Rizzi, Elizabeth 01 June 2010 (has links)
Made available in DSpace on 2016-04-28T19:34:48Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 1 Elizabeth Rizzi.pdf: 6099155 bytes, checksum: a85e651980bc62ff4bbec0ce6951487a (MD5) Previous issue date: 2010-06-01 / In this dissertation, we examined the linguistics traces used to build the leaflet that has the objective to offer esoteric services. At the beginning, we tried to answer the following questions. What are the linguistic resources used by the announcer to call the reader s attention to this kind of gender? How does the announcer make himself presented in the ads? As theoric studies, we used studies about the discursive gender mentioned by Bakhtin (2003) and studies about the (inter)subjectivity in the language according to Émile Benveniste (2005-2006), Kerbrat-Orecchioni (1980-1997) and Fiorin (1999). The body of the research is constituted by 9 leaflets, collected in many places in the city of São Paulo, from January, 2007 to December, 2008. The achieved results show that the announcer uses in leaflets the (inter)subjectivity traces of the 1st and 2nd to establish a relation between seller-consumer in the message / Nesta dissertação, analisamos marcas linguísticas de enunciação utilizadas na construção do panfleto publicitário que tem como finalidade oferecer serviços esotéricos.

Neutron reflectivity studies of bacterial membranes, peptides and proteins

McKinley, Laura Ellen January 2017 (has links)
This thesis uses neutron and x-ray reflectivity to measure the interfacial structures of three molecular components associated with bacteria. Firstly, the way in which the membrane targeting sequence of a cell division protein interacts with monolayer models for the inner leaflet of the inner membrane of bacteria was measured at the air-water interface. Secondly, the influence of lipopolysaccharide on a monolayer model for the outer leaflet of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria was measured at the air-water interface, as well as how this lipopolysaccharide interacts with an antimicrobial peptide. Finally, the structure of a layer of protein found at the surface of a Gram-positive biofilm was measured at the air-water interface. Binding of the membrane targeting sequence of the MinD protein (MinD-mts) to the inner leaflet of the cytoplasmic membrane is thought to be key for bacterial cell division. Modelling this membrane as a monolayer at the air-water interface, it was found that the insertion of the MinD-mts increased with decreasing lateral pressure within the monolayer, as well as with increasing unsaturation of the lipid components, and the incorporation of cardiolipin into the monolayer. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is the major component of Gram-negative outer membranes, such as Escherichia coli, and can be considered as having three structural components: lipid A, a core oligosaccharide, and a variable polysaccharide chain. By incorporating LPS into a model membrane at the air-water interface, it was found that the polysaccharide chain undergoes conformational changes depending on the area per molecule. The effect of the antimicrobial peptide Pexiganan on the structure of this LPS layer was also determined, and was found to insert into the polysaccharide chain layer, but have no impact on the conformation of the chains. In nature, many bacteria live within a biofilm structure. A critical component of the Gram-positive Bacillus subtilis biofilm is a surface active amphipathic protein called BslA, which gives rise to the formation of the highly hydrophobic surface of the biofilm. The kinetics of this film formation, its thickness, and the lateral packing of the protein at the air-water interface, were measured using both neutron and x-ray reflectivity. It was found that a native BslA protein consistently formed the same structural film, whilst the structure of films formed by mutant proteins depended on the conditions under which the film was formed.

Webová aplikace pro grafickou vizualizaci geografických časových řad / Web Application for Graphical Visualization of Geospatial Time Series

Rykala, Kryštof January 2021 (has links)

Visualization of Geographic Data in ASP.NET / Visualisering av Geografiska Data i ASP.NET

Sköld, Anton January 2020 (has links)
This paper explores the development and implementation of an in-browser map with the purpose of visualizing large sets of geographic data. The map is implemented into a pre-existing search engine of geographic data. Two mapping frameworks are compared in terms of performance, ease-of-use, and functionality. These frameworks are Leaflet and Google Maps. This paper also explores which issues may arise when implementing these mapping frameworks within a pre-existing ASP.NET project. These aspects were evaluated through performance tests, documentation reading, and compiling experiences gained through implementing the map within the search engine. The experiments show that both Leaflet and Google Maps are viable frameworks to use when developing in-browser maps, but also that they have their pros and cons. Google Maps sports a generally higher level of performance, and a larger set of paid available services. Leaflet is a free, open-source alternative with a large plugin repository, but relies on third-party services for features such as geocoding.

Nilsson, Susanne January 2021 (has links)
This report deals with the development of the historical maps web application for a company that works to preserve the cultural heritage of old maps. The goal of the project has been to create a proof of concept for a web application that allows the user to view and interact with historical maps. As well as taking part in the history and facts behind the maps, areas and points of interest within the maps. Work on the application has begun with the foundational design, such as flowchart, mood board and design sketches for the application. Based on these, a proof of concept is developed in the form of an interactive web application written in React with additional libraries such as Materials UI for user interface and Leaflet for interactive map functions. For facts content, fetch calls are made to the Wikipedia API. Trade-offs have had to be made regarding implemented functionality in this first version of the web application, in order to represent how the interactiveness with the maps can work while also demonstrating potential future functionality. The finished application achieves the purpose of the assignment as proof of concept. Interactivity in the maps and connections between the maps are implemented, along with static elements that exists to represent future possibilities. Information and facts about areas of interest and points of interest are retrieved from Wikipedia through the API.

Visualisera parkeringsplatser med JavaScript-ramverk och Leaflet / Visualize parking spaces with JavaScript-framework and Leaflet

Olsson, Jimmy January 2021 (has links)

Leaf margin morphogenesis in crucifer plants

Bilsborough, G. D. January 2011 (has links)
A key question in developmental biology is how form is generated. The model species Arabidopsis thaliana produces simple leaves with marginal outgrowths termed serrations. Serration development in A. thaliana requires both the transcription factor CUP-SHAPED COTYLEDON2 (CUC2) and the auxin efflux facilitator PIN-FORMED1 (PIN1), which regulates polar auxin transport by forming convergence points (Hay et al., 2006; Nikovics et al., 2006; Scarpella et al., 2006). In Chapter 3, I investigate how CUC2, PIN1 and auxin interact to control serration development. I demonstrate that CUC2 promotes PIN1 convergence point and auxin activity foci formation along the margin of the leaf, whilst high auxin activity represses CUC2 expression. Furthermore, interspersed peaks of CUC2 and auxin activity pattern serration development along the proximo-distal axis of the leaf. Thus, auxin, PIN1 and CUC2 form a negative feedback loop that patterns serration development. CUC genes and PIN1 are required for leaflet development in Cardamine hirsuta (Barkoulas et al., 2008; Blein et al., 2008), a close relative of A. thaliana that produces compound leaves subdivided into units termed leaflets. However, it is unclear how CUC and PIN1 interact to control leaflet development. In Chapter 4, I demonstrate that similar to A. thaliana, CUC genes promote PIN1 convergence point and auxin activity foci formation at the C. hirsuta leaf margin, whilst high auxin activity represses CUC2 expression. These genetic interactions likely create interspersed peaks of CUC2 and auxin activity that pattern leaflet development. Thus, the same negative feedback loop between CUC, PIN1 and auxin patterns both leaflet development in C. hirsuta and serration development in A. thaliana. KNOTTED1-LIKE HOMEOBOX (KNOX) genes are expressed in C. hirsuta leaves, and interact with ChCUC and PIN1 in positive and negative feedback loops, respectively, to control leaflet development (Barkoulas et al., 2008; Blein et al., 2008). KNOX genes are not expressed in A. thaliana leaves, but deeply lobed margins reminiscent of leaflets develop in association with ectopic KNOX expression in leaves (Chuck et al., 1996; Hay et al., 2006). However, it is unclear whether regulatory interactions of PIN1, CUC and KNOX which occur in C. hirsuta leaflets are employed during KNOX-induced lobe development in A. thaliana. In Chapter 5, I demonstrate that CUC2 and polar auxin transport are required for ectopic KNOX expression. Conversely, I show that KNOX misexpression up-regulates CUC2 expression in A. thaliana leaves. Thus, interactions between KNOX, CUC and PIN1 that occur in leaflet development in C. hirsuta also occur in association with KNOX-induced lobe development in A. thaliana. In addition to investigating the regulatory interactions between known components of leaf development pathways, I sought to identify novel genes that mediate CUC2-dependent serration development in A. thaliana. In Chapter 6, I identify a suppressor of the smooth margin phenotype of cuc2 leaves that partially restores PIN1 localisation in the absence of functional CUC2. Finally, in the General Discussion I evaluate how interlinking feedback loops between CUC, KNOX and auxin pattern serration and leaflet development. I then discuss why interlinking feedback loops may have been deployed to control outgrowths in both plant and animal systems.
