The Workplace Challenges of Lupus PatientsAl Dhanhani, Ali 14 December 2010 (has links)
Objective: To examine the workplace challenges of lupus patients.
Methods: A cross sectional study surveyed lupus patients seen at the Toronto Lupus Clinic in the last 2 years. We included questions on health, work context and psychosocial perceptions. Descriptive statistics described the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of the sample; multivariable analysis examined factors associated with workplace activity limitations, job strain, and job accommodations.
Results: 362 respondents completed the questionnaire (60% response). 49.7% were currently employed. Participants who recently left work had higher disease activity and workplace activity limitations. Employed participants had low to moderate job strain. Seventy percent of employed participants used job accommodations. Health, work context, and psychological factors were significantly associated with workplace activity limitations, job strain and job accommodations.
Conclusion: Persons living with lupus are faced by different challenges at the workplace. Workplace difficulties and needs of individuals with lupus should be assessed by health professionals.

The emergence of the Angolan equity market: main limitations and recommendationsDe Oliveira, Sheila 23 June 2022 (has links)
This dissertation investigates the limitations on the emergence of the Angolan stock market. It also examines the strategies developed by sub-Saharan African stock exchanges when facing similar issues. It uses information obtained from participants to recommend actions to be taken by the Angolan government and institutions related to capital markets. The analysis shows that some prerequisites must be prepared to establish any equity market and enhance the continued development of capital markets. Determinants of capital markets show that macroeconomic and institutional approaches are critical tools for stock market development. Results of this study tell us that stock markets do not follow a linear path. No such formula exists to apply to have the same results as other geographies because market characteristics are different. However, some conditions must be conceived to host the stock market. Additionally, the collaboration of the government, regulators, policymakers, and other stakeholders has been crucial for developing capital markets.

Begränsningar som verktyg för kreativt skapande : På jakt efter nya ingångar inom jazzimprovisationLarsson, Eskil January 2024 (has links)
This thesis explores the concept that self-imposed constraints in jazz improvisation can enhance creativity and the generation of ideas. With the help of constraints, the purpose is to find new pathways in music that I wouldn't have taken otherwise. The ambition is to move beyond habitual playing and deep-seated patterns on the instrument, aiming for a more genuine creative expression. Various types of restrictions are applied within a jazz quartet, tailored and assigned to each band member. The outcomes were showcased during my graduation concert, featuring predominantly jazz compositions and standards. The imposed limiations proved effective in fostering new and exciting musical developments. Under the right conditions, these constraints playfully accentuated and amplified our musical identities, although some proved too restrictive to inspire meaningful progress in our music. /
Musik

Eronel (Thelonius Monk)

Untitled (Eskil Larsson)

Straight No Chaser (Thelonius Monk)

You Know I Care (Duke Pearson)

Heartaches (Al Hoffman)

Medverkande musiker

Eskil Larsson - Tenorsaxofon

Milos Lindegren - Piano

Johannes Bäckström - Kontrabas

Felix Kling - Trummor

Denitrification in sediments of headwater streams in the southern Appalachian Mountains, USAMartin, Lara A. 19 May 2000 (has links)
We investigated variations in resource availability (nitrate and labile organic carbon, LOC) as determinants of denitrification in sediments of streams in the southern Appalachian Mountains, USA. Stream water and sediments were sampled seasonally in two streams of contrasting nitrate availability, Noland Creek (high NO₃-N) and Walker Branch (low NO3-N). Eight additional streams with varying nitrate levels were sampled once during summer. Stream sediments were incubated at ambient stream temperatures, and nitrous oxide accumulation was quantified following acetylene inhibition of nitrous oxide reduction. Denitrification potential was greater in Noland Creek than Walker Branch and was generally greater in sediments from the higher-nitrate streams. In autumn and spring, nitrate and LOC amendments indicated that denitrification potential in Walker Branch sediments was nitrate limited, with temperature having no effect on rates. Denitrification potential in Noland Creek sediments was not limited by nitrate, but temperature had a significant effect. When Noland Creek seasonal data were corrected to a common temperature, no seasonal differences in denitrification potential were detected. Nitrate-N in the 10 surveyed streams ranged from 10 to 549 mg/L, with the highest NO₃-N levels and denitrification rates generally occurring in the higher elevation streams in the GSMNP. We found that nitrate availability, more than LOC availability, controls potential denitrification in these streams. / Master of Science

A Pedagogy of Constraints: How Self-Imposed Limitations Influence Art-Making and TeachingPowell, Emmalee Glauser 28 May 2020 (has links)
This study explores how self-imposed limitations affect anxieties about art-making and the art-making process. As a teacher, I was interested in how limitations affected student art-making. I used arts-based research methodology to explore spiritual and personal quandaries in my own life through the process of art-making. A consistent thread throughout this investigation was using the process of making art as a way to gain understanding about my own life and teaching. I was also able to create a culture of vulnerability and honesty in my classroom and help my students embrace themselves and their physical, emotional, and situational limitations through the art-making process.
