Testing Local Municipality Hiring Procedures and Local Forms of Government: Are Search Engines and Social Media Sites Used to Collect Supplemental Information about Applicants?

Denton, Joseph Wayne 11 December 2015 (has links)
The relationship between the government and the governed is transforming into a digital collaboration of operations. The level of intensity for this collaboration between government and citizens have fallen behind that of the private sector. Web 2.0 tools, otherwise known as social media, internet search engines, and e-Government are now a stimulant for citizens to become informed about their government actions and to also interact with government in order to provide input to elected officials and appointed officials from citizens to the government concerning public policy making and other public concerns. This research seeks to examine the question of whether forms of local government and their hiring practices have any effect on the way local municipalities conduct their background checks using social media and search engines as supplemental information to traditional background checks. The author examines a representative sample of 871 municipalities within the U.S. having a population of 2,500 or greater. The local form of government hiring procedures characteristics of these 871 municipalities are measured using two separate independent variables. The effects of the forms of local government hiring procedures are measured using independent T-tests and Z-tests for regions selected by the U.S. Census Bureau and population size of these municipalities, municipalities that offer e-Government, and the total forms of e-Government offered. The first four hypotheses, which are especially central to this dissertation, were all rejected. Local government form, population, and region are not correlated with use of social media and search engines to obtain supplemental information about applicants. There were 448 out of 871 hiring managers in municipalities responding to this survey, 51 percent, that confirm searching social media to find supplemental information about applicants. Characteristics of the hiring managers for this study show a correlation between social media and search engines being used to obtain supplemental information about applicants, however, statistical significance was not obtained for these core hypotheses. Minor hypotheses in this study did prove to show significance between hiring managers and the use of social media and search engines to obtain supplemental information about applicants.

Karren On Quatsino Fm. Dip Slopes Recently Exposed By Deforestation Northern Vancouver Island

Gladysz, Kathleen Joan 10 August 1987 (has links)
<p> This study reports on karren forms on limestone dip slopes, which were recently exposed by deforestation on the Quatsino Formation and observable relationships of the karren features of a specific sl~pe are represented as a detailed map. Also, many relationships of gravitomorphic runnel characteristics are analyzed for significance. Runnel types being considered are Hortonian, decantation and composite forms. Solution runnel width, depth and width/depth ratio are studied in association with length. These relationships determine whether the runnel types conform to a theoretical model. Typical aeas·ares of the karren in this area were also recorded. Composite forms are the most abundant because Hortonian and decantation runnels amalgamate beyond about 3m to form composites. All the runnel types, excluding the decanters, illustrate the perfect minimum friction open-channel cross-section. </p> / Thesis / Bachelor of Arts (BA)

One-Size-(does not)-Fit-All : Adult immigrant students' understanding of the determinants for success in learning Swedish as a second language

McEvoy, Caitlin January 2016 (has links)
This thesis explores the experiences of adult immigrant students within four different classes of the course Swedish as a second language (svenska som andraspråk :SAS), which is a standardized course offered around Sweden.  This course is structured by the national school board in Sweden and is aimed as a social policy for integration through language acquisition and learning to navigate Swedish society.  By conducting anthropological research among these students, I sought to uncover more regarding the determinants for success within the course and how students mediate and experience the one-size-fits-all course structure despite the asymmetrically distributed forms of capital within the classroom. Students responded with resentment and frustration, which highlights how this structure for education can be ineffective and suffers from a lack of ‘pedagogic transmission.’ This thesis will highlight the determinants of success that should be incorporated into the structure and execution of SAS as well as putting the students’ voices on a platform that is not often regarded when designing curriculums.

The attainment of personal catharsis through the realisation of the dislocation between the internal and external expressive forms of the self

Muller, Teresa 03 1900 (has links)
Thesis (MDram (Drama))--University of Stellenbosch, 2010. / ENGLISH ABSTRACT: This study is aimed at establishing what personal catharsis is, specifically defining what it is and under what conditions it may occur. During the creation and execution of an autobiographical solo, I had gone through a process of attaining what has since been labelled personal catharsis and recognition of the other, which gave arise to me finding confidence and discovering my creative voice of identity. However, it was not known when or how these processes took place. In addition I was not certain exactly what personal catharsis was in the context of me and my identity. An investigate was also needed into the possibility of generalising personal catharsis as a process that could guide people towards gaining confidence and finding their creative voice of identity. In this thesis, the process of the creation of the autobiographical solo is deconstructed. In doing so the journey of the discovery of the other is highlighted and the role of recognition between the inner expressive form and the external expressive form. Through the means of a source study the concepts of behaviour and the other in reference to identity construction and performance of everyday self are discussed. Then personal catharsis is explored in comparison to the traditional use of the term. Using performance-based research methodologies in conjunction with a questionnaire, a 12-week series of workshops was held to explore the generalisation of personal catharsis and the issues that arose during the study. The workshops were aimed at investigating the possibility of creating a process to attain personal catharsis. It was found that personal catharsis is a subjective process that takes place through the recognition of the external expressive form. It is through this recognition that the dislocation of self can be reconnected and the other can become more transparent to the internal expressive form. This process is readily attained through the exploration of the character of self. However, although new behaviour can result from personal catharsis, the individual needs to choose the internal expressive form as the dominant part in expressive behaviour.

Architecture patterns in web applications and implementation of find local food

Latifi, Naim January 2010 (has links)
<p>Nowadays there are different forms and technologies for implementing web applications without much concern for their architectural model. Without a good and stable architecture those applications may fail during their operations. Thus, this thesis project is focused on exploring different architectural models for creation of web solutions. Moreover, this thesis project is also part of the collaboration between Linnaeus University and Ljungby municipality with the aim to create a system that grow up local economies by showing the local producers’ locations, providing customers with different information about the products etc. The result of the thesis shows that an application can be developed in various architectural models. The choice of one architectural model over another depends on the project needs. I found that by using ASP.NET MVC framework there is more separation of concerns, easy maintenance of the code, and unit testing for an application. Search engine of find local food system can be used to search for different local producer’s location and their services.</p><p> </p>

A Classification of all Hecke Eigenform Product Identities

Johnson, Matthew Leander January 2012 (has links)
In this dissertation, we give a complete classification and list all identities of the form h = fg, where f , g and h are Hecke eigenforms of any weight with respect to Γ₁(N). This result extends the work of Ghate [Gha02] who considered this question for eigenforms with respect to Γ₁(N), with N square-free and f and g of weight 3 or greater. We remove all restrictions on the level N and the weights of f and g. For N = 1 there are only 16 eigenform identities, which are classically known. We first give a new proof of the level N = 1 case. We then give a proof which classifies all such eigenform identities for all levels N > 1. The identities fall into two categories. There are two infinite families of identities, given in Table 7.2. There are 209 other identities, listed (up to conjugacy) in Table 7.1. Thus any eigenform identity h = f g with respect to Γ₁(N) is either conjugate to an identity in Table 7.1 or takes the form of an identity described in Table 7.2.

Battle of forms : En analys av lämpliga lösningsmodeller

Avdic, Denis January 2017 (has links)
