Sjuksköterskors erfarenheter av vårdkontakten med kvinnor som blivit utsatta för våld i nära relation : En litteraturöversikt / Nurses experience´s of managing women exposed to intimate partner violence : A literature review

Brickner, Mikaela, Christensen Nornberg, Cornelia January 2023 (has links)
Background: Intimate partner violence is a global health issue that has increased in recent years. When a person is exposed to intimate partner violence the consequences can be so serious that hospital care is required. The violence can cause suffering for humans in several dimensions. It is estimated that one in four women in Sweden is exposed to violence in close relationships during their lifetime, and from a global perspective one in three women. If and when the battered women apply for health care, the nurse is given a solid mission to pay attention to the vulnerability and provide support in the forms the woman may need. Aim: The aim of this study is to describe nurse’s experiences of managing woman exposed to intimate partner violence.Method: A literature review based on eleven scientific articles from PubMed and Cinahl Complete. Results: The results indicate that there were concrete shortcomings in the nurses' approach. The findings in the literature review indicate that nurses tended to have shared perceptions regarding their role and how they should handle contact with abused women. Which turned out to be primarily related to barriers in the meeting and the concrete knowledge that the nurses had. Conclusion: The results show a large divergence regarding the nurse's experiences of managing women exposed to intimate partner violence. In summary, the nurse has a strong desire to support women who have been subjected to violence, but various factors affect the quality of nursing care. The nurse does not have all the prerequisites needed due to lack of time, insufficient knowledge and unclear guidelines and routines. These affect the work and attitude of the nurse and cause insufficient care of women exposed to intimate partner violence.

The Merits of Reporting Battered Woman Syndrome in South Asian Women

Karran, Annyssa 01 January 2022 (has links)
This paper’s focus on South Asian and Asian-American women in relation to Battered Woman Syndrome (BWS) originates from a limited amount of research on the self-helping behaviors of these women–especially those who have immigrated from the countries of Nepal, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Bhutan–as compared to other cultures (Sripada, 2020). The current literature surrounding BWS identifies lesser reporting on South Asian and Asian-American women with ethnic backgrounds from these regions (Kasturirangan, 2004). A journal by Yoshioka (2005) proposes that we consider the “world view” or intersectionality when considering domestic violence and to which many women are restricted as a result of a lack of access to resources. There are also current iterations of instruments being used that drive the discrepancy in cultural values. This literature review aims to identify those gaps in battered woman syndrome literature by analyzing cultural factors to help account for lowered disclosure rates.

Sexual and Intimate Partner Violence Among the LGBTQ+ College Population

Lewis, Courteney 01 January 2022 (has links)
College-aged students have the highest sexual assault and intimate partner violence victimization rates. Previous studies have linked victimization with poor mental health scores, especially in the LGBTQ+ college population. They also showed a higher rate of victimization for LGBTQ+ students. The goal of this study was to investigate the relationship between victimization and mental health in the LGBTQ+ college population. To conduct this study, I used data from the Spring 2021 and 2022, American College Health Association (ACHA) - National College Health Assessment (NCHA). The results of the study established statistical significance in the rates of sexual violence in LGBTQ+ and cisgender heteronormative students. There was also statistical significance in mental health scores between the two groups. Recognizing how the rates of victimization and mental health scores differ between LGBTQ+ and cisgender heteronormative students can help in understanding and assisting these minority groups.
