Recent historiographical currents come rewriting this history through a different perspective. The characters of that period are coming to life, but indigenous peoples are still invisible. Invisibility present in the sources and traditional history. A rereading of documents with a new look is showing these actors agencies. This scenario permeated by evolutionists and racist theories, refines the denial of indigenous apparatuses, a conflict between the idealized and the real Indian, who has no place. The indigenous are present in the daily life of the city, the "non-places", in contradiction, marginality etc., demonstrating survival strategies.

The Politics of (Not) Giving a Sh*t: Understanding the Invisibilization of Queer South Asian Women in Pride Toronto

Patel, Sonali 11 November 2021 (has links)
This thesis builds on the findings of my previous study, which established that queer South Asian women (QSAW) feel invisibilized in Toronto’s LGBTQ+ community (see Patel, 2019). The present study critically investigates the operation and cultural reproduction of power in organizational practices that invisibilize QSAW within Pride Toronto™, as a means of diagnosing the problem in mainstream LGBTQ+ organizations more broadly. The following research question is explored: How do the cultural underpinnings of Pride Toronto™ contribute to the invisibilization of queer South Asian women in the broader LGBTQ+ community? This critical ethnography substantiates the invisibilization of QSAW in the LGBTQ+ community as an institutionalized form of identity-based violence. This study rejects the argument that invisibility is exclusively felt by QSAW. Instead, this thesis demonstrates that QSAW are invisibilized by the willful negligence of dominant actors in knowledge practices, as well as assimilationist politics that mandate outness, which invalidate and exclude QSAW. This study further finds that QSAW remain invisibilized in the broader LGBTQ+ community as a result of Pride organizations branding as diverse and inclusive, while simultaneously advancing colonial knowledge about queer identities and ideologies that re-write the narratives of QSAW in mainstream LGBTQ+ discourse.

?Atr?s do processo tem gente?: homoparentalidade e suas repercuss?es no universo da ado??o / "Behind the process there are people": Homoparentality and it's repercussions in adoption.

Pesquisa do Estado do RJ - FAPERJ / The purpose of this research is to understand the representations of homossexuality from both the speechs of the legal actors that are actives on the adoption?s processes, mainly menbers of the thechnical crew from the Childhood, Youth and Elderly Court and the coordinators of the Adoption?s support groups, as homossexual couples that has adopted a child or are in the process to do such thing. I have identified two main strategies in the way that homossexuality is approached in this context: The ?invisibilization? of the peculiarities of the adoption by homossexual couples, as if the simple approval of the adoption by homossexual by the judiciary resolved all the conflicts in this theme, or, as if recognize the specificties of this family configuration would always mean a prejudice. On the other side, there is what I call the ?idealization? of homossexuality, especially on the interviews, as if homossexuality represented by itself an advantage in terms of the personal maturation of the candidate. It seems here the same operation, altough in a contrary way, of the logics that disqualifies the person solely because of his homossexuality. Yet homossexuality is suggested from the logic of stigma, even as a reaction to it, since, in a positive or a negative way, sexual orientation continues sticking out the others person?s predicates as a distinctive mark / O objetivo da presente pesquisa ? entender as representa??es da homossexualidade a partir tanto dos discursos dos atores jur?dicos presentes no processo de ado??o, notavelmente membros de equipes t?cnicas das Varas de Inf?ncia, da Juventude e do Idoso e coordenadores de Grupos de Apoio ?

Jazykový sexismus v současné španělštině / Linguistic sexism in contemporary Spanish

Hofmanová, Sabina January 2016 (has links)
(in English): As the title itself indicates, the topic of this thesis is the linguistic sexism in contemporary Spanish. The theoretical part offers a critical perspective on the phenomenon of so called sexism in language and defines terms such as linguistic sexism, androcentrism or invisibilization of women in the language. It also provides a brief outline of the development of gender linguistics with an emphasis on Spanish-speaking countries and provides an overview of important works on the topic. The thesis also deals with the contrast between linguistic sexism and sexism as a social issue, as well as with the question whether language can be sexist, or whether the sexism is caused by the way the speakers use the language. Particular attention is paid to the issue of gender in language and phenomena that are considered as sexist, especially the generic masculine. The practical part is mainly dedicated to lexical issues: denoting women in professions that were traditionally male and idioms and set phrases that can be examples of sexist use of language or a possible reflection of social sexism in language. It also analyses the asymmetry in addressing women and men in a polite way, inadequate pairs, apparently dual forms and missing lexical units as well as insults and profanities that can be...

Santos do Nascimento Paiva, Michelle 17 November 2016 (has links)
This thesis investigates women’s working conditions in France to give an account of the difficulties of establishing links between those conditions and the development of certain cancers. This investigation implies getting familiar with the ways biological and cultural differences are being held as arguments to explain feminine particularities of cancers. Using a sexual division of labour approach, this research aims to understand why the hypothesis of carcinogenic harms to health in the workplace would only be plausible to explain men’s cancers. Which elements are used to undermine the professional etiology in the explication of women’s cancers? Are we taking into account concrete, empirical and contextualized differences or is it a differentiation process, constructed in a visibilization/invisibilization interplay of men’s and women’s work? This thesis claims that women are affected by an invisibilization phenomenon of the carcinogenic harms to their health in the workplace. The processes of differentiation between men and women are (re)producing themselves at macro, meso and microsocial levels; they are present in the construction of knowledge, in the production of conditions for recognition of the occupational disease, in social mobilisations and in the subjective relation between the individuals and their work and risks

Nascimento, Luanne Michella Bispo 27 February 2014 (has links)
This work was motivated by the lack of studies in the Sierra National Park Itabaiana that clings to the study of local knowledge of local residents in your surrounding. Currently, we observe the existence of an experienced gridlock on one side by the creation of Conservation Units (CU s) that imposes legal use of natural resources constraints and on the other, the reality of the settlements characterized by economic dependence on its residents to natural resources and unsustainable economic and cultural activities. Environmental laws by defining the use of that space can cause, directly or indirectly, environmental conflicts. In the conservation process, knowledge about the use and sustainable management of natural resources, their ideological formations, cultural practices and traditional techniques, constituting the environmental knowledge of a community, can be considered. For this, one must understand that the environmental issue is inherently conflictual because resource use is subject to conflicts between different designs, meanings and purposes. This research will highlight the importance of local knowledge, as many scientists argue that the presence of populations within parks can contribute significantly to the success of these conservation areas. The overall goal of this research is to analyze the knowledge, local knowledge, forms of ownership of the community in relation to the environment, correlating them with the socioeconomic context in Ribeira populated. From these surveys, the paper intends to talk about the complex web of inter-relationships mentioned above, to thereby form the environmental knowledge. The problem refers to the process of increasing invisibilization experienced by communities surrounding protected areas as a result of the implementation, management and maintenance of CU s, which only promote conservation of environmental structures, relegating to the background social diversity . Therefore, the methodology adopted was based on ethno-ecological studies, conducting field work, which were developed by techniques of oral history, especially the history of life. During the field research quantitative and qualitative interviews were conducted. The transcript, systematization and analysis of data followed the technique of discourse analysis. In addition, we constructed a comparative table of cognition, in which the locations are compared and scientific knowledge. Through research it is concluded that the increased knowledge about the plants and animals as well as the retention of them are related to the utility aspect that offer residents and not the ecological value of each. Such knowledge of scientific approach, others do not. There was a process of community invisibilization both the implementation process PARNASI as in management. In an attempt to alleviate the problems of managing PARNASI could promote environmental education to try greening knowledge and understanding of local communities. From the discussions, we point to the need to overcome paradigmatic, seeking an environmental paradigm that stick to the existing socio-bio-diversity conservation units. Thus, it is expected that to be ecologically suited environmental knowledge can promote a process of desinvisibilization local communities, contributing positively to the conservation process in UC´s.

« I’m not only a casualty, I’m also a warrior » : LA personnage de la travailleuse domestique : exemples d'héroisme de genre dans les récits littéraires de travail du care / « I’m not only a casualty, I’m also a warrior » : the character of the domestic worker : examples of gender heroism in literary narratives of care work

Marzi, Laura 05 November 2015 (has links)
This thesis is an interdisciplinary research between care and literature, based on the assumption of an interdependence between the two perspectives. My work relies on the idea that literature can be a research instrument particularly suitable on work and care relation, precisely because novels can recount ordinary stories. Indeed, care is not a general ontological principle, it is related to specific situations, concrete. Then, literary narratives Slow Man by John M. Coetzee and Maria by Lalla Romano, basis of my analysis, reverse the condition of invisibility that affects care workers in our society. In novels and sociological works analyzed, care-givers occupy the main stage : they are heroines, not in the sense of universal male heroism, but in one that emerges from the care stories read from a gender perspective. Finally, the analysis of novels Maria and Slow Man has also inspired reflection on the Unheimliche. The character of the care-giver is a source of uncanny, because she is a woman, and that her job is to take care of what is familiar, but should have remained hidden: the human vulnerability. Moreover, very often the care-giver is a foreign woman who disturbs the space of domesticity and intimacy. Through the double perspective of feminist literary criticism and ethics of care we propose a new gendered reading of the uncanny in social representations, literary and symbolic.
