O De voluptate de Lorenzo Valla: tradução e notas / The De voluptate by Lorenzo Valla: translation and notes

Batista, Ana Letícia Adami 29 September 2010 (has links)
The present research consists of a translation of Lorenzo Vallas (1407-1457) De Voluptate, published for the first time in 1431. In this work which suffered many attacks from humanistic thinkers in Renaissance Europe Valla starts a discussion, carried on De Libero Arbitrio (1439), about the epicurean and stoic debate on the concepts of honestas and voluptas, where he opposes Boethiuss (480-524) theses as expressed on books I and IV of his Consolation of Philosophy (6th century). A current of historians founded in the 1950s by Hans Baron, Eugênio Garin and Paul O. Kristeller states that these themes expressed by Valla and others humanistic thinkers were intimately related to the way of thinking and the civil life in quattrocento Italian Republics, where they found a proper place to forge an authentic worldview named by the Historians as Humanism.

A ética do prazer de Lorenzo Valla / The Ethics of Pleasure of Lorenzo Valla

Adami, Ana Letícia 02 July 2019 (has links)
The purpose of this dissertation is to expose and comment on the thesis of pleasure (voluptas, in Latin, edoné, in Greek) as the highest good (summum bonum), according to the Roman humanist Lorenzo Valla\' defense (1407-1457) inscribed in his dialogue De Voluptate (On Pleasure), published for the first time in 1431. In this work, which was the subject of numerous controversies between humanists and other scholastics of his time in Renaissance Europe, Valla proposes a debate between a Stoic representative and an Epicurean on the question about the ultimate end that directs our actions, also said the highest good. As a representative of the party of virtue or of the honest (honestum or honestas), that is to say, the Stoic, he chooses no one but one of the greatest representatives of the Italian republicanism of the Renaissance, the chancellor of Florence, Leonardo Bruni (1370-1444). On the opposite side, as the representative of the pleasure party (voluptas), that is, the Epicurean, he chooses no one but the author of the first volume of satirical epigrams of the Renaissance, the panormitan poet, Antonio Beccadelli (1394-1471). Through this debate, Valla seeks to counter scholastic and humanist criticisms of the \"epicurean\" model of life, pejoratively called life of \"farmers or rustics\" by his detractors, as opposed to the \"stoic\" model of public business man, committed to very high duties (officia), as they seek the protection and glory to his city.

La théorie de la connaissance dans les dialectiques du XVIè siècle de Lorenzo Valla à Pierre de La Ramée : Topique, signification et nature / The theory of knowledge in the dialectal treatises in the Renaissance from Lorenzo Valla to Pierre de la Ramée : topic, signification and nature

Pimenta Pattio, Julio Agnelo 22 March 2017 (has links)
In order to achieve this objective a path was chosen, going from Lorenzo Valla to Pierre de La Ramée. These authors are approached not only as offering a reflexion on language, but rather to detect the conception of the intellect they highlight. Having said that, it will not be the case to simply reinsert these authors, central for the understanding of the topic, in the actual swarm of dialectical treatises during the time, but rather to grasp the reflexion concerning the operations of the intellect, that animate them. During the Renaissance, Dialectic and Rhetoric will be brought closer and their cooperation worked in many different ways, the text will thus discuss how the analysis of the language set forth during the time, strongly supported by the Latin of classic authors, will be shifted toward a topic of the intellect, dedicated to multiples forms of reasoning. This 'dialectical' movement was not an uniform one, nevertheless, the works here consulted can be placed within the framework of a growing participation of the theory of knowledge in the discussions about dialectic, understood as the science of sciences
