Marketmakers : eles são úteis no Brasil? / Marketmakers: are they useful in Brazil?

Lengler, Gustavo Maltez January 2010 (has links)
This dissertation wants to analyze the importance of the marketmakers and describe the companies‟ goals when they decide to hire marketmakers in Brazilian stock Market Exchange (BOVESPA). After presenting the Brazilian legal environment and available data, the analysis focus on an event-study looking for changes in volatility using the daily amplitude as a proxy and the positive(negative) abnormal returns when hiring(rescinding) marketmakers. From January 2002 to January 2010, 98 enterprises were analyzed and after exclusions due to lack of data for event-study window estimation or coefficient non-significance , the analysis was concentrated on 57 assets. Two event-windows were created for this work (2 and 11 days) and results suggest volatility reduction when marketmaker services are being provided. However, there are no statistical evidence of abnormal returns due to the marketmaker, except for the 11-day-event-study when marketmakers stop providing the service, with a positive result of 4.79%. However, results tend to show with little significance an increase (decrease) of information asymmetry when marketmakers starts(stops) providing their services.

TRAUMA : Visuella illusioner inom spelmekanik

Laitila Ekelund, Marcus January 2009 (has links)

Active Reflection Absorption for a Three Dimensional Multidirectional Wave Generator

Cruz Castro, Oscar 2009 August 1900 (has links)
In order to implement an accurate system that allows for absorption of reflected waves impinging to a wave maker (Active Reflection Absorption), it was required to apply a method to estimate properly the direction of arrival of the waves that does it in the fastest way possible. Our wavemaker control system has been prepared to handle an algorithm provided by Bosch-Rexroth where the wave angle estimation is practically locked to a very narrow frequency band (spatial gain-mixer). The system was evaluated with physical tests in a 3D wave basin for different conditions of reflected waves arriving with an angle to the wavemaker front, and acceptable performance has been found for the 3D ARA mode. However, for certain conditions over-compensation or sub-compensation can develop resulting in a poor absorption. This is mainly related to not being able to determine accurately the direction from which the reflected waves travel towards the wavemaker. The present work employed concepts found in the areas of antenna array signal processing and signal propagation, which were applied to this problem. This approach coupled naturally with our wavemaker system since it was prepared with 48 gages that can be employed in an array antenna fashion. A program was codified from an algorithm found in literature to calculate the Direction of Arrival (DOA) of the reflected waves. The focus for the testing of this program was with regular waves. The tests were conducted to validate the program with different angles of incidence and show that for regular waves the program was able to detect accurately the DOA of these in as few as 5 snapshots, with a minimum of 7 gages used as the antenna input. With data obtained directly from the control system of our wavemaker using regular waves, the program was able to determine the DOA. The computational burden of the algorithm is not significant in the case of regular waves. A modification of the program is required to analyze the DOA of reflected irregular waves, which could increase the computational burden. Actual implementation of this program to our control system depends on cooperation with Bosch-Rexroth.

A Study of Process Computer Resource Integration in China Steel Group

Sun, Chia-jen 29 June 2008 (has links)
Thanks to the booming of China and eastern Europe demanding, the world steel annual production soaring from 0.75 billion tons in 1990 to 1.239 billion tons in 2006, the percentage of top 10 steel company is 28.43% of the world production and it is a history record. It looks like raw material industrial like steel makers are shinning. Nevertheless, due to merge of the steel industry and final product customer of local market were shifting to the China market, threaten are increasing. Therefore, to find out how China Steel gains more competition through her resource integration becomes main reason of this research. In Blast Furnace steel making, the co-relationship between upstream and downstream is highly cohesive, China Steel has started to set up her Process computer system since 1979. The main function of the Process computer is to receive production order from ERP system and download the receipt to the low level controller through its built in model; During production, the Process computer also track the material from semi-product to the final product, A Quality evaluation system in every Process computer system also helping the production supervisor to make sure the quality of the outlet. To leverage the thirty years Process computer know-how becomes main search of this essay. Through survey of Dragon steel¡BChung-Hung Info Steel and Inform-Champ corporation to study their current status of the system¡Borganization and requirement, list all the demanding and possible solution as an information base, then use RBV to analysis these demanding. This research will based on the process computer know-how center of the CSC Process control computer shop to establish a new process to contribute the following ¡§Rent¡¨ in CSC group: (1). To readjust the data flow of CSC Process control computer shop based on the competition acknowledge survey of all the team members in this shop. (2) To support Chung-Hung Steel for his revamping and new process control computer system. (3) To support Dragon steel to establish his own maintenance system and to handle the new project of the Dragon Steel to minimize the project organization manpower. (4) To establish a common platform of spare parts and an integrated purchasing system to minimize the stock of spare parts and to meet the economic scale on purchasing. (5) To establish a model research center in China steel as a CSC Group model ware. (6) To assist ICSC to set-up his total solution capability of process computer technology

Making gender: technologists and crafters in online makerspaces

Godfrey, Elizabeth 08 June 2015 (has links)
The Maker Movement is a rapidly moving development towards non-traditional education through hands-on creation of technological artifacts, indicating tremendous potential for attracting previously marginalized groups underrepresented in science and technology fields. The movement is compellingly situated as the intersection of an expansive array of interdisciplinary efforts and thus equipped to be leveraged by women and girls who are more likely to originate from artistic and creative backgrounds. Women who make are severely underrepresented in all documented embodiments of the maker movement, including maker media, events, and tangible collaborative spaces. This study explores the possibilities of removing barriers to entry into making for women by converging upon the narrow focus of online makerspaces, engaging with the denizens of the space, and scrutinizing the manner in which they participate in the broader maker community. The timeliness of this probe into women’s personal engagement with science and technology making is indicated by the convergence of discussion surrounding the underrepresentation of women in STEM and approaches to increasing accessibility through making as a natural point of entry.

A Comparison of the Dr. Robert Zingg Archaeological Collection to Early 20th Century Tarahumara Material Culture

Sutherland, Kayla 01 August 2014 (has links)
In this study, I examine the material culture of the Rio Fuerte Basket-Maker Phase (200 B.C. - 1000 A.D.) and Cave-Dweller Phase (1000 - 1600 A.D.) occupations in southern Chihuahua, Mexico, that is represented in the Dr. Robert Zingg Archaeological Collection. Zingg believed that the material culture showed a clear progression from the Basket-Maker Phase to the Cave-Dweller Phase, which he interpreted to indicate a relationship between these two phases, and that these phases were the precursors of the twentieth century Tarahumara. I test this hypothesis by comparing the artifacts in the Dr. Robert Zingg Archaeological Collection curated by the University Museum at Southern Illinois University Carbondale to the artifacts in the ethnographic Tarahumara Collection curated by the Milwaukee Public Museum. Following an evaluation of the archaeological and ethnographic material culture, I conclude that Zingg's hypothesis is only partially supported by the museum collections. Although the material culture of the later Cave-Dweller Phase is sufficiently similar to the material culture of the twentieth century Tarahumara to suggest a relationship between the two cultures, the earlier Rio Fuerte Basket-Maker Phase does not provide enough artifacts that show similarity with either the Cave-Dweller Phase or the twentieth century Tarahumara.
