<p><p>Föreliggande studie har haft till syfte att utifrån ett deltagarperspektiv få en förståelse för den studerade organisationens introduktionsaktiviteters möjligheter och begränsningar för lärande och inbäddning av de nyanställda. Introduktionsaktiviteterna innefattar en arbetsplatsintroduktion samt ett formellt introduktionsprogram. De frågeställningar som behandlas är, vad som karaktäriserar de nuvarande introduktionsaktiviteterna och vad de nyanställda beskriver att de lärt sig genom att delta i aktiviteterna. Vidare behandlas, på vilket sätt introduktionsaktiviteterna har varit ett stöd för de nyanställdas inbäddning på arbetsplatsen samt vilka omständigheter som förefaller vara viktiga för att aktiviteterna ska kunna bidra till en positiv inbäddning för den nyanställde. Ansatsen har varit inspirerad av ett hermeneutiskt perspektiv i strävan efter en förståelse för deltagarnas föreställningar om introduktionsaktiviteterna. Förståelsen har skapats genom en pendling mellan del och helhet i en hermeneutisk cirkel. En metodtriangulering har tillämpats för att besvara studiens syfte och frågeställningar. Designen har inneburit fyra delar, där dagbokstudier och intervjuer med nyanställda har varit den huvudsakliga insamlingsmetoden för empirin. Resultaten har diskuterats med stöd av tidigare forskning om introduktion av nyanställda samt genom att applicera kognitiva och kontextuella lärandeteorier. Studiens resultat har utmynnat i en modell som visar vilka omständigheter i de formella och informella introduktionsaktiviteterna som möjliggör och begränsar ett lärande och inbäddning av de nyanställda. Möjligheter till lärande och inbäddning gynnas av trygghet, aktivt deltagande, legitimitet och utveckling. Begränsningar till lärande och inbäddning utgörs av osäkerhet, passivt deltagande, utanförskap och stagnering. Dessa möjligheter och begränsningar för lärande och inbäddning förhåller sig till varandra i en cirkulär process, där kontexten inverkar.</p></p>

Juvenile Correctional Officers' Job Satisfaction, Retention, and Quality of SupervisionAppling-Plummer, Lalita Nicole 01 January 2019 (has links)
Juvenile Correctional officers are important to the function of secure facilities because they maintain constant contact with offenders. This quantitative study sought to determine why turnover rates continue to rise and offered insight into retaining officers. This study utilized Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs theory as the foundation for explaining relationships between the variables: quality supervision and intent to stay and job satisfaction, job search, and job embeddedness of juvenile correctional officers across the United States. Survey data were collected from 247 juvenile correctional officers using a web-based survey containing 5 scales including Quality of Supervision and Intent to Stay, and Job Embeddedness, Job Satisfaction, and Job Search. The relationship between quality of supervision and intent to stay and job embeddedness, job satisfaction, and job search, were analyzed through correlational and multiple regression analyses. An ordinal regression analysis determined that of the variables examined, job satisfaction was a significant factor in the quality of supervision for juvenile correctional officers supervising female youth in secure facilities. A multiple linear regression analysis determined that of the variables analyzed only job satisfaction and job search had a significant effect on juvenile correctional officers supervising female youth intent to stay employed at secure female facilities. This research enhances the body of knowledge examining the cause of individuals' intent to stay and quality of supervision. Reduction of employee turnover increase of job satisfaction, and quality of supervision can positively benefit juvenile justice organizations by enabling correctional staff to meet the overall mission of keeping youth and communities safe.

Relationship Between Job Embeddedness and Turnover Intentions Among Municipal Law Enforcement OfficersForrester, William Alonzo 01 January 2019 (has links)
Law enforcement organizations have been facing a challenge with maintaining an adequate level of personnel due to an increased rate of employee turnover, which has been shown to have a negative impact on an agency's ability to reduce both property and violent crimes. The purpose of this cross-sectional, quantitative study was to examine job embeddedness as a predictor of turnover intentions among municipal law enforcement officers by using the human capital theory as the theoretical foundation. To collect the data, a survey link was distributed to all personnel of a large, municipal law enforcement agency in the southeastern United States; only full-time, commissioned law enforcement personnel were included in the study, which resulted in a sample size of 107. Linear regression was used to analyze the data. Job embeddedness and turnover intentions had a statistically significant and negative correlation (r = .656, p < .001). In addition, the bivariate linear regression model significantly predicted turnover intentions, F(11, 106) = 79.135, p < .001); job embeddedness was responsible for 42.4% (adjusted R2 = .424) of the variance in turnover intentions. When job embeddedness decreases, turnover intentions increase, and when job embeddedness increases, turnover intentions decrease. The study has implications for positive social change as it established the relationship between job embeddedness and turnover intentions among law enforcement officers. The results provide support for using the concept of job embeddedness to inform retention programs aimed at reducing voluntary turnover. Reducing voluntary turnover has the potential to maximize the ability of an agency to meet its crime control mission and to reduce costs associated with recruitment and training new employees, which will allow for more funding to go directly to the provision of services.

Denna uppsats är ämnad att undersöka hur chefer på säsongsbetonade hotellupplever personalomsättningen och om de arbetar aktivt gentemot den. Uppsatsenämnar även att undersöka vad cheferna anser vara påverkande faktorer till problemetoch hur de tacklar problemen idag. Skribenterna är därför intresserade av chefernasegna perspektiv på personalomsättningen inom hotellbranschens olika avdelningar.Den valda metoden för denna uppsats är en kvalitativ studie med tiosemistrukturerade intervjuer med olika personer med chefspositioner på nio olikahotell runt om i Sverige. De flesta av hotellen har sin bas på Gotland med undantagför ett par stycken. Samtliga hotell, förutom ett, har sommar som högsäsong. Empirinanalyseras med hjälp av inbäddning i arbetet teori. Denna teori fann skribenternalämpliga eftersom att de berör centrala delar till vad som får en person att vilja lämnasitt arbete eller stanna kvar.Resultatet studien kom fram till var att majoriteten av respondenterna uppgeratt de inte har problem med personalomsättning, utom på vissa specifika avdelningar.Respondenterna upplever fördelar med personalomsättning, att få in nytt blod ochskapa bra dynamik. Däremot är personalomsättning tidskrävande, energitömmandeoch kostsamt. Samtliga respondenter arbetar medvetet med att skapa länkar mellanmedarbetare och arbetsplatsen samt på och utanför samhället. In addition this paper investigates how different managers in seasonal hotels viewstaff turnover and what they consider to be influencing factors in regards to theproblem, plus what solutions they might action in modern hospitality. Therefore weare interested in manager's personal perspectives on staff turnover throughout theentire hotel industry and its various departments.To answer our research question, we have chosen an inductive method bycarrying out ten semi-structured interviews with individuals in leading positions suchas reception or restaurant managers at nine seasonally dependent hotels aroundSweden. These interviews are analyzed based on the “Job Embeddedness” theory.The most pertinent result found during the study was that staff turnover is notperceived as a problem by those working at a managerial level, with exception tothose workers in specific departments such as kitchens, cleaning, and night staff.Turnover of competent staff was also a concern to management. Further results fromthe study shows that staff work to actively create connections between fellowemployees, the workplace and society. Additionally the study shows that managersbelieve it is important to motivate their employees to enjoy their work and allowthem to create connections within the workplace, which potentially leads to staffreturning for future seasons.

Previous issue date: 2011 / Nenhuma / O Objetivo deste trabalho foi verificar a relação existente entre o job embeddedness dos funcionários de uma instituição financeira o seu desempenho individual e da agência em que atua. Nesse sentido, foi realizada inicialmente uma pesquisa sobre a literatura existente sobre o conceito de job embeddedness, também foi verificado o que os estudos do ramo financeiro estavam pesquisando e foram levantadas algumas informações sobre esse ramo. O modelo teórico de Job embeddedness foi testado em uma amostra de 71 respondentes de uma instituição financeira localizada no Rio Grande do Sul no primeiro semestre de 2011. Foi sugerido, através da revisão teórica, que o nível de Job embeddedness dos gerentes dessa instituição possuía relação com o desempenho individual desse gestor e com o desempenho da agência. Como técnica de pesquisa, foi utilizada a análise de regressão. Os resultados indicaram que o vínculo pessoal com a organização possui relação positiva e significante com o desempenho do gestor, e que o sacrifício em deixar a organização possui relação negativa e significante com esse desempenho. Por outro lado, o estudo colaborou para verificar que o desempenho individual dos funcionários, possui relação positiva e significante com o desempenho financeiro de uma agência bancária, confirmando uma das hipóteses de pesquisa. Isso demonstra que outros estudos podem ser efetuados para verificar a relação desse conceito com índices de desempenho e buscar verificar o que influencia nesse desempenho individual do gestor. / The purpose of this study was to verify the existing relation between Job embeddedness of the employee of a financial institution and the individual performance and the performance of the bank where he works. In this case a research was made on the existing literature about this concept, it was also verified what the studies on the financial field were researching and some information was raised on this line. In the first semester of 2011 the Job embeddedness theoretical model was tested with 71 individuals of a financial institution located in Rio Grande do Sul. It was suggested through the theoretical review that the level of Job embeddedness of the managers of this institution had a relation with the individual performance of this person and the performance of the branch. The research technique used was regressive analysis. The results show that the link each individual has with organization is positively related to his or her individual job performance. Results also show that scarify to leave the organization is negatively related to individual job performance. On the other hand the study has helped to verify that the performance of managers has a strong and significant relationship with the financial performance of the bank, confirming the eighth hypothesis. This demonstrates that other studies can be made to check the relationship of this variable with performance and try to verify what influences the individual performance of a manager.

The voluntary turnover rate in the United States hotel industry is among the highest of all industries, resulting in lost revenue. The purpose of this multiple case study was to explore strategies hotel managers use to reduce voluntary employee turnover. The targeted population consisted of 6 managers from hotel businesses operating in the MidAtlantic region of the United States who successfully used strategies to reduce voluntary employee turnover. Job embeddedness theory, this study's theoretical framework, was used to describe reasons employees remained in organizations. Data were gathered via semistructured interviews, observational notes, and public business records regarding turnover or retention programs. Yinʼs 5-step analysis model was used to compile, deconstruct, reassemble, interpret, and draw conclusions from the data. Four themes emerged from data analysis: organizational support with property-level flexibility, feeling valued for individual contributions to the team, opportunities for training or advancement, and relationships with managers and peers. The results of this study may contribute to positive social change by providing strategies to reduce employee turnover in a historically low-wage industry, which may result in raising the quality of life for hotel employees, their families, and communities.

Employee Turnover: The Effects of Workplace EventsJanuary 2011 (has links)
This research was designed to extend the unfolding model of voluntary turnover by examining the most commonly reported turnover decision path. Specifically, the purpose of the current investigation was to explore how employees evaluate negative workplace events--coined "shocks"--and the effects of such events on turnover intention. Participants, 204 Registered Nurses currently employed by a hospital, were asked to report on a negative work event. Only satisfaction with the organization's response to the event affected justice perceptions regarding the shock event. Events perceived as unjust or unfair were negatively related to perceived compatibility with the organization, which in turn predicted turnover intention. Job embeddedness also influenced perceived compatibility and intent to leave the organization. Characteristics of the shock events and suggestions to organizations to prevent avoidable, voluntary turnover are also presented.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the job constructs influencing campus recreation undergraduate student workers’ satisfaction and retention and how their job satisfaction relates to job retention. The job constructs measured against job satisfaction and retention were job embeddedness, perceived organizational support, perceived organizational prestige, and organizational commitment. An online survey was sent out for 14, four-year, public universities in two southeastern states. A total of 108 undergraduate student employees responded to the survey. Descriptive statistics and a correlation matrix were performed in order to analyze the data and the relationship between the variables. Three regressions were used to measure the significance of the variables relationship. This study’s results suggest that those students who are more committed to the organization are more likely to be satisfied with their job. Additionally, those students who are more embedded in their job are more likely to return to their job.

Job embeddedness and organisational commitment as predictors of voluntary turnover at a South African higher education institutionTebele, Cebile 04 September 2013 (has links)
The objectives of this study were to determine whether job embeddedness and organisational
commitment significantly predict voluntary turnover, and whether people from different gender,
race and age groups differ significantly in their job embeddedness, organisational commitment
and voluntary turnover. The Job Embeddedness Scale (JES), Organisational Commitment
Scale (OCS) and Voluntary Turnover Scale (VTS) were used as measuring instruments. A
stratified random sample of 102 full-time employed higher education academics participated in
the study.
Multiple regression analyses showed that organisation fit and community links and normative
commitment significantly and positively predicted the participants’ intentions to stay at the
institution. Significant differences were observed between the job embeddedness and intention
to stay of the gender and race groups. The findings of the current study add to the knowledge
base on the turnover intentions of academic staff, contributing to the field of career psychology.
