technological environment. Additionally, a proposed solution is presented featuring an AI-enhanced tool operator as a new role, responsible for supporting organization-wide activities with AI-generated information.

Effects of Employees’ Extra-Role Behaviors on Organizational Performance: An Assessment of Minor League Baseball Team Front Offices

Smith, Natalie L., Barnhill, Christopher, Sung, Hojun 01 October 2020 (has links)
Global Alliance of Marketing and Management Associations (GAMMA). The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of employees’ extra-role behaviors on desired organizational outcomes in sport. An assessment of innovative work behaviors and organizational citizenship behaviors of Minor League Baseball team front office employees was conducted as organizations planned for an upcoming season. An empirical model controlling for extraneous factors was developed and tested. Results revealed organizational citizenship behaviors of front office employees positively affected attendance during the season for Triple-A and Double-A level franchises. No significant effects between employees’ organizational citizenship and team attendance was seen in lower level teams. Employees’ innovative work behaviors were not significantly related to team attendance. The current study indicates that these sport organizations may not be benefitting from the behaviors it celebrates in its employees, namely the extra role behaviors. This study has demonstrated that context specific factors can substantially alter expected employee and organizational behaviors.

Rural Parents Mental Health Service Delivery Preferences: Overcoming Barriers to Care.

Ellison, Jeffrey H. 17 August 2011 (has links) (PDF)
Unique barriers prevent parents in rural areas from seeking mental health services for their children. The implementation of innovative models of service delivery may reduce these barriers' impact on rural parents' treatment seeking. The purpose of this study was to determine: 1) parents' willingness to use innovative service delivery models; 2) barriers that parents perceive to seeking treatment in each of the 4 service delivery models, and; 3) the relationship between perceived barriers and willingness to seek help in the context of 4 service delivery models. Surveys were distributed to parents of children attending school in several counties in rural Appalachia. Results showed that parents perceived different barriers for different service models and that perceived barriers affected willingness differently depending on the model asked about. These results suggest that the use of innovative models (e.g., telehealth) may be acceptable in rural areas as alternatives to traditional mental health services.

Soprano takes the baton! / Hvað syngur í stjórnandanum?

Jóhannsdóttir, Ragnheiður Ingunn January 2023 (has links)
The topic of this artistic research project is the musical performance method where a solo singer conducts an orchestra while singing. The aim is to shine a light on the effect this performance practice has on the quality of the performance; if it hampers the singer’s ability to interpret the lyrics and make theatrical gestures or if the musical performance can possibly benefit from having one person singing and conducting. The core of the project is a concert in Reykjavík organised by this author where she performed as solo soprano and conductor with a chamber orchestra. The research was made from her personal perspective, while the views of instrumentalists also played a significant role. The author observed the internationally renowned soprano and conductor Barbara Hannigan as she rehearsed and performed a concert with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra (ISO) at the Reykjavík Arts Festival. For this project the writer enjoyed the cooperation of three composers whom she commissioned to write pieces especially for her to sing and conduct, and together with Zerbinetta's grand aria by Richard Strauss this music was premiered by her and a chamber orchestra at her concert in Eldborg, Harpa at the Reykjavík Opera Days on November 5th, 2022. / <p>Soprano takes the baton!</p><p>In Eldborg, Harpa on November 5th, 2022 at the Reykjavík Opera Days festival finale.</p><p>Ragnheiður Ingunn Jóhannsdóttir, soprano and conductor.</p><p>Program:</p><p>Jóhann G.
