This study tried to understand how we construct the notion of citizenship in didactic books of History from the 1st to the 4 th series of Basic Education I. From the reading of theoretical studies about notion of citizenship and studying the didactic material, we understand the importance of thought of the notion of citizenship showed indidactic books of History. With this concern, we identify the two most used didactic collections in the schools of Campinas West Region, on which we look at more attentively. Our best research is on the possibilities and ways we have to relate on the nature of the participation. We start by justifying the value of the subject, strategic and relevant nowadays, and clarifying the ways we cover in the construction of the methodology, as well as our understanding on the subjects that involve our research, the notion of citizenship and the nature of the participation. We develop our reflection respecting the thematic proposals presented by the material, according to the PCNs, and reminding to the studies about notion of citizenship to see clearly all the possibilities. Finally, we brought some final considerations, with the care of not to forget that our walk involves the reading that we do, different from the others. We tried to show that, in spite of our slow steps, the transformations in the didactic material of History occurs, and the discussion that involves the construction of the notion of citizenship, cannot be considered finished. / Mestrado / Educação, Sociedade, Politica e Cultura / Mestre em Educação

The value of art-oriented pedagogical approaches to the teaching of optics and photonicsPompea, Stephen M., Regens, Nancy L. 16 August 2017 (has links)
Art-oriented pedagogical approaches have been successfully applied to optics and photonics education. We will describe how art-based programs that incorporate a Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) approach can be used by optics and photonics educators. VTS encourages both a deep appreciation of the content of optics images and phenomena and a highly participatory approach to understanding them. This type of approach has been used by the authors in a variety of educational settings including teacher professional development workshops, museum and science center-based programs, after school programs and in two-week intensive summer academies for students. These approaches work well with multiple age groups including primary and secondary grade students, university students, and adults who may have little apparent connection to optics and photonics. This art-science hybrid approach can be used by university professors, optics/ photonics professionals who do public programs, museum educators, and classroom science teachers.

Die benutting van tydskrifmateriaal as inligtingsbron in sekondêre skoolmediasentrumsVan Wyk, Linda 26 May 2014 (has links)
M.Com. (Library and Information Science) / In this study attention was given to the vast amount of information in periodicals which is not usually utilized in media centres. The popularity of periodicals amongst teenagers should be used to stimulate research in this relevant, updated medium which contains the most recent facts on such a wide range of topics. The promotion of magazines as a resource of information received attention and certain strategies to promote the utilisation of periodicals were suggested. The whole process of planning, budgeting and ordering of periodicals was looked at from the user's point of view, especially to 'satisfy the user's information needs. These information needs must first be established and thereafter the best medium must be obtained in order to satisfy them. A communication system was formulated by which teachers and pupils could be informed of the latest arrivals as well as the latest information on a specific topic. Secondly, a system was devised which can be used to analyse and index information from periodicals and keep it on record until it can be taken up in the catalogue, whether it is in pamphlet form, or as bound magazines. This way, no information from periodicals need be wasted or lost due to the lack of printed indexes in South Africa.

Die begeleidingstaak van die mediasentrumonderwyser in rekenaargeletterdheidJoubert, Petronella Johanna Maria 11 March 2014 (has links)
M.Ed. (Media Studies) / The twentieth century is characterised by technological development, and even more by electronic development. It is therefore logical that the computer is increasingly used in the labour market and at home. This puts greater pressure on schools to educate and train pupils to attain computer literacy. As it appears that teachers are insufficiently trained to convey these skills, there is a definite need for in-service training regarding computer literacy. The function and task of the media centre teacher are such that he is the most suitable person to present this in-service training. In-service training is non-formal and andragogically grounded. The presentation of in-service training must .therefore be based on specific principles. To be of any value it must be directed at the teacher's professional needs. These needs determine that in-service training may be presented from the macro-, meso- and microlevels. The direct involvement of the media centre teacher in computer literacy occurs at microlevel and it is indicated that In-service training and guidance are related matters. The computer, as an aid and a medium, has qualities which make it useful in education. Although the computer has many advantages as an educational medium, many didactitions object to its being regarded as a super medium. At present there are many limitations which curtail the maximal usage of the computer as an educational medium. The concept of computer literacy is non-static and differs from culture to culture and person to person; consequently a variety of knowledge and skills is needed for computer literacy. An effort has, however, been made to identify the generally valid knowledge and skills. A model of the guidance activity, as a teaching skill, has been applied to computer usage. The given reference framework and guidance activity are followed by guidelines for the media center teacher's androgenic guidance task regarding computer literacy.

The relationship between elementary classroom collections and the school library resource centre programDoiron , Ray 05 1900 (has links)
The school library resource centre and the collection of
trade books that classroom teachers gather in their
classrooms were the focus of an exploratory, descriptive
study designed around the first stages of an action research
model. Little research had been done on how effective
classroom teachers have been at acquiring trade books for
their classroom collections, and on how teacher-librarians,
working in partially or fully integrated school library
resource centre programs, helped make trade books accessible
to elementary teachers and students.
One instrument, The Survey of Elementary Classroom
Collections. was designed to examine four descriptive areas:
the contents and size of classroom collections, the source of
trade books for these collection, the organization and
management of classroom collections, and the use classroom
teachers make of these trade books. The 205 elementary
English language classroom teachers in one school district
were sent a Survey and 80% responded. The series of
interviews that followed were conducted with a stratified
random sample of 30 classroom teachers, nine principals and
seven teacher-librarians. The stratification was organized by
Phases 1, 2 or 3 of school library program development, which
were determined by the score on a second instrument. The Profile of School Library Resource Centre Programs. and from
information on staffing, resources and teacher-librarian
experience. Results were analyzed under the four areas
explored in the Survey, by grade level and by Phase.
A detailed description of the classroom collections led
to the development of the Independent, Interactive and
Integrated models for classroom collections. Each reflected a
different concept of the classroom collection, its role in
the literacy program and its relationship with the school
library resource centre program. Indications were that a
collaborative approach to trade book provisioning emerged in
schools where the school library resource centre program was
more fully integrated into the school curriculum. Details on
a school-based/district-wide strategy to build a
collaborative approach were given, as well as suggestions for
a plan of action for individual schools and for further
research to explore questions raised by this study. / Education, Faculty of / Language and Literacy Education (LLED), Department of / Graduate

A survey of student operation of audio-visual equipment in Florida schools with recommendationsUnknown Date (has links)
"The purposes of this study are: I. To survey, through the questionnaire method and through the examination of the literature in the field, the general practice of using student operators of audio-visual equipment. II. To determine the best method of using students as projectionists in relationship to the student as well as the service rendered the school. III. To produce a projectionist's manual for the use of students training to operate audio-visual equipment. It is realized that there are on the market several audio-visual operator's manuals; also those produced by commercial concerns to accompany various pieces of equipment, but through personal experience and the experience of others the writer feels that all of these manuals are too technical for use by elementary and high school students. Therefore the primary purpose of this study is to produce such a manual"--Introduction. / Typescript. / "March, 1949." / "Submitted to the Graduate Council of Florida State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts under Plan II." / Advisor: Louis Shores, Professor Directing Paper. / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 39-41).

Science Inquiry Kits And Teacher Preparedness To Teach Science As Inquiry In Elementary ClassroomsClayton, Angela 01 January 2009 (has links)
The National Science Education Standards (1996) indicate that science education should include inquiry instruction. Many teachers still struggle with how to implement inquiry in their classrooms and a lack of high quality inquiry-based instructional materials has been posited as a hindrance. The purpose of this qualitative study was to observe the instructional practices of three elementary teachers when using an inquiry-based science kit program in their fourth grade classrooms. Teacher practices and their attitudes towards their preparedness to teach science with the support of the curricular program were examined. Data were collected through pre/post survey comparisons, observations, and a focus group session. Results indicated that these teachers' attitudes were positively impacted. Teachers' access to science kits provided resources which facilitated more inquiry experiences with their students; however, resources alone did not fully address teacher science content needs.
