Soil Moisture Monitoring System Using LoRaWAN TechnologyJohansson, Marcus January 2021 (has links)
An IoT device measuring soil moisture to help a municipality improve the work surrounding irrigation is deployed for testing and used by the concerned municipal workers. The IoT device is an initial prototype using Pycom’s LoPy4 with expansion board 3.1 and 3xAAA batteries as power supply. The prototype is not suitable for larger-scale testing due to the size, cost, and power consumption. This thesis focuses on decreasing the cost and size while increasing the battery life for the IoT device. The IoT device is communicating using the LoRaWAN protocol. For the device to be as energy-efficient as possible, the LoRa and LoRaWAN protocol are explored to use all possibilities to save energy. Active time and power consumption between different spreading factors are examined and discussed for power consumption and range concerns. The prototype produced by the work performed in this thesis is used to measure soil moisture. The microcontrollers selected and tested will not restrict to that purpose. The microcontrollers can integrate with many kinds of sensors. Integration with other types of sensors is under future work in this thesis. The integration possibilities making the thesis relevant for anyone with an intermediate knowledge inprogramming wanting to get introduced into the IoT development cycle, develop aLoRa node, and learning how to use the LoRaWAN stack with MicroPython.

An evaluation of LoRa transmission parameter selection for indoor positioningValjakka, Adina, Ahlinder, Anton January 2022 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how the LoRa modulation configuration affects precision and accuracy when using LoRa for indoor positioning in non-line-of-sight conditions. The aim is to research if an optimum combination of spreading factor, bandwidth, and code rate factor can be found to result in the best possible positioning accuracy and precision, under certain predefined conditions. An experiment was conducted, where quantitative data was collected from an experimental setup. The experiment consisted of two testbeds which also included an analysis between them. Two kinds of test units were used in the experiment. The LoRa 868 MHz transmitter, which represented the unknown position, and the receivers that were used to estimate the position of the transmitter. The experiment gathered the RSSI values between the transmitter and receivers at different configurations and locations. The data collected from the experiment were analyzed using mathematical theory to answer the research question. The most accurate and precise value for each individual transmission parameter was established in the first testbed and used as the base data rates in the second testbed, to evaluate the best performing parameters simultaneously. The mean accuracy in testbed 1 varied from 180 cm to 388 cm, and the mean precision ranged between 0.432 dBm to 1.298 dBm. The mean accuracy in testbed 2 varied from 341 cm to 455 cm, and the mean precision ranged between 0.275 dBm to 1.495 dBm. The experimental results indicate no connections between the data rate and precision. No correlation is found between the accuracy and the data rate. The standard deviation and absolute error fluctuate independently of the data rate and the transmitter position. In regard to the given results, the authors conclude that no linear relationship is found between the LoRa modulation configuration and the precision and accuracy of a position, in the selected environment. The experimental results show that LoRa could be used for indoor positioning applications where a rough estimation of a position is adequate since the mean accuracy is quite low for almost all tested modulation configurations. There could be applications where other factors, such as the energy consumption or communication range, are of more importance than accuracy. For those applications, LoRa could still be an adequate choice of technology.

Direct Preference Optimization for Improved Technical WritingAssistance : A Study of How Language Models Can Support the Writing of Technical Documentation at Saab / En studie i hur språkmodeller kan stödja skrivandet av teknisk dokumentation på SaabBengtsson, Hannes, Habbe, Patrik January 2024 (has links)
This thesis explores the potential of Large Language Models (LLMs) to assist in the technical documentation process at Saab. With the increasing complexity and regulatory demands on such documentation, the objective is to investigate advanced natural language processing techniques as a means of streamlining the creation of technical documentation. Although many standards exist, this thesis particularly focuses on the standard ASD-STE100, Simplified Technical English abbrv. STE, a controlled language for technical documentation. STE's primary aim is to ensure that technical documents are understandable to individuals regardless of their native language or English proficiency. The study focuses on the implementation of Direct Preference Optimization (DPO) and Supervised Instruction Fine-Tuning (SIFT) to refine the capabilities of LLMs in producing clear and concise outputs that comply with STE. Through a series of experiments, we investigate the effectiveness of LLMs in interpreting and simplifying technical language, with a particular emphasis on adherence to STE standards. The study utilizes a dataset comprised of target data paired with synthetic source data generated by a LLM. We apply various model training strategies, including zero-shot performance, supervised instruction fine-tuning, and direct preference optimization. We evaluate the various models' output using established quantitative metrics for text simplification and substitute human evaluators with company internal software for evaluating adherence to company standards and STE. Our findings suggest that while LLMs can significantly contribute to the technical writing process, the choice of training methods and the quality of data play crucial roles in the model's performance. This study shows how LLMs can improve productivity and reduce manual work. It also looks at the problems and suggests ways to make technical documentation automation better in the future.

In 2006, the Brazilian government instituted the national system of automatic vehicle identification (SINIAV), whose main objective is to control all vehicles through radio frequency identification (RFID) technology. However, this project has a great technological challenge regarding connectivity and data transmission when applied within cities, which may hinder its scalability. Therefore, the objective of this dissertation is to study the technical feasibility of the use of LoRa for the transmission of data from the electronic surveillance of vehicles through RFID. Then, a performance analysis of a system composed of an RFID antenna to perform the readings of the tags and a LoRa transmitter to send those readings to a gateway connected to the Internet was performed and the packet loss rate metrics (PER) and LoRa transmission throughput rates were measured. The results show that in certain scenarios it is possible to obtain a packet loss rate of less than 20% and a packet sending rate of more than 60 packets per minute, which makes the use of LoRa a viable technology for this enforcement application and other applications related to Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS).

Zařízení pro zaznamenávání proudové spotřeby LPWA senzorů / Design of a current data logger for LPWA sensorsMikulášek, Michal January 2020 (has links)
This Master thesis deals with the design and construction of a measuring device for measuring and the current consumption logging of sensors using LPWAN (Low Power Wide Area Network) technology. The theoretical part of the thesis firstly summarizes selected LPWAN technologies. Selected technologies, namely: LoRaWAN, Sigfox and Narrowband IoT (NB-IoT), are described more in detail. Further, the current measurement techniques are briefly discussed. The main focus is given to the current shunt measuring methods. The second half of thesis describes procedures conducted during the design and construction of a measuring device. The current measuring is based on the current shunt circuit complemented by the voltage amplification circuit, whose output is subsquently converted into digital form using an AD converter. The thesis describes in great detail the procedures for selecting individual components and important processes used in design of printed circuit boards. An integral part of the measuring device implementation is the design and implementation of control software, which is described in detail and supplemented by workflow charts underlining the entire description. The implementation of the entire measuring device is completed by the design and implementation of the cover box using 3D printing technology. Finally, the specifications of designed device are briefly discussed based on the limits of the used components.

IIoT-based Instrumentation and Control System for a Lateral Micro-drilling Robot Using Machine Fault Diagnosis and Failure PrognosisJose A. Solorio Cervantes (11191893) 11 October 2023 (has links)
<p dir="ltr">This project aimed to develop an instrumentation and control system for a micro-drilling robot based on Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) technologies. The automation system integrated IIoT technological tools to create a robust automation system capable of being used in drilling operations. The system incorporated industrial-grade sensors, which carried out direct measurements of the critical variables of the process. The indirect variables relevant to the control of the robot were calculated from the measured parameters. The system also considered the telemetry architecture necessary to reliably transmit data from the down-the-hole (DTH) robot to a receiver on the surface. Telemetry was based on wireless communication through long-range radio frequency (LoRa). The system developed had models based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) for determining the mode of operation, detecting changes in the process, and changes in drilling variables in critical hydraulic components for the drilling process. Algorithms based on AI and ML models also allowed the user to make better decisions based on the variables' correlation to optimize the drilling process (e.g., dynamic change of flow, pressure, and RPMs based on automatic rock identification). A user interface (UI) was developed, and digital tools to perform data analysis were implemented. Safety assessment in all robot systems (e.g., electrical, hardware, software) was contemplated as a critical design component. The result of this research project provides innovative micro-drilling robots with the necessary technological tools to optimize the drilling process. The system made drilling more efficient, reliable, and safe, providing diagnostic and prognostic tools that allowed planning maintenance based on the actual health of the devices. The system that was developed was tested in a test bench under controlled conditions within a laboratory to characterize the system and collect data that allowed ML models' development, training, validation, and testing. The prototype of a micro-drilling robot installed on the test bench served as a case study to assess the implemented models' reliability and the proposed telemetry.</p>

Site-specificity in The educators new clothes by Mark Rautenbach / Mošomo ya bokgabo ya ka lefelong le itšego ka go bkogabo bjo bo bitšwago The educators new clothes ka Mark Rautenbach / Plekspesifisiteit in The educator's new clothes deur Mark RautenbachCloete, Zelda 12 1900 (has links)
Text in English, with summaries and keywords in English, Sesotho and Afrikaans / This study is an enquiry into how The educator’s new clothes by Mark
Rautenbach is an example of site-specific art. The aim is to demonstrate how boundaries in TENC become blurred between site-specific performance, other art forms, and every-day activities. The key concepts explored are: Rautenbach’s approach to the concept of site, the connections that develop between his performance and each site that he travels to; his use of the art gallery and viewer participation. Through literature study relevant theory is explored, and several arguments are applied in a selective manner to my analysis of TENC. Various International and South African site-specific artworks are discussed as an indication of how site-specificity can be applied in alternative ways. In October 2017 I installed GREENER?, a site-specific exhibition in the UNISA Art gallery. The works on the show underline the theoretical findings and highlight the flexible application of theory relating to site-specificity. / Dinyakišišo tše ke phatišišo mabapi le seo se dirago bokgabo bja The

Art History, Visual Arts and Musicology / M.V.A.
