Mecanismo de monitoramento do uso de recursos Web para apoio a avaliação de ambientes / Mechanism to monitor interactions between students and pages in a Web based learning environment

Cardieri, Maria Angelica Calixto de Andrade 12 October 2004 (has links)
Orientador: Ivan Luiz Marques Ricarte / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Engenharia Eletrica e de Computação / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-04T03:58:44Z (GMT). This work presents a mechanism to monitor interactions between students and pages in a Web based learning environment. There is a need for this type of mechanism due to the fact that most environments for distance education available on the Web, as well as their usage assessment tools, do not keep appropriate records about such interactions. This type of information is fundamental to support evaluation of students behavior and learning, adapt the system according to different learning models, and also to evaluate the environment itself. The tool development was motivated by a case study of a previously implemented Web based course. In this study, a specific monitoring mechanism was built, in which some problems and required changes were identified. Therefore, a new architecture was proposed for the monitoring tool, which was then implemented. Results presented in this work indicate a flexible, efficient, and reliable way to collect data. Even though this engine has been implemented in an educational environment, it can be used in any Web based application that requires more precise information about user interactions / Mestrado / Engenharia de Computação / Mestre em Engenharia Elétrica

Child pornography in the woodshed

Baker, Roy 11 1900 (has links)
This is a deconstruction of "child pornography" through an analysis of media images of child spanking and their relationship with the criminal law and cinema, video and broadcasting regulation in Britain and Canada. It suggests that the law's primary concern is not the protection of children but the elimination of the heresy that children are sexually attractive. Chapter 1 introduces the phenomenon under discussion, namely internet sites that collect stills and clips from mainstream movies and television showing children receiving corporal punishment. The chapter postulates that these sites are for sexual gratification and explores what society understands by "sexual exploitation of children" and "sex" itself. Part I considers whether the web sites are child pornography under English or Canadian criminal law. Chapter 2 looks at Canada's definitions of obscenity and child pornography. Chapter 3 asks whether the images might be indecent according to England's law. These chapters examine the law's understanding of child spanking as a sexual act, exploring what constitutes "sex". While Part I declines to state definitively whether such web sites are illegal, it argues that the movies and television from which the images originate are tolerated for the reasons that give the images sexual appeal. Part II looks at the regulation in Canada and Britain of the movies and television from which the images are taken. Chapter 4 deals with cinema and video regulation, which prohibits eroticising violence and children, and asks how films are nevertheless rife with images of child beating used for sexual arousal. Chapter 5 similarly examines broadcasting regulation and asks whether the ban on sexualising children might be unconstitutional under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Part III concludes by looking at how society permits the eroticisation of children, while condemning the "paedophile". It suggests that the web sites may arise from childhood trauma over corporal punishment, compares the harm of that practice with that caused by the web sites and concludes that if there be prohibition, then it should be of child spanking, rather than the sites, which are non-exploitative testament to ingenuity in the face of a hypocritically censorial regime.

Printed newspapers and on-line news : a study of the factors influencing consumer acceptance of electronic news via the internet.

Stromnes, Leif. January 2001 (has links)
The aim of this study was to determine the factors influencing readership of electronic news via the Internet. The status of printed news in the changing news environment was also investigated in the light of increasing electronic news readership. In order to achieve this aim, current electronic news readers were probed on their Internet news readership. The findings indicated that although traditional printed news was still very widely read, the shift amongst Internet users seemed to be towards reading more electronic news in the future. This study found that the two most significant factors that will lead to an increase in electronic news readership are the following: • This medium being accessed free of charge, i.e. where no monthly Internet subscriptions need to be paid. This has been achieved through free Internet access via ABSA since 16 February 2001; and • an improvement in the speed of access. The fact that traditional printed newspapers can be read in an informal environment seemed to be the single most important factor in maintaining its popularity. / Thesis (M.Com.)-University of Durban-Westville, 2001.

Rastros virtuais de uma morte (a)enunciada : uma analise dos discursos do suicidio pelas paginas "brasileiras" do Orkut / Virtual traces of a foretold, uttered death : a discourse analysis of suicide through the "Brazilian" websites of Orkut

To narrate knowing that one is being watched enacts a game of ¿displaying¿ and ¿hiding¿ which, somehow, rules and constitutes the social relations of such virtual place. When narrating their experiences, the subjects enact discourses that, beyond their own voices, bring the voices of the others. There is an entanglement of memories, from where one selects and organizes, on time and space, the hiper-textuality of one¿s own writing. It is possible to ¿walk¿ along such ¿Blue City¿ and to identify the rituals of contemporaneity which have started to settle into our society: new ways of narrating death, new ways of experimenting mourning, and new ways of rendering public that which, for a long time, had been confined to the private domain. In the present research, I attempt to understand how teenagers, users of Orkut, are dealing with life and death, with the ambivalent loneliness that springs from a set of virtual relations which might shorten some distances and make rifts between others. I analyze discourses of Brazilian youngsters who committed suicide and left, along the public spaces of Orkut, the virtual traces of a foretold, uttered death / Mestrado / Linguistica / Mestre em Linguística

Uma reflexão socioantropológica sobre o corpo na menopausa / A sociological anthropological reflection on the body in the menopause

Separavich, Marco Antonio Alves, 1966- 09 November 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Ana Maria Canesqui / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Faculdade de Ciências Médicas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-11-09T15:35:17Z (GMT). As experiências vividas neste período não são homogêneas, e não necessariamente negativas / Abstract: This study analyzed the construction of the feminine body in the menopause in a segment of the media, Menospausa - o site da Mulher Madura, as well as the climacteric/menopause concept elaborated for the biomedicine, moreover explored the social representations and stories of experiences in it contained. It is observed that Medias divulge information that stick out the biological or "natural" aspects, emphasizing negative points of this stage of feminine life, impoverishing, in this way the complexity that coats the climacteric/menopause process. The contribution of Social Sciences in Health has been shy, predominating studies that deal with the feminine reproductive phase, with the consequent implications in the subjects related to the proper reproduction, such as the sexuality, contraception, abortion, among others. Therefore, it justifies the interest and the importance of sociological anthropological analysis of the climacteric/menopause process, still more when the Brazilian picture demographic, not differentiating itself of the worldwide one, points to the increasing population aging, with a contingent every larger time of women who enter in this phase, thus demanding larger attention of the Services of Health. It was used qualitative methodology, with sociological anthropological referential, contemplating the quarrels on the social representations of the body and health-illness process; experience and narrative of the illness; gender; corporal changes, beyond mentioning therapeutical options to it. Used biomedical literature was based on seminal texts for the biological knowledge of the climacteric/menopause process, besides of manuals, such as Manual of Attention to the Health of the Woman in the climacteric/menopause, of the technical area of Woman's Health, Ministry of the Health, for guiding professionals of health in the cares to the menopausal women. It was proceeded distribution from the subjects found in the site according to the classification knowing of them on the body, such as, somatic, psychic and social. They had been separate the forty eight interactive messages of site, being chosen those that if had shown units for the sociological anthropological interpretation. It was become fulfilled thematic analysis of the virtual environment by means of the following categories: menopause, body, aging, feminine body, cares and person. One thus searched to understand social cultural representations of the menopausal body and the experience internet's with climacteric/menopause process. Concluded that it does not have menopause, but menopauses, therefore do not have an only vision of this process, as they point the narratives of the experiences in the site. The experiences lived in this period are not homogeneous nor necessarily negative / Mestrado / Saude Coletiva / Mestre em Saude Coletiva

A Distributed Approach to Passively Gathering End-to-End Network Performance Measurements

Simpson, Charles Robert, Jr. 12 April 2004 (has links)
NETI@home is an open-source software package that collects network performance statistics from end-systems. It has been written for and tested on the Windows, Solaris, and Linux operating systems, with testing for other operating systems to be completed soon. NETI@home is designed to run on end-user machines and collect various statistics about Internet performance. These statistics are then sent to a server at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where they are collected and made publicly available. This tool gives researchers much needed data on the end-to-end performance of the Internet, as measured by end-users. NETI@homes basic approach is to sniff packets sent from and received by the host and infer performance metrics based on these observed packets. NETI@home users are able to select a privacy level that determines what types of data are gathered, and what is not reported. NETI@home is designed to be an unobtrusive software system that runs quietly in the background with little or no intervention by the user, and using few resources.

Mariano Vicente da Silva Filho 25 October 2011 (has links)
This Dissertation presents a research concerning the virtualized religion through the symbolical-religious goods supply in the Internet, departing from the Pauline Congregation Members Mission in Paulus Publish House site.
