Kun on tunteet:suomen kielen tunnesanojen semantiikkaa

Tuovila, S. (Seija) 29 August 2005 (has links)
Abstract The present study focuses on the semantics of Finnish emotion words (e.g. joy, anger). My aim has been to investigate and describe what kinds of linguistic-semantic interpretations arise from an emotions vocabulary compiled using a questionnaire as a research instrument. Moreover, I was interested in finding out what kinds of emotions the Finns identify. The data used for the study consisted of the written responses of a hundred Finns of various ages to a questionnaire item, which asked them to name various emotions. Besides the two objectives above, male and female conceptual frameworks for emotions were compared in the study, as well as those of different age groups. Both a qualitative and a quantitative analysis of the data, which consists of 2020 responses, were carried out. The view of language adopted for this study draws from the basic notions of cognitive linguistics. I applied Anna Wierzbicka's ideas to the semantic grouping of emotion words. Moreover, the explanations given for the 51 most commonly used emotion words were based on Wierzbicka's idea of a natural semantic meta-language. I also used for the word descriptions the information provided by the Kielipankki newspaper corpus on the use of emotion words. The semantic contents of emotion words were explained as prototypical scenarios using the following semantic primitives: I, PERSON/SOMEONE, SOMETHING, THIS, OTHER, GOOD, BAD, THINK, KNOW, WANT, FEEL, CAN, DO, HAPPEN, THERE IS, WHEN, NOW, BEFORE, AFTER, A LONG TIME, A SHORT TIME, FOR SOME TIME, SOMETIMES, MIND, BODY, NEAR, INSIDE, NOT, TRUE, MAYBE, CAN, WOULD 'cond.', BECAUSE, IF, VERY, LIKE, MORE, SOME. The following semantic main categories were defined for emotion words: "Something good happened or will happen", "Something bad happened or will happen", "I want", "I don't want", "I think something about myself", "I think something about others", "I know / don't know". I investigated the status and significance of emotion words for the speakers of Finnish by using a cognitive significance index. The index has been developed by Urmas Sutrop particularly for the analysis of listing tasks. The cognitively most important emotion words for Finns were found to be: viha, ilo, rakkaus, suru, pelko, onnellisuus, kateus, ahdistus, väsymys, masennus, tuska, ihastus, tyytyväisyys, inho, jännitys, pettymys, kaipaus, rauhallisuus, ikävä, and toivo. According to this study, the emotions with the highest frequency of expression in the Finnish language are hatred, joy, love and sorrow. Women were found to have more words for emotions (23.0) than men (17.6). The emotion vocabulary includes more negative words (53%) than positive ones (43%). The findings of this study suggest that the Finns think more often good of other people than bad, and more often bad of themselves than good. / Tiivistelmä Tutkimukseni aiheena on suomen kielen tunteiden (esim. ilo, viha) semantiikka. Tavoitteenani on ollut tutkia ja kuvata, millainen lingvistinen semanttinen tulkinta tutkimukseni kyselyllä koostetusta tunnesanastosta muodostuu ja millaisia tunteita suomalaiset mieltävät olevan olemassa. Tutkimukseni perusaineiston muodostivat sadan eri-ikäisen suomalaisen kirjalliset vastaukset tehtävään, jossa he saivat vapaasti luetella tunteiden nimityksiä. Selitin tunnesanojen merkityssisällöt prototyyppisinä skenaariona seuraavien semanttisten primitiivien avulla: MINÄ/ITSE, IHMINEN/HÄN/JOKU, ASIA/JOKIN, TÄMÄ, MUU/TOINEN, HYVÄ, PAHA/HUONO, AJATELLA, TIETÄÄ, HALUTA, TUNTEA, VOIDA, TEHDÄ, TAPAHTUA, OLLA / OLLA OLEMASSA, KUN, NYT, ENNEN, JÄLKEEN, KAUAN AIKAA, VÄHÄN AIKAA, JONKIN AIKAA, JOSKUS, MIELI, RUUMIS, LÄHELLÄ, SISÄLLÄ, EI/KIELTO, TOTTA, EHKÄ, SAATTAA, -ISI-, KOSKA/VUOKSI, JOS, HYVIN, KALTAISUUS, ENEMMÄN/LISÄÄ, VÄHÄN. Varsinaisista tunnesanoista hahmotin seuraavat päämerkitysryhmät: "Jotakin hyvää tapahtui tai tapahtuu", "Jotakin pahaa tapahtui tai tapahtuu", "Haluan", "En halua", "Ajattelen itsestäni jotain", "Ajattelen toisista jotain", "Tiedän / en tiedä". Selvitin aineistoni tunnesanojen asemaa ja tärkeyttä kielenpuhujien mielessä kognitiivisen tärkeyden indeksin avulla. Indeksin on kehitellyt Urmas Sutrop nimenomaan luettelointitehtävien analysointia varten.

Le vocabulaire politico-idéologique de la Gazeta de Lisboa au XVIIIe siècle : étude lexicale dans une perspective discursive / The politico-ideological vocabulary of the Gazeta de Lisboa in the eighteenth century : a lexical study in a discursive perspective / O vocabulário político-ideológico da Gazeta de Lisboa no século XVIII : estudo do léxico em perspectiva discursiva

Botta, Mariana Giacomini 25 May 2011 (has links)
This thesis provides an analysis of the ideological content expressed through the lexical units of the vocabulary of the first newspaper printed in Portuguese, the Gazeta de Lisboa. It also aims to highlight the linguistic and discursive strategies that are designed socially, and by which users of a language formulate their opinions and points of view through the lexicon. This study is linked to the to the linguistic theory of lexicology, developed in a discursive perspective, based on a dialogical model of enunciation, which believes that words carry the memory of past use and therefore have an intertextual dimension that determines their use according to the circumstances of utterance. We start from the stand point that dialogism is recorded in words, and the choice of language units used in the utterances is made on the basis of the interaction between reality andsense, which is built by the circulation of information in society. We selected 22 lexical units employed in the narration of disagreements or conflicts, relations of meaning between these units were analyzed, as well as the co-occurent lexical units and the ideas more often associated with them in the texts. Next, attention was focused on the discursive study of the occurrences of the word war, and we analyzed some intra-discursive and inter-discursive elements, and the gender. The studies made here prove that the choice of the elements of the lexicon used to name the referents in discourse is partly conditioned by the gender and the discursive practices associated with the words, which together highlight the point of view of the participants in the discourse and the knowledge shared by the society.

Ambiguity in XiTsonga

Hlongwana, Colfar January 2015 (has links)
Thesis (M.A. (Translation studies and Lingustics)) --University of Limpopo, 2015 / The aim of this study is to investigate ambiguity in Xitsonga. There are many kinds of ambiguity, but the study mainly focuses on lexical and structural ambiguity. Lexical ambiguity occurs at word level and is caused by homonyms (homophones and homographs) and polysemes. Structural ambiguity occurs at sentence level. This kind of ambiguity manifests in the structure of the sentence itself. Data were collected through self-observation as a native Xitsonga speaker. Words and sentences with multiple meanings in Xitsonga were listed and tree diagrams were used to illustrate and disambiguate ambiguity. The study reveals that, like other languages, Xitsonga has words and sentences with double or many meanings. KEYWORDS AMBIGUITY, LEXICAL AMBIGUITY, STRUCTURAL AMBIGUITY, HOMONYM, HOMOPHONES, HOMOGRAPHS, POLYSEMES.

Uma análise das criações lexicais mais frequentes na tradução da série Harry Potter para o português brasileiro /

Rodrigues, Tiago Pereira. January 2018 (has links)
(Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo) / Abstract: This research deals with the morphology, the meanings and the symbologies of 35 most frequent lexical creations in the British version of the Harry Potter series and of their linguistic correspondents belonging to the Brazilian version. In this sense, one of the aims of the research was to identify the most recurrent lexical creation processes among the words in both versions. Another aim was to verify whether the creative processes of the words that were not maintained in the target text influenced the morphological and lexical choices of the translator of the series in Brazil, in the creation of new lexical forms and in the use of words already existing in Portuguese in new contexts or with new meanings, in the target text. For both aims, the creative processes and the primary meanings of the words in question were described. Also, to facilitate the consultation of the analysed lexical creations and to contextualise them, a bilingual glossary was elaborated. Furthermore, among the obtained data, the words Dumbledore, Malfoy and Quirrell, which were maintained in translation, were selected, in order to carry out a comparative and detailed analysis about the symbolic relations involving these three words, in the source and target texts. In theoretical and methodological terms, translation was considered as an interpretative activity that produces meanings and never escapes the hierarchy of cultural values existing in the target language. Furthermore, the presuppositions from ... (Complete abstract click electronic access below) / Mestre

Lexikální a pragmatická rovina ve Völkischer Beobachter, nejdůležitějších německých novinách Druhé světové války / Lexical and pragmatic aspects of the Völkischer Beobachter, the most important newspaper during the Second World War

Kiesenbauerová, Isabella January 2021 (has links)
The presented thesis examines lexical and pragmatic instruments used by the leading newspaper in Germany during the Second World War, the Völkischer Beobachter. The objective is to determine the importance of the choice of lexical and pragmatic instruments and the communication strategy applied to influence readers. The targeting of readers by the press is illustrated by descriptions of the political climate and specific historical events. The thesis links language, history and wartime politics. By drawing on academic literature, the author describes the historical context preceding the Second World War, focusing on political events and press bans. Selected key wartime events are linked to linguistic analysis. The National Socialist ideology, led by Adolf Hitler, assists in demonstrating the origins of the typical features of National Socialist language. The newspapers themselves, Völkischer Beobachter, and selected linguistic and pragmatic phenomena are also described. The selected examples were chosen on the basis of a search in the Völkischer Beobachter and subsequent analysis. The linguistic analysis consists of a lexicological classification into linguistic devices of emotionality, expressivity, metaphor, metonymy and idiomatic expressions. The pragmatic devices as communication strategies and...

Italianismy v evropské španělštině - diachronní pohled / Italianisms in European Spanish - Historical View

Čížková, Jana January 2022 (has links)
The topic of this Master's degree thesis are the lexical loanwords from Italian to European Spanish from the diachronic point of view. The first part is dedicated to the problems of language contact focused on lexical borrowings, followed by the characteristics of Italianisms and the history of the mutual contact of Spain and Italy, that led to the adoption of Italian word in Spanish and vice versa. The adaption of Italianisms in Spanish language is also analysed. The research part of this work is based on the so far most extensive and complex publication about Italianisms in Spanish, which at the same time has been strongly criticized by the science community. The expressions marked in Terlingen's work as Italianisms from the field of commerce are submitted to dictionary analysis. Based on approximately 70 historical, etymological and contemporary Spanish dictionaries, it is being verified whether the chosen words are truly loanwords of Italian origin. Every entry has its origin, meaning and ortographical variations evaluated, and the attention is also drawn to the period of time of their first occurrence and their use in Spanish. These aspects are being studied both in historical and the contemporary language. Last, the conclusions about mercantile Italianisms in Spanish are phrased and the...
