Knotenfärbungen mit Abstandsbedingungen

Kohl, Anja 30 August 2006 (has links)

Impacto de iconoplástica y diseño de información en etiquetado octogonal de productos industrializados en Lima Moderna / Iconoplastic and design information impact on front-of-pack labelling of industrialized products for young adults in Lima Moderna

Espinoza Miranda, Rocío del Milagro 02 July 2019 (has links)
The main objective for this research is to analyze the importance of iconoplastic and design information to create a better perception on front-of-pack labelling of industrialized products. For this reason, the hypothesis is that the intervention approach of the iconoplastic study and design information on front-of-pack labelling creates a better perception in young adults. This research is qualitative because surveys were made to 50 consumers that confirms their visual disturbance about the front-of-pack labelling design. Also, lawyers and Agro-industrial engineers were interviewed to prove that this labelling could be modified in the future. Finally, designers were also interviewed to corroborate some graphic design technical issues. The research’s solution consists on modifying the front-of-pack labelling of industrialized products. For this, a grid was used for organizing all the information to create uniformity between the symbols, the form was changed from octagon to hexagon, the typography was changed to Franklin Gothic Condensed because it leaves more blank space for the composition. As a result, it was obtained that consumers consider this is a good solution because the symbols are organized in a better way. The conclusions that were found at the end of this project are that the iconoplastic study and the design information help to resolve graphic problems that preset the front-of-pack labelling because the information is organized on grids. Also, this project was only tested on a small group of people, but they consider this solution could generate impact in any public because the information is better organized. / Trabajo de investigación

Etude du repliement des protéines au sein d'une chaperonine / Study of protein folding within a chaperonin

Colas Debled, Elisa 02 April 2019 (has links)
Chaperonins are molecular machineries involved in the prevention of protein misfolding. These large macromolecules (approximately 1 MDa) are present in all domains of life and globally organized in two stacked rings on top of one another, hosting a cavity in their respective centers. By hydrolyzing ATP within their cavities, these rings can switch between twomajor structural states, an open and a closed conformation, to trap and refold misfolded proteins. Among the different types of molecular chaperones, chaperonins are of particular interest because their mechanism of action is not yet totally understood. This thesis focused on the study of PhCPN, the Chaperonin fromPyrococcus horikoshii, and its interaction with substrate proteins by various biochemical and biophysical techniques including NMR. In fact, NMR spectroscopy is a powerful tool to probe transient interactions in solution, at atomic resolution. Especially, specific isotope labeling of methyl groups is a technique of choice to study huge protein assemblies such as PhCPN chaperonin because they overcome the liquid-state NMR size limitation. To study the protein folding within the cavities of PhCPN, two different model substrate of various sizes and biological functions were selected. Particularly, one of these substrates (Malate Synthase G /MSG) forms amorphous aggregates when submitted to heat while the other (Amylin) is able to self-associate into amyloid fibrils. During this thesis, I have demonstrated that the Chaperonin PhCPN can prevent the aggregation of the chosen substrates. In fact, the PhCPN Chaperonin is able to irreversibly bind thermally unfoldedMSGin a 1/1 ratio. TheMSG/PhCPN complex was isolated and characterized. Especially, theinteraction surface between PhCPN and this large substrate protein was investigated using a combination of NMR and EM.In addition, the inhibition of the Amylin fibrillation by the Chaperonin was investigated using NMR and ThT fluorescence assays. It was shown that the Chaperonin delays the fibrils formation, no matter its oligomeric state. The role of the Chaperonin on the Amylin nucleation and fibril elongation mechanisms was investigated.

Labels, Stigma and Sick Roles in a Therapeutic Culture: The Case of Developmental Coordination Disorder

DeRoche, Christina 04 1900 (has links)

Labelling Theory stipulates that once an individual exhibits deviant behaviour, such as acting outside of the norm, the public and even close relatives will react to this behaviour by labelling it. Some of these labels result in social and psychological consequences for the individual, and Labelling theorists argue that, at the very extreme, they culminate in a self-fulfilling prophecy wherein the labelled individual fulfills the expectations others have placed upon him/her. Labelling Theory has been questioned for its lack of consistent supporting empirical evidence and still faces much scrutiny by leaving many unanswered questions, particularly within educational contexts. Several societal changes have created a profoundly different climate for labelling in the domains of mental health and education and beg the re-evaluation of labelling theory’s original arguments.

This dissertation empirically tests the main tenets of Labelling Theory within an educational setting by exploring the experiences of children identified as having symptoms of Developmental Coordination Disorder in aNorthern Ontariocity. This study finds that children who are yet undiagnosed with DCD are often stigmatized not only by their peers, but also by educators, public, and even close relatives. However, those children who were formally labelled were granted more opportunities and were often more accommodated within the educational context. It also finds that formally labelled children often had varying degrees of self-confidence; conversely, those who were not labelled or awaiting diagnosis were often more critical of their abilities and were frequently socially isolated. Finally, this study found that parents played an active role in acquiring formal labels and services for their children throughout the diagnostic process and afterwards. These findings have implications for educational and health care related policies and future research for Labelling Theory.
/ Doctor of Philosophy (PhD)

A proteomic investigation to discover candidate proteins involved in novel mechanisms of 5-fluorouracil resistance in colorectal cancer

Duran, M. Ortega, Shaheed, Sadr-ul, Sutton, Chris W., Shnyder, Steven 14 February 2024 (has links)
Yes / One of the main obstacles to therapeutic success in colorectal cancer (CRC) is the development of acquired resistance to treatment with drugs such as 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). Whilst some resistance mechanisms are well known, it is clear from the stasis in therapy success rate that much is still unknown. Here, a proteomics approach is taken towards identification of candidate proteins using 5-FU-resistant sublines of human CRC cell lines generated in house. Using a multiplexed stable isotope labelling with amino acids in cell culture (SILAC) strategy, 5-FU-resistant and equivalently passaged sensitive cell lines were compared to parent cell lines by growing in Heavy medium with 2D liquid chromatography and Orbitrap Fusion™ Tribrid™ Mass Spectrometry analysis. Among 3003 commonly quantified proteins, six (CD44, APP, NAGLU, CORO7, AGR2, PLSCR1) were found up-regulated, and six (VPS45, RBMS2, RIOK1, RAP1GDS1, POLR3D, CD55) down-regulated. A total of 11 of the 12 proteins have a known association with drug resistance mechanisms or role in CRC oncogenesis. Validation through immunodetection techniques confirmed high expression of CD44 and CD63, two known drug resistance mediators with elevated proteomics expression results. The information revealed by the sensitivity of this method warrants it as an important tool for elaborating the complexity of acquired drug resistance in CRC. / Sadr ul-Shaheed and the University of Bradford Proteomics Facility were supported by Yorkshire Cancer Research, UK (Cancer Medicine Discovery II, grant B381PA).

Meta-Pseudo Labelled Multi-View 3D Shape Recognition / Meta-pseudomärking med Bilder från Flera Kameravinklar för 3D Objektigenkänning

Uçkun, Fehmi Ayberk January 2023 (has links)
The field of computer vision has long pursued the challenge of understanding the three-dimensional world. This endeavour is further fuelled by the increasing demand for technologies that rely on accurate perception of the 3D environment such as autonomous driving and augmented reality. However, the labelled data scarcity in the 3D domain continues to be a hindrance to extensive research and development. Semi-Supervised Learning is a valuable tool to overcome data scarcity yet most of the state-of-art methods are primarily developed and tested for two-dimensional vision problems. To address this challenge, there is a need to explore innovative approaches that can bridge the gap between 2D and 3D domains. In this work, we propose a technique that both leverages the existing abundance of two-dimensional data and makes the state-of-art semi-supervised learning methods directly applicable to 3D tasks. Multi-View Meta Pseudo Labelling (MV-MPL) combines one of the best-performing architectures in 3D shape recognition, Multi-View Convolutional Neural Networks, together with the state-of-art semi-supervised method, Meta Pseudo Labelling. To evaluate the performance of MV-MPL, comprehensive experiments are conducted on widely used shape recognition benchmarks ModelNet40, ShapeNetCore-v1, and ShapeNetCore-v2, as well as, Objaverse-LVIS. The results demonstrate that MV-MPL achieves competitive accuracy compared to fully supervised models, even when only \(10%\) of the labels are available. Furthermore, the study reveals that the object descriptors extracted from the MV-MPL model exhibit strong performance on shape retrieval tasks, indicating the effectiveness of the approach beyond classification objectives. Further analysis includes the evaluation of MV-MPL under more restrained scenarios, the enhancements to the view aggregation and pseudo-labelling processes; and the exploration of the potential of employing multi-views as augmentations for semi-supervised learning.

INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY, TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND BIODIVERSITY IN THE GLOBAL ECONOMY: THE POTENTIAL OF GEOGRAPHICAL INDICATIONS FOR PROTECTING TRADITIONAL KNOWLEDGE-BASED AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTS

Dagne, Teshager Worku 01 March 2012 (has links)
The relationship between international regimes regulating intellectual property, traditional knowledge and biodiversity has received much attention in recent times. Of the many complex and controversial issues in contemporary international legal discourse on this matter, the protection of traditional knowledge (TK) stands out as a significant challenge. Choices abound in the search for modalities to regulate rights to use and control TK systems and their underlying biodiversity. In recent times, the protection of geographical indications (GIs) has emerged as an option for protecting TK. Despite the considerable enthusiasm over it, there is appreciable research dearth on how far and in what context GIs can be used as a protection model. Indeed, not only is the concept of GIs itself widely misunderstood. As well, analyses as to their applicability for protecting TK often reflect underlying cultural differences in the nature, scope and the jurisprudence regarding GIs across jurisdictions. This thesis examines the relationship between GIs and TK, focusing on the responsiveness of GIs to the needs and desires of indigenous peoples and local communities (ILCs). The thesis posits that the search for a model to protect TK should involve identifying different modalities, including those based on intellectual property, to fit to the nature and uses of TK in particular contexts. The analysis conceptualizes GIs as a form of IP that are structurally and functionally suitable to protect aspects of TK in traditional knowledge-based agricultural products (TKBAPs). Substantively, the thesis draws attention to the conceptual underpinnings of GIs as encompassing cultural and economic objectives in the protection of TK. As such, it is argued that stronger protection of GIs should be achieved by integrating the negotiations and discussion concerning GIs and TK at the international level. Further, the case is made for the determination of immediate challenges and long-term opportunities in choosing a legal means for protecting GIs at the national level. In this connection, the thesis suggests that the potential of GIs to meet national and local imperatives to protect TK be assessed, inter alia, based on their instrumentality for economic, biodiversity, cultural and food security objectives in protecting TKBAPs.
