A Survey and Critical Analysis of the Preparation of Instrumental Music Teachers with the Recommendations for Altering the Curriculum and Content of the Courses

Marcellus, John 08 1900 (has links)
The problem and purpose of this study is to attempt to establish a reasonably accurate basis for planning a program of educating prospective public school instrumental music teachers that meets the demands of present-day educational practices in the public schools. This present study may provide a simplification of the methods of teaching instrumental classes at the college level through a criticism of the preparation of instrumental teachers in an effort to discover specific contributing elements that assist the instrumental teacher to teach economically and effectively by making an investigation into the factors involved in teaching techniques that depend upon the acquisition of instrumental performance skills and upon practical principles of procedure in organizing and teaching instrumental music in the public schools.

La racionalidad instrumental como mecanismo de toma de decisiones en la empresa / Instrumental rationality as a decision-making mechanism in the company

Díaz Rodríguez, María Alejandra, Perez Lucho , Yraida Anahí 21 February 2020 (has links)
Instrumental rationality is a term that has been debated over time, and it refers to a kind of reasoning that prioritizes the use of objects or instruments as ways to achieve certain objectives without making an impact measurement necessarily. In other words, the objective is privileged over the ways. This pragmatic form of reasoning is analyzed in this article, and at the same time, the main definitions referring to the different positions on this topic are disclosed. Likewise, the concept of decision-making was reviewed, placing special emphasis on the decision-making process that people done through into their organizations, where many aspects that will be described in detail, are involved. It is concluded that there is a close relationship between these two concepts. Finally, it is considered important to highlight the role that ethics plays in the decision-making process at organizations, due to in the current era, where the use of technological tools prevails over the participation of people, the optimization of organizations processes is based on the use of those tools for the achievement of their mainly objectives. Therefore, it is the matter of answering the question: Is it correct for companies to use instrumental rationality to make decisions?. / Trabajo de Suficiencia Profesional

Att undervisa enskilt och i grupp : Vilka egenskaper skiljer en grupplektion från en enskild lektion enligt åtta lärare? / Individual and Group Instruction : What qualities do eight teachers consider in distinguishing between group lessons and individual lessons?

Falk, Agnes, Nilsson, Katarina January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to gain a greater understanding in how eight particular instrumental teachers utilize the potential, and deal with the challenges during group and individual instruction for the cello and recorder. Eight teachers were interviewed (four cello teachers, three recorder teachers, and one brass teacher), as part of an examination as to how they consider group and individual instruction, and the potential and challenges associated with these methods of instruction. The results indicate that individual lessons facilitate personal contact, in addition to being more suited to the individual. The focus on technique is viewed as being both positive and negative. The relation between teacher and student during the individual lesson is often asymmetrical, but by encouraging the student to participate more actively, this may be mitigated. All the teachers participating in the study acknowledge the potential of group instruction, adding that it is easier to have fun when there is more than one student being taught. Several teachers also mentioned the importance of children challenging, teaching and influencing one another. All of the teachers interviewed would prefer to teach each student both individually, and as part of a group. According to the study, both individual and group instruction offer specific qualities which are used by the teachers to the benefit of themselves and the students. The negative aspects of group instruction are balanced by the positive effects of individual instruction – and vice versa. In effect, these two methods supplement each other. Ultimately, it is the teacher who must decide how best to utilize the potential, and deal with the challenges associated with both methods of instruction.

The St Paul cult in Malta : an evaluation of the contributions of Monsignor Giuseppe De Piro and Saint George Preca / Maria Dolores Cannataci

Cannataci, Maria Dolores January 2014 (has links)
According to tradition, but not definitely corroborated by either historical or archaeological sources, the Maltese islands received their seed of faith in A.D. 60 by the Apostle Paul, when he was on his way to Rome, as recorded in the Acts of the Apostles. The aim of this study is to examine the background of the cult of St Paul in Malta; to investigate the efforts of Mgr G. De Piro and Fr G. Preca in safeguarding the Roman Catholic faith and the cult of St Paul; specifically their contributions when Malta became a British colony and was placed under a Protestant administration; and whether or not their contributions are still valid today. To achieve this, we will carry an exegetical research of the Acts of the Apostles chapters 27, 28:1-10, historiography, modern literary studies. The best primary sources to investigate these two personalities are the archives of the Missionary Society of St Paul (MSSP), and of the Society of Christian Doctrine (SDC). These archives provide the core of the authentic findings of the enormous wealth of religious literature these priests were able to produce, as well as the testimonies of both Founders. Their spiritual and theological writings include books, pamphlets, articles, sermons, letters and other religious materials. When the British settled in Malta (1800-1964), the Maltese were very religious and completely loyal to the Roman Catholic Church, but their religiosity had no sound theological basis. Hence, the majority of the Maltese could have been easily influenced by Protestant proselytism and Freemasonry. Both Mgr De Piro and Fr Preca foresaw the need of a sound catechetical teaching, so that the Roman Catholic faith would be better understood and appreciated. They could read the signs of the times. Mgr De Piro and Fr Preca provided catechetical information and spiritual literature in Maltese, which were almost non-existent at the time; and groups of lay persons were well trained and educated in religious matters. To understand better how the contributions of Mgr De Piro and Fr Preca were so vital to safeguard the Roman Catholic faith and the cult of St Paul, it was imperative to study the history of the local church during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the socio-political situation, and the Church-State problems. This study shows the indefatigable work and sacrificial life led by both Founders and how the Roman Catholic faith was not only saved during the British administration but also became much stronger. In the course of this study, we will investigate how the faith of the Maltese and the cult of St Paul helped to save them from calamities, misery and in time of war; and if the contributions given by Mgr De Piro and Fr Preca are still valid today where the roots of Christianity and Christian tradition are being threatened once again. / PhD (Church and Dogma History), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2014

Real-Time Estimation of Aerodynamic Parameters

Larsson Cahlin, Sofia January 2016 (has links)
Extensive testing is performed when a new aircraft is developed. Flight testing is costly and time consuming but there are aspects of the process that can be made more efficient. A program that estimates aerodynamic parameters during flight could be used as a tool when deciding to continue or abort a flight from a safety or data collecting perspective. The algorithm of such a program must function in real time, which for this application would mean a maximum delay of a couple of seconds, and it must handle telemetric data, which might have missing samples in the data stream. Here, a conceptual program for real-time estimation of aerodynamic parameters is developed. Two estimation methods and four methods for handling of missing data are compared. The comparisons are performed using both simulated data and real flight test data. The first estimation method uses the least squares algorithm in the frequency domain and is based on the chirp z-transform. The second estimation method is created by adding boundary terms in the frequency domain differentiation and instrumental variables to the first method. The added boundary terms result in better estimates at the beginning of the excitation and the instrumental variables result in a smaller bias when the noise levels are high. The second method is therefore chosen in the algorithm of the conceptual program as it is judged to have a better performance than the first. The sequential property of the transform ensures functionality in real-time and the program has a maximum delay of just above one second. The four compared methods for handling missing data are to discard the missing data, hold the previous value, use linear interpolation or regard the missing samples as variations in the sample time. The linear interpolation method performs best on analytical data and is compared to the variable sample time method using simulated data. The results of the comparison using simulated data varies depending on the other implementation choices but neither method is found to give unbiased results. In the conceptual program, the variable sample time method is chosen as it gives a lower variance and is preferable from an implementational point of view.
