Reading Interests and Preferences of Indian, Black, and White High School StudentsClarke, Polly Stotts 12 1900 (has links)
The problem of this study is the identification of differences in reading interests and preferences of Indian, Black, and white adolescents of both sexes and from different high school grade levels as they are related to (a) educational background of the parents, (b) availability of reading materials, (c) community size, and (d) the extent to which these preferences are represented in the standard selection aids for secondary school reading materials. A reading interest inventory was administered in the fall term, 1972, through English classes in twenty integrated schools in Oklahoma, representing three levels of population concentration. Community resources in reading materials available through school libraries, public libraries, and bookstores were evaluated. The reading inventories of 3,581 students were chosen to be evaluated to determine if there were significant differences at the .05 level. Earlier studies have indicated that sex and age are major factors in determining what teenagers read about and that adolescents' reading interests tended to be unique, personal, and very unpredictable.- Few studies have been reported that involved ethnic origin or family levels of education.

Repression-Sensitization and External-Internal Dimensions of Millon's Personality TypologyHeath, Robert Steven 08 1900 (has links)
In a study using 73 females and 30 male undergraduates, information on the basic dimensions of Millon's eight personality styles was obtained from correlations of the Millon Behavioral Health Inventory with Rotter's I-E scale and Byrne's R-S scale. Hypotheses predicting a significant relationship between the active-passive and repression-sensitization were generally supported. Predictions of a significant relationship between the dependent-indepenent dimension and generalized expectancy of locus of control were not supported. Implications of these findings for the efficacy of Millon's system are discussed, along with future research possibilities.

The Diagnostic Suitability of Goldberg's Rule for the Mini-MultRoberts, Dan Haynes 12 1900 (has links)
This study was undertaken to determine whether the Mini-Mult is able to function as well as the MMPI for a limited clinical purpose, the discrimination of psychosis and neurosis by Goldberg's rule. The smaller size of the Mini-Mult (71 items) allows conservation of time .and energy by subjects and professionals. Thirty male residents of the Austin State Hospital completed two standard MMPIs and one oral Mini-Mult. A fourth set of scores was obtained by extracting Mini-Mult from the first MMPI. Correlations and tests of significance were computed for raw scores and Goldberg's index scores. Results indicate no significant differences in the discrimination of psychosis and neurosis between the MMPI and the Mini-Mult.

The Preliminary Development of a Sentence Completion Inventory to Assess Psychologically Unhealthy Religious BeliefsGardiner, Joseph R. (Joseph Rowe) 05 1900 (has links)
To assess psychologically unhealthy Protestant beliefs a Religious Sentence Completion Inventory (RSCI), and scoring Manual, were developed from a pilot study. In the main study 103 undergraduate students were subjects. Interscorer reliability for the RSCI was .83. Results revealed significant positive correlations between the RSCI, and maladjustment validity criteria: a Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) total weighted score; and MPI clinical scales 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8; but not validity scale F; for females. Only MMPI scale 6 correlated with the RSCI for males. These data appear to partially support the proposition that whether Protestant beliefs hinder or do not hinder mental health depends upon the particular kind of beliefs a Protestant holds.

Relations between Child Molesters' Self-Perceptions and Treatment EngagementAltman, Adrianne 12 1900 (has links)
Researchers emphasize the role of cognitions in sex offenders' molesting behaviors. Although cognitions are important, little research has examined child molesters' thoughts about themselves in relation to their engagement in treatment. In this study, the NEO-Personality Inventory (NEO-PI-R) was administered to 67 child molesters. Child sexual offenders rated themselves and their view of a typical child molester using two NEO-PI-R versions. The degree to which child sex offenders identify themselves with their view of a typical child molester, and this agreement's relation with engagement in treatment, were investigated. The view that child sex offenders hold about themselves in relation to a typical child molester showed no relation to treatment engagement or length of time in treatment. However, this self-perception was related to the number of children abused.

The Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory: a Predictive Validity Study with Criminal Offenders Mandated to Rehabilitative TreatmentFlores, Johnny Martin 08 1900 (has links)
The Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory was constructed to screen for substance abuse patterns despite non-admittance of respondents. Predictive validity studies of the SASSI are limited, and are not available for probationers. Participants were 147 male and 54 female probationers mandated to treatment. Overall differences among SASSI scales were significant for treatment compliance and outcome. Higher SASSI scales were found among those probationers who were compliant/successful. Individual scales were not significantly different, however, a trend was revealed; those respondents who scored higher tended to comply/succeed in treatment. The SASSI alone accurately classified 59.7% of respondents. In summary, the SASSI's use in predicting treatment outcome is limited and should be employed with concomitant data.

Archivní sbírka Českého farmaceutického muzea XIII. Fond Rozvojové lékárenské středisko II. / Archives of the Czech Pharmaceutical Museum XIII. Archival collection Pharmacy Development Centre II.Vitásek, Vojtěch January 2014 (has links)
Charles University in Prague Faculty of Pharmacy in Hradec Králové Department of Social and Clinical Pharmacy Candidate: Vojtěch Vitásek Supervisor: Mgr. Jan Babica Title of diploma thesis: Archives of the Czech Pharmaceutical Museum XIII. Archival collection Pharmacy Development Centre II. In my thesis I addressed the activity of the Pharmacy Development Center. In particular I dealed with the building up and internal equipment of the pharmacies. My goal was to create an inventory of the part of the archive of the Fond of Pharmacy Development Center which is related to the building up of the pharmacies and to sumarize the norms and their ammendments over the years on which the Pharmacy Development Center took part. Norms in this thesis are presented according to how they were ammended and what they concerned during the building up of the pharmacies. I inventorized a part of the Fond archive according to the registry key. I categorized, moved and discarded the documents. I created an archiving tool - inventory to ease the work of further developers.

Koncept všímavosti a jeho využití v práci s dětmi / The Concept of Mindfulness and Its Application to Work with ChildrenSkokanová, Zuzana January 2013 (has links)
The thesis summarizes current findings about mindfulness and presents specifics of and the prospects for work with children and adolescents in that context. It addresses certain programs based on mindfulness used in clinical practice as well as in a school setting, along with a brief evaluation of studies that monitor the impact of these programs on various aspects of child mental health. The empirical part of the study describes quantitative research into the extent of mindfulness in children by way of the Child and Adolescent Mindfulness Measure (CAMM-17) and a comparison group of children with ADHD and intact sample. On the basis of the Mann-Whitney U Test, it was found that the extent of mindfulness in ADHD children does not differ significantly from the intact sample. Statistically, older children scored significantly higher than younger children in ADHD sample as well as in the learning disabilities group and in comparison of older and younger boys. The last part presents a program proposal for cultivating mindfulness in children with ADHD. Keywords: ADHD, children, Child and Adolescent Mindfulness Measure, Mindfulness, mindfulness- based interventions, school, mindfulness research

Upprepningar och tristess : Varje gång man upprepar något, ändras något och ändå upprepas detGöthlin, Julius January 2012 (has links)
What does it actually mean to be bored? According to media you most likely get the impression that it is a disease that needs to be cured. And the word certainly has a negative tone attached to it. To be “bored” is not a state of mind where most people want to be. Therefore we live in a world where we can find all kinds of distractions and tools to make things as effective and entertaining as possible. In my essay “Upprepningar och tristess”, I explore the link between boredom, creativity and development. Through studies, books, essays and magazines I try to get under the skin of a hard definable topic. What has been written and what has been said? Is it overall just a bad thing that we should try to eliminate, or is it an important state of mind that we need to pay attention to and try to understand better? In the end, also my essay falls prey to the depths of boredom. /
My exam work consists of a written essay part and a formed/interpreted part.
