Margens silenciadas : arte colaborativa e a busca por protagonismo

Graça, Luiza Abrantes da January 2016 (has links)
This master research discuss, through authors from the visual arts and other areas, such as sociology and anthropology, the interpersonal relationships in two collective and collaborative works, focusing in the roles that each one practice in the productions and questioning if their social and cultural peculiarities are present in these activities. Focusing in the collective groups Sopapo de Mulheres, from Porto Alegre, and Dulcinéia Catadora, from São Paulo, both formed by women, the present master thesis question how these two groups assemble to their agendas the particularities, becomings, of each person, and how these negotiations enable art works based in the collaboration and leading role of its members. Pursuing a dialogue with other studies about collaborative art made in Brazil, assumptions are raised about the progressive production of collaborative works in the country’s suburb zones, as well as the transformations that their origin and context place suffer after agency services modify ordinary distributions, rearranging roles and creating new audiences.

Juggling in the middle : Middle managers’ perceptions on leading through the complexity of change

Bergkvist, Fanny, Johansson D'Ath, Anna January 2016 (has links)
Dealing with change is crucial for organizations in order to survive in today's constantly changing business environment, such tasks are included in the role of the middle managers’. There are plenty of studies made on change and how managers’ successfully should lead through change, but managers’ own perceptions and considerations of what is important when proceeding with change, seems less researched. The aim of this paper is to contribute with a better understanding of how middle managers’ perceive their own position and leadership in change. A case study was conducted on a large international company within the construction and property development industry. The study is based on significant competences and procedures required by middle managers’, when leading through change. The methodology used was a deductive and qualitative approach, and contain in-depth interviews on middle managers’ perceptions on change. In total, 18 middle managers’ was interviewed and the interviews were then transcribed, thematized and presented through quotes. Our results indicate that middle managers’ perception of leading teams through change is a difficult process due to the often short time frames, high expectations coming from above and leadership norms shaped in society. From a learning perspective, a change process is suggested to be less focused on the leader and rather enable the whole team to manage change. The most neglected aspects of learning was to take the time to reflect and to consider mistakes as part of a learning process.

Reinterpreting Schumann: A Study of Large-Scale Structural and Atmospheric Associations in Schumann's 'Frauenliebe und -leben' and 'Dichterliebe' Song Cycles

Berry, Jane M January 2011 (has links)
The study of song cycles poses difficulties for both analysts and performers. These challenges stem largely from two qualities intrinsic to the genre: (1) the inclusion of two semiotic systems, language and music, and (2) the use of multi-movement structures. Several scholars have addressed these issues; however, a model built on a balanced consideration of both text-based/dramatic events and purely musical elements, has yet to be offered. This study proposes such a model with separate applications for both performers and analysts. Focusing on the identification of features connecting song cycles in their entirety, deep voice-leading associations and movements in key paths are examined in the application for analysts, whereas the performers’ application concentrates on recognizing underlying “atmospheres” and forms of acceleration. Each application is applied to Schumann’s Frauenliebe und –leben and Dichterliebe song cycles, demonstrating the benefits of employing this model in the development of both performative and analytical interpretations.

Maximum heat transfer rate density from a rotating multiscale array of cylinders

Ogunronbi, Oluseun Ifeanyi 11 July 2011 (has links)
This work investigated a numerical approach to the search of a maximum heat transfer rate density (the overall heat transfer dissipated per unit of volume) from a two-dimensional laminar multiscale array of cylinders in cross-flow under an applied fixed pressure drop and subject to the constraint of fixed volume. It was furthermore assumed that the flow field was steady state and incompressible. The configuration had two degrees of freedom in the stationary state, that is, the spacing between the cylinders and the diameter of the smaller cylinders. The angular velocity of the cylinders was in the range 0 ≤ ϖ, ≤ 0.1. Two cylinders of different diameters were used, in the first case, the cylinders were aligned along a plane which lay on their centrelines. In the second case, the cylinder leading edge was aligned along the plane that received the incoming fluid at the same time. The diameter of the smaller cylinder was fixed at the optimal diameter obtained when the cylinders were stationary. Tests were conducted for co-rotating and counterrotating cylinders. The results were also compared with results obtained in the open literature and the trend was found to be the same. Results showed that the heat transfer from a rotating array of cylinders was enhanced in certain cases and this was observed for both directions of rotation from an array which was aligned on the centreline. For rotating cylinders with the same leading edge, there is heat transfer suppression and hence the effect of rotation on the maximum heat transfer rate density is insignificant. This research is important in further understanding of heat transfer from rotating cylinders, which can be applied to applications ranging from contact cylinder dryers in the chemical processes industry and rotating cylinder electrodes to devices used for roller hearth furnaces. / Dissertation (MEng)--University of Pretoria, 2011. / Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering / unrestricted

Angular Distribution of Prompt Photons Using the Compact Muon Solenoid Detector at √S =7 TeV

Werner, Vanessa Gaultney 14 September 2012 (has links)
The study of the angular distribution of photon plus jet events in pp collisions at √S =7 TeV with the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector is presented. The photon is restricted to the central region of the detector (|η| < 1.4442) while the jet is allowed to be present in both central and forward regions of CMS |η| < 2.4). Dominant backgrounds due to jets fragmenting into neutral mesons are accounted for through the use of a template method that discriminates between signal and background. The angular distribution, |η*|, is defined as the absolute value of the difference in η between the leading photon and leading jet in an event divided by two. The angular distribution ranging from 0-1.4 was examined and compared with next-to-leading order QCD predictions and was found to be in good agreement.

Rhythmic maximal evenness: rhythm in voice-leading space

Benoit, Hannah 04 June 2019 (has links)
Maximal evenness was first introduced in the music theory domain by John Clough and Jack Douthett. Later, the concept was explored by others such as Dmitri Tymoczko and Richard Cohn. Although maximal evenness was first explored with respect to pitch-classes, the concept can be understood in the rhythmic domain. An explanation of voice-leading space can be found here to create a conceptual foundation before departing to the implications of maximal evenness on rhythm. This thesis will then explore the concept further by exploring music from Steve Reich and György Ligeti to demonstrate the applicability and deeper understanding of the concept.

Stres a copingové strategie u pracovníků na vedoucích pozicích z perspektivy genderu / Stress and the coping strategies of the lead workers from the perspective of gender

Nováková, Monika January 2021 (has links)
In this master's thesis, we present a theoretically-critical analysis of the current academic thinking with regard to the differences between men and women as the lead workers in terms of specific stressors and the use of specific coping strategies. In the theoretical part, we analysed the topic of the specific requirements managers need to meet and the associated stressors. The empirical part analysed the differences in the use of coping strategies between men and women. Probands (of sample size 2105, men N = 1307, women N = 798) completed the Stress Management Questionnaire consisting of twelve coping strategies. The questionnaire distinguishes strategies aimed at resolving situations from those that protect mental well-being. Regarding the use of these twelve coping strategies, the results of the one-way MANOVA multivariate analysis revealed a significant difference (F(12,2092)=10.7, p<0.001) between men and women. A significant difference was revealed on the scale of strategies aimed at resolving situations, in which case men used these strategies significantly more than women. Univariate tests revealed significant differences in specific strategies, on the scales Self-Control (used more by men), Sharing, Someone Else's Fault, Relaxing, Avoiding, Reconciling, and Self- reflection (reported more...
