Specifically, it refers to the design and construction of a new, innovative hybrid journal bearing, which has the ability to function either as hydrodynamic or active magnetic or hybrid, i.e. both hydrodynamic and active magnetic, at the same time. In order to be performed the design and construction of the specific hybrid journal bearing, calculations and simulation of the hydrodynamic field for the hydrodynamic journal bearings in the program ANSYS, have been made. The simulation of the hybrid journal bearings has been made with iterative process, between the hydrodynamic and active magnetic field, so that every desired magnitude can be calculated. For the design of the hybrid journal bearing, the designing program CATIA has been used. For the simulation of the control of the hybrid journal bearing, the program Maltab has been used, which activates the program Ansys, for the calculation of the features of the hydrodynamic and active magnetic field of the bearing and the Simulink module of Maltab, for the calculation of the features of control, so that all necessary calculations can be made automated. Finally, calculations and simulation of rotor dynamics, with support of the rotor in two bearings and disc adjusted to the rotor, in Maltab, in connection to Ansys, for the calculation of the elastic and damping coefficients and the Simulink module of Maltab, for the calculation of the features of control, have been made, having as a purpose the complete analysis of the system. In conclusion, through the specific doctoral thesis, it is proved that the design, function and construction of the specific, new hybrid journal bearing, can be achieved and the results show that the function of such a hybrid journal bearing, has many advantages compared to other bearings of support of rotors, either they are simple or hybrid and it can be applied either to laboratory level or industrial applications.

Development of an integrated co-processor based power electronic drive / by Robert D. Hudson

Hudson, Robert Dearn January 2008 (has links)
The McTronX research group at the North-West University is currently researching self-sensing techniques for Active Magnetic Bearings (AMB). The research is part of an ongoing effort to expand the knowledge base on AMBs in the School of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering to support industries that make use of the technology. The aim of this project is to develop an integrated co-processor based power electronic drive with the emphasis placed on the ability of the co-processor to execute AMB self-sensing algorithms. The two primary techniques for implementing self-sensing in AMBs are state estimation and modulation. This research focuses on hardware development to facilitate the implementation of the modulation method. Self-sensing algorithms require concurrent processing power and speed that are well suited to an architecture that combines a digital signal processor (DSP) and a field programmable gate array (FPGA). A comprehensive review of various power amplifier topologies shows that the pulse width modulation (PWM) switching amplifier is best suited for controlling the voltage and current required to drive the AMB coils. Combining DSPs and power electronics to form an integrated co-processor based power electronic drive requires detail attention to aspects of PCB design, including signal integrity and grounding. A conceptual design is conducted and forms part of the process of compiling a subsystem development specification for the integrated drive, in conjunction with the McTronX Research Group. Component selection criteria, trade-off studies and various circuit simulations serve as the basis for this essential phase of the project. The conceptual design and development specification determines the architecture, functionality and interfaces of the integrated drive. Conceptual designs for the power amplifier, digital controller, electronic supply and mechanical layout of the integrated drive is provided. A detail design is performed for the power amplifier, digital controller and electronic supply. Issues such as component selection, power supply requirements, thermal design, interfacing of the various circuit elements and PCB design are covered in detail. The output of the detail design is a complete set of circuit diagrams for the integrated controller. The integrated drive is interfaced with existing AMB hardware and facilitates the successful implementation of two self-sensing techniques. The hardware performance of the integrated coprocessor based power electronic drive is evaluated by means of measurements taken from this experimental self-sensing setup. The co-processor performance is evaluated in terms of resource usage and execution time and performs satisfactorily in this regard. The integrated co-processor based power electronic drive provided sufficient resources, processing speed and flexibility to accommodate a variety of self-sensing algorithms thus contributing to the research currently underway in the field of AMBs by the McTronX research group at the North-West University. / Thesis (M.Ing. / In this work a theoretical analysis of the performance of a system which actively controls vibrations of rotors using magnetic bearings is presented. The proposed system of control is an alternative of active control of rotor vibrations in which an adaptive feedforward system superimposed on the feedback control system of the magnetic bearings is used. The performance of some control architectures was analyzed, in terms of global vibration as in terms of local vibration of the rotor, giving emphasis in the variation of the proportional and derivative gain of the PID controller of the control circuit of the active magnetic bearings. Furthermore, the performance of the vibration control system was analyzed considering the effect of the number and position of the error sensors, as well as the effect of the magnetic bearing employed as actuator. The control system was applied in a theoretical rotor model developed by the matrix impedance method.

Estudo do controle uni-axial do mancal de levitação magnética do tipo atração para potência nula (ZPC, zero power control). / Control study of uni-axial magnetic levitation bearing type attraction to zero power (ZPC, zero power control).

Orlando Homen de Mello 02 February 2011 (has links)
The magnetic bearing of this work is based on the 1-DOF (degree of freedom) control uni-axial magnetic circuit with hybrid-type attraction, which was developed in 2000 at the Polytechnic School, University of São Paulo by Silva and Horikawa [1][2]. At both ends of the rotor magnets are fixed, and in opposition are the electromagnetic actuators with ferromagnetic cores. The magnets are attracted to the actuators by the forces due to the presence of ferromagnetic cores of the two actuators. Due to competition between the magnetic forces of attraction, the rotor is confined in the central position of the axial stiffness resulting in efforts to radial. And in the axial direction, the rotor position is defined by the active control that produces the effect of magnetic levitation of the rotor. If the rotor magnetic bearing suffer efforts in the axial direction, the control system should apply more electrical current in the actuators to ensure correct positioning of the rotor, this can generate a huge power consumption. This paper studies the principle of magnetic bearing control with zero power to be applied in designing a mixed centrifugal pump, which has its rotor magnetically suspended. It is called the zero power operating condition with minimal energy consumption in the levitation of the rotor. The pump design will be used to aid blood circulation, relieving the load on the pumping of the left ventricle of the heart sick, so the pump design is called a Ventricular Assist Device (VAD). The technical needs of the DAV justify the use of magnetic bearing system and zero power control. To apply the technique of zero power control is essential that the magnetic bearing system is a hybrid. This study was developed from the magnetic bearing system developed by Silva and Horikawa [1] [2] by the similarity of the bearing properties of the DAV requests. The algorithm of zero power control (ZPC-zero power control \") was developed to provide a simple and small code without compromising the robustness of the control that the project requires the VAD.

Rotordynamic Analysis of Theoretical Models and Experimental Systems

Naugle, Cameron R 01 April 2018 (has links)
This thesis is intended to provide fundamental information for the construction and analysis of rotordynamic theoretical models, and their comparison the experimental systems. Finite Element Method (FEM) is used to construct models using Timoshenko beam elements with viscous and hysteretic internal damping. Eigenvalues and eigenvectors of state space equations are used to perform stability analysis, produce critical speed maps, and visualize mode shapes. Frequency domain analysis of theoretical models is used to provide Bode diagrams and in experimental data full spectrum cascade plots. Experimental and theoretical model analyses are used to optimize the control algorithm for an Active Magnetic Bearing on an overhung rotor.

Návrh elektrodynamického magnetického ložiska / Electrodynamic magnetic bearing design

Pavluš, Ondřej January 2021 (has links)
High speed applications demands with a need for lower energy consumption lead to designing new types of bearings. In the last decades magnetic bearing, which would be able to obtain passive stable levitation using regular materials at room temperature, has been searched. This has lead to development of electrodynamic bearing based on eddy currents principle. Currently the electrodynamic bearings are still not fully explored and further research is needed. The aim of the work is to describe the theory about modern magnetic bearing, analysis and design of electrodynamic bearing according to given parameters. The finite element method is used for further analysis and evaluate behaviour of its properties.

In situ measurement of the dynamic yarn path in a turbo ring spinning process based on the superconducting magnetic bearing twisting system

Hossain, M., Sparing, M., Espenhahn, T., Abdkader, A., Cherif, C., Hühne, R., Nielsch, K. 02 September 2020 (has links)
The yarn tension and balloon form are the most important physical process parameters to characterize the dynamic yarn path in ring spinning. The present research work focuses on the in situ measurement of yarn tension in different regions of the yarn path in a developed turbo ring spinning tester with a friction-free superconducting magnetic bearing (SMB) twisting system and at an angular spindle speed of up to 50,000 rpm. The influence of different parameters, such as angular spindle speeds (15,000–50,000 rpm), yarn counts (15–40 tex) and balloon control ring (one or multiple), were evaluated to identify the influence of acting forces, for example, centrifugal forces. The effects of these process parameters were analyzed statistically using an analysis of variance. The yarn tension between the delivery rollers and the yarn guide was measured using a modified one-roller tensile yarn tension sensor. The yarn tension between the yarn guide and the SMB system was determined with an already existing optical approach at a higher angular spindle speed. As the highest yarn tension theoretically occurs between the SMB system and the cop, it was estimated in this region by measuring the coefficient of friction between the yarn and the yarn guide using the friction module of the constant tension tester equipment. The maximum balloon diameter was determined from the recorded balloon form between the yarn guide and the SMB system with respect to different angular spindle speeds. The results provide valuable information about the highest possible spinnable speed and enable a better understanding of the dynamic yarn path in the SMB spinning system. Keywords

Contribution à la modélisation de paliers magnétiques actifs auto-détecteurs / Contribution to the modeling of active magnetic bearings with a self-sensing approach

Chareyron, Baptiste 17 November 2015 (has links)
Active magnetic bearings with a self-sensing approach are electromechanical transducers. They realize two different functions at the same time: power function for moving the rotor, and sensor function for estimating the size of the air gap and the position of rotor. In this thesis, we developed an electromagnetic model for conception and optimization of these active magnetic bearing. In order to achieve this goal, different models were developed during this thesis:- A high frequency model of a laminated and polarized material builds with a reversible permeability measure and an homogenization model for high frequency;- A simulation model induced currents in a laminated rotor created by its own rotation. This one permits eddy current losses determination and the impact of rotation on the position estimation;- Finally, a high frequency impedance model for a laminated, saturated and polarized magnetic circuit. This model computes in 3 steps: nonlinear magnetostatic calculation, integration of high frequency model and linear magnetodynamic calculation. These different approaches were validated experimentally with an Epstein frame and with two different magnetic bearings. All these models were then exploited in a tool for optimal conception of active magnetic bearings with a self-sensing approach. Finally, a bi-objective multivariable optimization was realized to design an optimal active magnetic bearing to both estimate position and create force.
