THE MYSTERIOUS MC-CLUBS: A CONTENT ANALYSIS OF THE STRUCTURE, SYMBOLS, BROTHERHOOD, AND CRIMINAL INVOLVEMENT AMONG LEGAL AND ILLEGAL MC-CLUBS

Mc-clubs are marked as mysterious with dangerous motorcycles and deviant. Research has noticed both the illegal and legal clubs, but few have performed a comparison. The paper describes the similarities, differences, and the characteristics among legal and illegal mc-clubs. The comparison is done by looking at the structure, symbols, brotherhood, and criminal involvement. The depiction of the clubs is done by the help of Edwin M. Lemert’s terms primary and secondary deviance and Lewis Yablonsky’s definition of the social, delinquent, and violent gang. A content analysis based on 28 previous and current articles has been used to find the specific themes the clubs have in common and what characterizes and separates them. The clubs were shown to have similar structure, symbols and brotherhood, the difference lying in the intensity of the three components. The major difference is the criminal involvement. The illegal clubs reject the conventional society where the deviance is a form of identity, sharing it with like-minded in a violent setting. The legal clubs, however, conform and simultaneously deviate and have their own community with values and beliefs. Implications and future research is discussed.

The use of 87Sr/86Sr isotopic ratios to assess natal areas and movement of juvenile Gulf Sturgeon Acipenser oxyrinchus desotoi in the Pascagoula and Pearl River systems

The effects of water and dietary influence, and time duration for discernment, of pectoral fin spine 87Sr/86Sr were evaluated in Atlantic Sturgeon Acipenser oxyrinchus oxyrinchus. Fish were subjected to 87Sr-enriched water (0.1 mg/L) or diet (0.25 migrogram/g or 0.5 microgram/g) for 1, 2, 3, 6, or 12 weeks. Fish were also held at 15 or 25°C to determine if temperature influenced 87Sr/86Sr. Results found fin spine 87Sr/86Sr changed in water after 1 week and diet after 12 weeks suggesting water is the primary influence. In wild Gulf Sturgeon A. o. desotoi, spot ablations closest to the fin spine core separated fish into four 87Sr/86Sr groups (0.7110, 0.7105, 0.7100, and 0.7906) for both the Pascagoula and Pearl Rivers from 2016-2021. In the Pearl River system, 87.5% of fish (pre-first annuli) had stable 87Sr/86Sr indicating minimal movement, whereas decreasing 87Sr/86Sr in the second and third growth zones indicated downriver movement towards estuaries.

The study aimed to develop the knowledge and provide a broader understanding of how management consultants (MC) manage strategic change, by examining their approach in relation to their function in strategic change processes. The literature review explored the function of MCs as change agents from four perspectives: standards setters, information sources, knowledge integrators, and knowledge brokers. Highlighting the client-consultant relationship as an aspect within their function. Additionally, the planned and emergent approach to change was presented. Based on the presented concepts, a conceptual framework was developed. A qualitative approach was taken where semi-structured interviews were conducted with MCs from different consulting firms to gather relevant data. Finally, the data was structured and thematically analyzed through our conceptual model.   There is no one-size-fits-all regarding managing strategic change. MCs focus on recognizing the unique context of each change process and client, implying that the MCs can function differently in different change processes. Furthermore, MCs approach strategic change processes in relation to their function as change agents by utilizing activities from both planned- and emergent activities, depending on the specific function they perceive they have.

L’acidification des océans provoquée par l’absorption du CO2 atmosphérique par l’eau de merest devenue une préoccupation écologique majeure et menace déjà les organismes calcifiants. Suiteà la révolution industrielle, le pH de l’océan de surface a diminué de 0,1 unité-pH. En revanche, celuides eaux profondes reste peu documenté. Les isotopes du bore (11B) dans les carbonatesbiogéniques se sont révélés être un puissant outil géochimique pour la reconstitution du pH, mais n’apas encore été appliqué aux coraux profonds. Un travail analytique sur MC-ICPMS Neptune et uneanalyse géochimique de ces coraux ont été effectués afin de reconstituer et quantifier l’acidificationdes océans. De même, la valeur 11B de l’eau de mer utilisée pour calculer les paléo-pH a étérevisitée et l’homogénéité des océans vérifiée.L’analyse de deux colonies modernes de Lophelia pertusa et Madrepora oculata a permis dequantifier un taux d’acidification pendant la fin du XXème siècle pour les eaux de sub-surface en mer deNorvège et cela après établissement d’une calibration expérimentale à partir de coraux de culture.L’analyse géochimique des coraux profonds a mis en évidence un effet vital lié à la physiologie quidoit être considéré pour quantifier avec précision la variabilité du pH. Celui-ci peut être en partiecorrigé par une analyse statistique des isotopes stables B, C et O. Cette étude a aussi révélél’influence de l’hydrodynamique régionale. Enfin les variations naturelles du pH pendant l’Holocène etle Dernier Maximum Glaciaire sur des coraux profonds fossiles méditerranéens ont été établies etcelles pendant l’aube de l’explosion de la diversité biologique. / Ocean acidification is caused by the absorption of rising atmospheric CO2 by seawater andrepresents a major environmental issue. Since the beginning of the industrial era, seawater pH hasdecreased by 0.1 pH units and is already threatening calcifying organisms. Boron isotopes (11B) haveproved to be a powerful geochemical tool for the reconstruction of pH variations, but has not yet beenapplied to deep-sea corals (DSC). Accurate and precise measurements of boron isotopes in coralsand seawaters were performed in order to measure small pH variations.The technique of pH reconstruction based on boron isotopes (pH-11B) was used on two specimens of the DSC Madrepora oculata and Lophelia pertusa collected alive in the Norwegian Sea and spanning an age of 40 (3) and 67 (3) years, respectively. Acidification rates were calculated by applying a new pH-11B calibration obtained from the geochemical analysis M. oculata and L. pertusa samples cultured under different pCO2 conditions. The contribution of a biological-related vital effect on d11B was observed at macrometer scale, and a correction was finally suggested based on oxygen and carbon isotopes. Overall, the coral δ 11B-based reconstructions show a pH decrease in the Norwegian Sea since the 1940s, which seems to be related to the local hydrodynamics. The pH-11B technique was also applied to fossil DSC fragments from two “on-mound sediment cores” retrieved in the Siculo-Tunisian Strait with the aim to reconstruct the pH during the Last Glacial Maximum and the Holocene periods. Finally, well-preserved limestone samples from the stratigraphic sequence Nama (551-543 Ma) in Namibia were investigated for 11B to study the pH variations at the beginning of the Cambrian evolutive radiation.

I industrin finns det många pumpar som inte kör i de optimala driftfall som de är skapade för. Detta bidrar till stora och onödiga kostnader för fabriker och industrier. Det finns olika reglermetoder för att få pumpen att köra så optimalt som möjligt, det vanligaste är att avända sig av en reglerventil som stryper bort flödet. Ett annat sätt är att investera i en frekvensomriktare. En frekvensomriktare kan reglera varvtalet på pumpen och göra så driften blir så optimal som möjligt för det driftfall som körs. Blir driften så optimal som möjligt kommer kostnaden att reduceras. För att lätt kunna beräkna om det är lönsamt att investera i en frekvensomriktare behövs ett standardiserat beräkningsprogram. Detta arbete har gjorts för ÅF Pöyry i Karlstad i samverkan med BillerudKorsnäs AB, Gruvön. Datainsamling har skett på BillerudKorsnäs AB på en MC-pump (423P008) denna sitter på SK 2, som även kallas barrlinjen, där man behandlar barrträd. Resultatet är ett standardiserat beräkningsprogram för att kunna beräkna både MC-pumpar och centrifugalpumpar i pappersmassaindustrin. Detta beräkningsprogram kan bland annat beräkna den totala tryckhöjden för respektive pump för att sedan kunna beräkna payoff-tiden, alltså om det är lönsamt att investera i en frekvensomriktare. Vid beräkning med hjälp av beräkningsprogrammet på MC-pump 423P008 visas det att ca 120 000 SEK/år är de kostnader som ”stryps” bort med den nuvarande reglermetoden, detta är också den besparingspotetnial som kan göras vid investering av en frekvensomriktare och detta är endast för en pump på ett bruk. Slutsatsen man kan dra med hjälp av beräkningsprogrammet är att det finns stora kostnader att spara i industrin genom att optimera drifterna hos de pumpar som finns. / In the industry, there are many pumps that do not running in the optimal operating conditions that they are created for. A frequency converter can regulate the speed (rpm) of the pump and make the operation as optimal as possible for the running case. If the operation becomes as optimal as possible, money will be saved. In order to easily calculate whether it is profitable to invest in a frequency converter, a standardized calculation program is needed. This work has been made for ÅF Pöyry in Karlstad in a collaboration with BillerudKorsnäs AB, Gruvön. Data collection has taken place at BillerudKorsnäs AB on an MC-pump (423P008), which is stationary at SK 2, which is also called the coniferous-line, where you process conifers. The result is a standardized calculation program for calculating both MC-pumps and centrifugal pumps in the pulp industry. This calculation program can calculate the total pump head for each pump in order to then calculate the payoff time, i.e. whether it is profitable to invest in a frequency converter, or not. When using the calculation program for the MC-pump named 423P008, it is shown that about SEK 120,000 SEK / year are the costs that are "throttled" away with the current “control method”. This is data for just one pump out at BillerudKorsnäs.
