Dialkylphosphorylhydrazones were obtained through 3 steps of reaction. The first step consists on the synthesis of different dialkylphosphonates obtained by reaction of triethyl phosphate (PCl3) with 3 mols of the corresponding alcohol. The second step occurs by the reaction with dialkylphosphonates synthesized and hydrazine, producing dialkylphosphorylhydrazines. The third and last step is the condensation reaction of these dialkylphosphorylhydrazines with different heterocycle substituted aromatic aldehydes. The analysis of the 1H NMR spectra allowed to observe the stereoisomers E and Z, with the formation of E diastereisomer preferencially. All the compounds were characterized by 1H, 13C and 31P NMR, IR and mass spectroscopy. Tests in vitro with, Alternaria sp., Colletotrichum sp., Fusarium sp. e Fusarium solani, known as patogenic in papaya (Carica papaya L.) were performed in order to confirm if the compounds showed fungicide activity. The substance 6 B was the one with the best performance in the inhibition of all fungal growths. Finally, tests with acetylcholinesterase enzyme indicated that all substances did not inhibit this enzyme. Figure 2 - General structures of dialkylphosphoryhidrazones synthesized. R ? Elementary Logic as a Tool in Proving Mathematical Statements

May, Bruce Matthew January 2008 (has links)
>Magister Scientiae - MSc / An analysis of South African school mathematics results indicates that one of the problem areas in the mathematical performance of learners is proof and proving. In an endeavour to improve the mathematical proving ability of first year students at UWC, the MAM 112 class (a first year elective mathematics course) was taught a course in elementary logic. In the initial part of the study, logic puzzles were utilized as a tool to teach students to make logical connections between and from mathematical statements using the rules of inference. Subsequently research was done to determine if knowledge and understanding of logic would translate into improved proving abilities of students. To put proof and proving into perspective the origins and functions of proof was explicated and proving in South African schools was investigated. Consequently reasons are advanced for the dismal high school mathematics results in terms of proof and possible solutions are discussed. Recent discoveries of neuroscience are utilized to delineate the brain structures and cognitive processes involved in learning so as to gain a better understanding of the learning of mathematics. The findings of neuroscience, cognitive psychology and educational psychology are employed to elucidate the influence of emotion, confidence, experience and practice on the learning of mathematics in order to determine which factors can be applied to improve the proving abilities of students. The findings of the study indicate that knowledge of logic does help to improve the ability of students to make logical connections (deductions) between and from statements. The results of the study, however, do not indicate that knowledge and understanding of logic translates into improved proving ability of mathematical statements by students.

Diagnostika systémů s lidským operátorem / Diagnostic of Systems with a Human Operator

Havlíková, Marie January 2009 (has links)
The doctoral thesis is thematically focused to human operator systems significantly contributing to this system reliability and safety. The theoretical part of the thesis is concerned with human activities and communications in MMS system, valuation and estimation of human reliability probability in MSS. The important part of the thesis is also a description of human operator neuromuscular system as an executive powerful system on MMS system regulating activities and the summary of human driver models in compensative lateral car control. The practical part of the doctoral thesis is based on analyses created by experimental data of drives. Experimental drives were done on drivers set following different backgrounds and different sleep deprivation at whole day. All experimental data was realized from the cooperation and following the agreement of Faculty of Transportation Science research centre on Prague ČVUT. Another part of thesis includes driver simulation model proposals with nonlinear components for lateral car control. Simulation model drives are compared with real drives or drivers on drive-simulator and there are monitored identical and different dynamic movement characteristics. The main target of doctoral thesis is to detect and obtain significant dynamical drive experience characteristics based on experimental data analyses. As well to found drive characters variability owing to driver’s fatigue and determinated evaluated characteristics changes. Acquired results of thesis should help in assistant systems that in cooperation with other components alert to micro-sleep and run off drive possibility.

Managing the Implementation of Metal Additive Manufacturing : A Case Study at SAAB

Weimar, Emily, Antila, Eric January 2023 (has links)
As industries are transitioning towards mass customisation, manufacturers are looking for alternative techniques that can support the need for a more innovative, flexible, and sustainable production process. One such technique that is currently gaining a lot of momentum is Additive Manufacturing (AM). AM can achieve more complex structures and geometries which in turn makes it possible for highly customised designs with greater efficiency and sustainability. However, despite all the advantages of AM, adoption rates are still low compared to industry predictions, thus some challenges need to be addressed. This paper aims to study the implementation of metal additive manufacturing (MAM) by comparing literature with a real-world example, i.e., a case study at Saab, in an effort to answer the research question: Why adopt MAM; what are the challenges to a successful implementation of MAM; and how can they be overcome? The main theories that have been analysed in this study are Diffusion of Innovation (DOI), Technology-Organisation-Environment (TOE) and Change Management. Which are believed to be essential for understanding the implementation process of new technology.  The thesis follows a qualitative research approach where a single case study was carried out to be able to conduct a more in-depth analysis of the research topic.  In the case study it was identified that key challenges for Saab in implementing MAM are related to Knowledge gaps (both internal and external, partly due to immature technology); Organisational (structural and cultural) and Materials (qualification and standardisation) These key challenges, as identified in the interviews with Saab, match the challenges found in literature where they are described as Knowledge/technical know-how challenges, Organisational challenges, Integration challenges and Standardisation/qualification challenges. In conclusion, the reason to adopt MAM for the case company, a producer of parts with high requirements on functionality and optimization, is the strategic importance due to the technology enabling architectural innovation. The main challenges are related to the organisation and product development process, both in part due to knowledge challenges. In overcoming the challenges to the implementation, it is believed that increased internal and external collaboration is important as a way of generating and developing knowledge and at the same time using the resources more efficiently. Also, the need for re-designing the product development process to become cross-functional and include the whole system to enable architectural innovation.

This qualitative and exploratory research study was developed based on Edmund Husserl?s phenomenology and guided by principles of Humanistic psychology, specifically Carl Roger?s Person Centered Approach. It aimed to apprehend the experience of 13 mothers who gave birth to their first child during the past 18 months, about the meaning of singing to their infants. The researcher spoke to each of the participants, all with a college education, during a dialogical encounter, and immediately afterwards wrote a comprehensive narrative to register her comprehension regarding that mother?s experience, based on her own impressions. A narrative-synthesis and a creative synthesis were constructed based on the narratives to enable a phenomenological process of analysis that presupposes three phases: description, comprehension and interpretation of the experience. The structural elements that emerged from the mothers' experience of singing to their infants are: (a) a means of communication hugging their infant with their song; (b) the establishment of an emotional bond with their infant; (c) a way to better know their infant as it develops; (d) a means of recognizing themselves as mothers; (e) a form of sharing personal values and family customs; (f) a creative way of expressing themselves, and (g) a possibility of personal growth. The meaning of this experience enables further reflections regarding human relationships from a psychological viewpoint and can stimulate dialogues with other areas of knowledge.
