Podavka, Ondřej January 2012 (has links)
The thesis deals with the mutual correspondence (with its part from the years 16641667) of a Jesuit Bohuslav Balbín (16211688) and a Premonstratensian Johannes Alois Hackenschmidt (16261683), a canon of monastery of Teplá and a secretary of abbot Rajmund Wilfert (†1670). Preserved correspondence of that time consists of 41 Balbín's and 39 Hackenschmidt's letters. Hackenschmidt was sending information of the history of monasteries of Teplá and Chotěšov and transcripts and excerpts of charters found in archives of these monasteries; Balbín was informing Hackenschmidt about the past of the Lords of Guttenstein. The thesis brings information on the life of both correspondents, summarizes the content of their correspondence and comments on their relationship. Finally, eight Balbín's and six Hackenschmidt's letters, provided by a commentary, are edited in the final part of the work.

Both spaces have their sonorous territories‟ identities. In view of the prominence that the sound production‟s study of societies is creating new possibilities for the current historiography, the research issue also sought to provide subsidies to the historical investigation of the music writing reading rules through gregorian chant and the whole complex set of nomenclatures derived from musicological analysis. It also proposes a restructuring in the ocular mechanism hierarchy in equilibrium with the conscious listening of sounds, promoting new cognitive models of our sensitive capacities. Thus, the main documentary sources used were sound sources, a small photographic collection and oral reports from people who passed by in both spaces / O tema central da presente dissertação é historicizar no tempo presente a paisagem sonora interna do Mosteiro de São Bento, as permanências medievais contidas em sua arquitetura e em sua produção musical, ao lado de toda a sonoridade dicotômica, acelerada e ruidosa dos sons urbanos de seu arrabalde.

The music and liturgy of Kloster Preetz: Anna von Buchwald's Buch im Chor in its fifteenth-century context / Anna von Buchwald's Buch im Chor in its fifteenth-century context

Altstatt, Alison Noel, 1970- 06 1900 (has links)
xxviii, 592 p. : ill., music / This dissertation investigates the music and liturgy of the German Benedictine convent of Kloster Preetz as reflected in three fifteenth-century manuscripts: the Buch im Chor of prioress Anna von Buchwald, an antiphoner and a gradual. Chapter II describes the convent's music and liturgy and the cantrix's responsibilities, showing that the cloister practiced an unusually elaborate liturgy. It examines Anna's account of an episcopal visitation and explains resulting reforms. Chapter III examines the musical and liturgical roles of the cloister's children. I also present evidence of a group of female "professional" singers who contributed to the music on important occasions and examine Anna's descriptions of rules governing children's lives, the training of young cantrices, and cloister entrance rites. Chapter IV presents a physical description of the convent's gradual and antiphoner and an analysis of their scripts and notation, arguing for the presence of a convent scriptorium that fostered a unique notational lineage. Chapter V discusses music for the mass in the gradual, focusing on the genres of introit trope, alleluia, and sequence. A comparative analysis suggests an early and melodically conservative transmission of tropes. An analysis of alleluia assignments suggests a likeness to the manuscript I-Rvat 181 (Erfurt) and to the liturgical predecessor of a repertoire eventually promulgated by the Bursfeld reform. I furthermore describe six previously undocumented alleluias. A comparison of the sequence repertoires of Preetz and Lübeck shows that the cloister maintained a rich and unique selection. A case study of the melody OCCIDENTANA/REX OMNIPOTENS confirms a Rhenish origin for the earliest repertoire. Four unusual late sequences are analyzed for their textual and theological complexity. The cloister's unique version of the sequence Letabundus exultet reflects the convent's Marian devotion, hints at its imperial origins, and serves as self-depiction of the nuns' devotional practices. Chapter VI describes music for the office preserved in the antiphoner. An analysis of a previously unknown office for St. Blaise suggests that it may be a lost composition of tenth-century composer Reginold of Eichstätt. An added proper office for St. Matthias bespeaks a liturgical connection to Trier, likely transmitted through the Bursfeld movement. / Committee in charge: Dr. Lori Kruckenberg, Chairperson; Dr. Anne Dhu McLucas, Member; Dr. Marc Vanscheeuwijck, Member; Dr. Lisa Wolverton, Outside Member

Kanonizace sv. Tomáše Akvinského / Canonisation of Saint Thomas of Aquin

Štěpánek, Robert Benno January 2019 (has links)
Canonization of Saint Thomas Aquinas Abstract This thesis inquires into the canonization process of Thomas Aquinas, in relation to specific circumstances and general usage of the era on the field of canonizing saints. While at the grave of the reverend master, miracles were produced and the popular cult was rising, on western universities, a doctrinal dispute has flared up which touched Thomas' doctrine, as well. The case has not be resolved untill nearly fifty years, when the pope John XXII has shown interest in canonizing one important personality of Dominican order. The choice fell on Thomas. The minor friars, protected by the roman king Louis IV the Bavarian, oposed but the pope got his purpose through, and so Thomas' learning became the leading stream in theology and thinking. The aim of this thesis is to approach period specificities of the cult of saints and canonization processes, to outline a brief history of Thomas' way to canonization and following occurrences, and to try to figure out broader context of the process, evaluating the importance of particular aspects at the same time. The thesis is based on canonization documents and relies on relevant sources and specialized literature. Keywords Canonization, canonization process, cult of saints, Thomas Aquinas, relics, translation, dispute,...

Prostor modlitby - etnografie řeholní komunity / The Space of Prayer - Ethnography of a Monastic Community

Horská, Kateřina January 2012 (has links)
The presented work deals with certain aspects of catholic monastic life; it has been elaborated on the basis of a field research carried out in a female monastic community of an active order in the Czech Republic. In the work, I focus primarily on the topic of prayer and I am trying to answer the following questions: what is the nuns' attitude towards prayer like, which activities we can consider a prayer in the monastic community and what is the influence of these activities on actors in this setting? On theoretical level, the thesis is based especially on the concept of total institutions by E. Goffman and on Pierre Bourdieu's conception of habitus. The text consists of four major parts. In the first, introductory part I describe methodological and ethical issues relevant to my research. In the second part, I concern myself briefly with monastic life in general, its origins and development, and also with stages of monastic life of an individual. The following empirical part based on ethnographic data from my field notes is presented as a description of "a common day" in the monastic community. The last part is theoretical and analytical at the same time; here I deal with the main topic of the thesis. Firstly, I present Goffman's concept of total institutions and I explain how according to this...

Knihovna kapucínského kláštera v Sušici / Doplnit!

Mašková, Lenka January 2015 (has links)
The thesis deals with the book collection of the Capuchin monastery in Sušice. It conducts a survey of the history of the collection and elaborates its characteristics in terms of content and language. It carries out provenance research in the collection and looks into the reading culture of the rural monastery. The structure of the work is built on four pillars, each of them expressed in an individual chapter. The first part deals with the historical circumstances related to the arrival of the Capuchin Order in Bohemia and the founding of the monastery in Sušice. These events led to the creation of the monastic library. The second point is a summary discussion about the monastic library, its content and impact on the book culture in Sušice. The third pillar is built upon information on the development and fate of the library in the 20th century. The present status and recent functions of this historical collection is described here in detail. The final part deals with the topic of reading. The conclusion summarizes the results reached.
