Kommunikation mellan hem och förskola : En studie om samarbete mellan pedagoger och föräldrar i två förskolor belägna i ett mångkulturellt område

Molaei, Zohreh January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to examine how teachers and parents are communicating with each other in a foreign area. In case of obstacles in the communication, this study will examine how the preschools create opportunities to solve the problem. This study will also look closely at this relationship from an intercultural communication. This study is based on interviews. My informants are four teachers and four parents, one of the parents is Swedish and the other three have different ethnic and culture backgrounds. This study has reached to several results. The interviews with the teachers have shown that they are unsatisfied with their relationship with the parents because there are two factors that result to their communication difficulties. The first factor is that parents don’t have a good understanding and speaking level of the Swedish language and the second factor is that parents don’t have enough knowledge about the actual and main job of the preschools. Teachers and parents have two different points of views regarding the children’s learning objectives in the preschools. The interviews with the parents has shown that different parents had different point of view regarding communication with the teachers for example two parents were satisfied, one parent was less satisfied and the other one was unsatisfied. The three parents with the foreign background used the same strategy regarding communication with the teachers. These three parent’s strategies were to respect the preschools methods for the children’s culture and learning objectives that were used in the preschool and at the same time use different culture and learning objectives at home. The other parent with the Swedish background cooperated with the teachers to keep the same culture and learning objectives both in school and at home. Conclusion: The common purpose of communication between parents and teachers are the kids. Both parties should communicate and cooperate together to create a safe and educational environment for children`s further development.

Sakalauskienė, Dana 16 August 2007 (has links)
Šio darbo tikslas – atskleisti Šiaulių universiteto dėstytojų tarpkultūrinės kompetencijos struktūrą ir raišką bei patiriamas problemas dėl tarpkultūrinės kompetencijos stokos, dalyvaujant SOCRATES ERASMUS mobilumo programoje. Tyrimo instrumentas – autorės sukurtas pusiau struktūrizuotas interviu klausimynas. Magistro darbe, remiantis Lietuvos ir užsienio mokslinės literatūros bei dokumentų analize, atskleista sąvokų kompetencija, kultūra ir tarpkultūrinė kompetencija tarpusavio sąsajos bei šių sąvokų aiškinimo tradicijos; sukurtas bendrasis tarpkultūrinės kompetencijos teorinis-hipotetinis modelis, atskleidžiantis tarpkultūrinės kompetencijos sampratą, struktūrą, dimensijas. Tyrimas patvirtina autorės suformuluotą mokslinio tyrimo hipotezę, kad dėstytojo tarpkultūrinės kompetencijos modelio dimensijos turi specifinę raišką, atspindinčią aukštosios mokyklos dėstytojo tarpkultūrinę kompetenciją akademinio mobilumo kontekste. / Structure and Expression of Intercultural Competencies of Siauliai University Lecturers while Participating in Academic Exchange Programmes.

An exploratory study of cross-cultural engagement in the community of inquiry: instructor perspectives and challenges

Vladimirschi, Viviane 30 April 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to explore how instructors of online courses accommodate and make provisions for culturally diverse learners in an online community of inquiry. Ten instructors from two Alberta higher education institutions participated in two phases of research. To explore this phenomenon in the CoI model, intercultural competency indicators were created to test how they could develop and expand teaching and social presence in a cross-cultural environment. In the first phase, analysis of the open-ended survey questionnaire (AMEQ) revealed that in the absence of any cross-cultural design, instructors use facilitation and open communication strategies to foster learning and prevent conflict. The second phase, informed by the first phase, involved augmenting the original 34-item CoI survey instrument. Additional roles that relate to instructor cross-cultural efficacy were incorporated into both teaching presence and social presence elements in the CoI survey instrument. The revised 37-item CoI survey instrument was then administered to the same respondents for face validity. Findings revealed that the incorporated cultural indicators correlated highly with the teaching and social indicators, indicating their usefulness to measure multicultural efficacy in the CoI model. / 2012-April

Understanding Intercultural Transitions and Migrant-Host Relationships: How Empathy, Social Support, and Intercultural Competency Facilitate Positive Intercultural Interactions Between German Citizens and Refugees

January 2017 (has links)
abstract: In 2015, Germany was at the center of one of the largest displacements in history as upwards of a million refugees, many from Syria, fled to Germany. In my study, I was fortunate enough to spend three months living in Germany and interacting with Germans and refugees to hear their stories of positive intercultural interaction. Through the integration of Acculturation Theory (Berry, 1980), Cross-Cultural Adaptation Theory (Y.Y. Kim, 1980), and Coordinated Management of Meaning Theory (Pearce & Cronen, 1980) I conducted a qualitative research project where I interviewed 44 individuals representing both German citizens (25) and refugees (19) and collected their stories of positive intercultural interactions with one another. These stories affirmed the importance of intercultural competency, social support, and empathy as core elements of positive interaction providing a platform to create future initiatives grounded in these elements as others engage in intercultural transitions and develop migrant-host relationship. Furthermore, this research underscored the need to address both host and migrant experiences during intercultural transitions being sure not to privilege either group when seeking positive paths to facilitate interaction. / Dissertation/Thesis / Doctoral Dissertation Communication 2017

Psychologické aspekty procesu akulturace s akcentem na vliv interpersonálních vztahů a sociálních sítí / Psychological aspects of acculturation with an emphasis on the impact of interpersonal relationships and social networks

Malá, Lenka January 2018 (has links)
The main idea of the dissertation is the question, what happens to a person when leaving boundaries of his cultural background. The theoretical part of the thesis presents the previous views on the acculturation and the gradual development of the reflections on the process of acculturation. Considering the individual conditions that can contribute to successful acculturation, the use of personality characteristics seems to be limiting and inadequate. Thus, the concept of competencies is introduced as a more relevant approach for research and applied psychology of acculturation. At the same time, family acculturation is presented in its conditions, strategies and results. Only limited attention in psychological research has been dedicated to this domain so far. The empirical part of the thesis further elaborates on the theoretical overview and deals with the question what distinguishes the successful humanitarian workers at the mission abroad in the organization People in need from those who fail and what role in this specific context the family, close personal relationships and social networks play. As a part of the study, there is a demonstration of the individual steps that can be taken when working with competencies outside of the specific case study and the presentation of a specific competence...

Better Speakers Make More Friends: Predictors of Social Network Development Among Study-Abroad Students

Brockbank, J Wyatt 12 December 2011 (has links) (PDF)
Social network development has been studied in the social sciences for the last several decades, but little work has applied social network theory to study-abroad research. This study seeks to quantitatively describe factors that predict social network formation among study-abroad students while in the host countries. Social networks were measured in terms of the number of friends the students made, the number of distinct social groups reported, and the number of friends within those groups. The Study Abroad Social Interaction Questionnaire was compared against these pre-trip factors: intercultural competence, target-language proficiency, prior missionary experience, gender, study-abroad program, neuroticism, extroversion, agreeableness, openness to new experience, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. Results showed that pre-trip oral proficiency in the target language was the strongest predictor of the number of friends made in-country. Certain programs showed stronger predictive statistics in terms of size of largest social group, number of social groups, and number of friends made. A distinction is made between total number of friends and number of friends who are more likely to be native speakers. Neither intercultural competence nor personality showed a significant correlation with the number of friendships made during study abroad.
