Alcazar, Alexander, Kastås, Sandra January 2011 (has links)
This master thesis deals with e-traders adaptation of a physical shopping experience into a virtual one. More specifically we examine e-retailers of fashion apparel, a market that more dependent on the physical purchasing experience. Our research question is as follows: How do e-retailers of fashion apparel adapt the physical purchasing process to a virtual context? To examine this, we used Overby’s article "Process Virtualization Theory and the Impact of Information Technology" from 2008 where he describes four different factors that influence a purchase: sensory requirements, relationship requirements, synchronization requirements and identification and control requirements. To strengthen Overby’s theory we also used Belk’s (1975) theory about situation variables and the general theory of Internet marketing. These theories are summarized in a theoretical model which we have based our analysis on. For our empirical data collection we use a qualitative approach. After establishing an interview template based on the theoretical framework, we executed two telephone interviews and three e-mail interviews with e-retailers of fashion clothing. The results shows that e-retailers have used these factors in slightly different ways in the process of virtualization. Marketing is by necessity almost adapted to the Internet. The physical experience, however, is copied as closely as possible, and the goal is that customers gets an idea of what the products look like and feels like in reality. Our conclusion is that in the end, the virtualization process is a compromise between physical processes adapted to a virtual context, and new ideas that would not have been possible in any other medium. Finding a balance between these factors will be one of the greatest challenges for e-retailers in the future.

Christensson, Annika, Hedborn, Jenny, Källberg, Hanna January 2008 (has links)
The community Facebook has become well-known for the fact that it has drawn many users and has a great knowledge about them. This makes Facebook an attractive place for marketing, which has appealed to many different companies and organizations.</p><p>The aim of this study is to examine what possibilities and limitations Facebook has as an arena for marketing, and also examine how Swedish companies and organizations use Facebook in their marketing. We have done a qualitative study in the form of interviews. The questions have revolved around what the interviewees think distinguish Facebook, their experiences of Facebook as an arena for marketing, and their opinions about Facebook’s future as an arena for marketing. To get the best possible answers to our questions, we decided to interview people with knowledge of Facebook, both from an outside and an inside perspective.</p><p>The result of our study shows that the marketing methods on Facebook encourage companies and organizations to be creative. It is indefinite how aware the companies and organizations are about the different methods of marketing on Facebook. Many companies have not had a specific aim with their Facebook marketing, more than the aim to promote their trademark. Many don’t actively work with Facebook, but use it as an arena for marketing because they feel that they don’t have anything to loose, and because many of the methods are free of charge.</p><p>The companies and organizations that have used Facebook’s marketing methods have in many cases started as members of the community. This, together with Facebook’s media exposure, the increasing amount of members and the somewhat older target group, has lead to many companies using Facebook in their marketing. Our study shows that it is easier for the marketers to reach the right target audience due to the clear demographics of Facebook. The integrity issue is a focus of interest in our study, due to the fact that some of Facebook’s marketing methods have a tendency to trespass the users’ personal life, when the companies and organizations strive to get the best possible efficiency of their marketing.</p><p>The increased commercialization is a possible threat to the future of Facebook. However, marketing via communities is something that most likely will develop more in the future, as it is becoming increasingly important to companies and organizations to work as private persons and not only as companies.</p>

The Internet and Marketing : A case study of SmartGuy AB. and PostNord AB

Degefie, Ashenafi Tesema, Naa, Adukwei Allotey January 2013 (has links)
ABSTRACT Title: The Internet and Marketing: A case study of SmartGuy AB. and PostNord AB. Level: D-Level Final Master Thesis in Business Administration Authors: Naa A. Allotey and Ashenafi T. Degefie Supervisor: Professor Akmal Hyder Date: 2013 June Aim: Technology has changed the way businesses are being done specifically in the internet marketing. Even though the growth &amp; development of internet marketing is rapid, many new firms doing e-business are increasing. To make use of this ever increasing opportunity many companies without adequate knowledge and lack of concepts about internet marketing enter into this business that leads into failure. This study examines how businesses use the internet as an effective marketing tool in order to increase business efficiency and survive in the competitive business. The study also identifies the various problems that are affecting the internet marketing business and review possible strategies. Method: The study adopted a qualitative method through a deductive approach. Research questions were developed to gather the data. A semi structured interview was conducted with personnel from Nordpost and SmartGuy. The data was analysed and linked with the theory to provide answers to the research questions. To enhance the richness of the study secondary data sources has been employed in a form of scientific articles, literature, annual reports from the case companies and online sources.  Results and Conclusions: The result of this study shows that the rapid development of online marketing makes it imperative for businesses to seriously consider the internet as a marketing tool in order to remain competitive. There is no specific strategy to adopt but firms could develop internet marketing strategies depending on the nature of their business in order to cope up with the ever changing environment. It also identified the difficulties traditional marketers face when integrating internet marketing. The conclusion is that businesses can overcome the barriers affecting Internet marketing if they take time to identify their micro and macro environments and adopt appropriate strategies. Suggestions for future research: Although this study identified that there are some factors affecting the internet marketing and suggested key elements in developing e-marketing strategy, the results of this study and conclusion, to some extent have some limitations.  Firstly there are only two case companies investigated which makes it hard to generalize the outcomes. Secondly, current literatures in the area of study were very limited showing that researchers are not really giving time to this all important topic.  Thus future research could look more into this subject area, broaden the scope of the investigation to more companies and could also concentrate in the areas where there is a need for a unique strategy development for different internet companies. Future researchers could also look at how the transition from traditional to internet marketing could be made very simple. Contribution of the thesis: The study provides significant insights into the factors affecting internet marketing and e-business strategies that can be adopted to make it an effective marketing tool, a topic often overlooked by published material. Even though there are no specific e-marketing strategies to directly copy or implement, the study suggests specific areas a business should take into consideration while developing the strategy. For businesses, the question of using the internet as a marketing tool should be one of ‘when, why and how’. A well-structured and well thought out business plan which is still applicable is the backbone of any company who is going to be successful in the e-commerce industry.

Acceptance and impact of social networks marketing using extended technology acceptance model

Mulero, Senikat Olumayowa January 2012 (has links)
Thesis (MTech (Information Technology)--)Cape Peninsula University of Technology, 2012 / Includes bibliographical references (leaves 127) / In rapid advances in marketing strategies, Social Networks Marketing (SNM) is dramatically becoming an important aspect in promoting businesses. Social networks marketing has been found as one of the most effective tool used in businesses today, by most business owners in South Africa, to expand, and flourish their businesses. The explosion of Internet usage has drawn the attention of researchers towards social networks marketing. Research has shown that potential Internet users are doubtful, and indecisive to use, and accept SNM system in spite of their availability. Therefore, there is a need for researchers to identify some of the factors that determine user’s unwillingness to accept and use the system. According to the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU), and Perceived Usefulness (PU) are the two major constructs in determining the use and acceptance of various information systems. These beliefs may not fully explain the user’s behaviour towards newly introduced system, such as social networks marketing. Hence, this study had successfully implemented TAM to the newly proposed information system (social networks marketing system). Using TAM as a theoretical framework, the study added two new constructs “perceived credibility” and “awareness” as part of the factors influencing user’s acceptance of social networks marketing. The purpose of the study was to explore the impact of social networks marketing system by SMEs in South Africa, and perception of consumers. In addition, this research investigated factors that influence users’ acceptance of social networks marketing using TAM as the basis for the theoretical framework. Questionnaire-based study done in 2 groups; consumers and small and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs), in this work, represent the major users of social networks marketing in South Africa. The research model was tested using data collected from 143 questionnaires and analysed using linear regression. The results show that user’s intentions to use SNM are strongly and positively correlated with user acceptance. The empirical results confirmed that perceived credibility and perceived usefulness are the strongest determinant in predicting user’s intention to use SNM. In addition, many of the South African SMEs using SNM, have presumed that SNM has positively and negatively impacted their businesses.

Právní aspekty online marketingu / Legal aspects of the online marketing

Kmoch, Štěpán January 2017 (has links)
Legal aspects of the online marketing The ever-growing role and importance of the Internet in today's society encourages the quick development of a relatively young and dynamic field - online marketing. Since the central goal of the online marketing is to maximize the profits of the given entity, commercial interest may easily get into the conflict with the interests of others. However, endangered entities are not only competing entities, but very often the customers themselves, addressing of which is much easier and cheaper in the Internet than in the "real world." In addition, in recent years the importance of the issue of the Internet users' privacy has been growing. Legal responses mainly consist in the public regulation, the compliance of which is supervised by the executor of the public administration appointed to do this by the legislator. However, also private regulation is worth mentioning, which is usually used primarily by competitors of the infringing entity rather than by consumers themselves. This thesis at first introduces the field of online marketing and its tools and consequently deals with the examination of the legal regulation in more detail, including the impact on practice. The aim of the thesis is to look at the legal regulation from the point of view of the practice, which...
