Holgersson, Ann-sophie, Israelson, Maria January 2009 (has links)

Many organizational changes have been accomplished in elder care since the 1980's and many of those have been influenced by market mechanisms. The purpose of this study is to examine how the implementation of these market mechanisms has affected three important aspects in the work situation for personnel. These aspects are, demand, control and support. To attain the purpose of this study, five qualitative interviews with home care personnel have been carried out. The interview material has been analyzed and structured with the help of Karasek and Theorells demand-control-support model. The study shows that the demands on personnel has increased, the prospect of personnel to control their work situation has both decreased and increased in different regards, finally, that support has improved after the implementation of market mechanisms in the municipality where the study was done. This implies that the personnel's prerequisites for self development, teaching and motivation in some regards seem to have improved. Although, at the same time, the increased demands of cost efficiency adhered to time pressure seems to hinder personnel from using their skills and to make work related decisions. This also means that they in their work situation are at a greater risk of suffering illness.

WATER QUALITY TRADING FROM THE POINT SOURCE PERSPECTIVE: WILLINGNESS TO PAY FOR ABATEMENT CREDITS AND PREFERENCES FOR WATER QUALITY TRADING MARKET MECHANISM

McLaughlin, Andrew 01 January 2015 (has links)
As part of the EPA’s initiative to reduce the hypoxic zone in the Gulf of Mexico, a feasibility study for a potential water quality trading (WQT) program in the Kentucky River Watershed (KRW) was conducted. While theoretically, emission trading programs are among the most efficient means of reducing pollution, empirical evidence suggests low-trade volume as a primary concern for the long-term success of such programs. Some of the important reasons for the low volume of trade are due to lack of suitable market trading mechanism for point sources and lack of information on willingness to pay (WTP) for abatement credits. Our study aims to tackle these issues by gathering a profile of municipal sewage treatment plants as point source polluters in the KRW, while simultaneously analyzing their preferences for WQT market mechanisms and WTP using a survey based approach. The survey was conducted in 2012. Municipal sewage treatment plants’ ranked preferences are analyzed using an exploded logit model and WTP is analyzed using Ordinary Least Squares and Tobit models.

The Relationship of Board Structure, Market Mechanisms and Corporate Value - Taiwan Evidence

Unknown Date (has links)
The main purpose of this study is to examine the influences of governance mechanisms on corporate value. What’s more, this research measures governance mechanisms via integrated sources based on direct and indirect mechanism to learn further more about the effect can improve corporate monitoring mechanism, and then further enhance corporate performance. Based on the samples of Taiwan listed firms for the period from 2008 to 2012, this study employs panel regression model with Corporate value (Tobin’s Q) as the dependent variable against various combinations of internal governance mechanisms variables (Board size, CEO duality, Outside Director)and external market mechanisms variables( Information Disclosure and Transparency, Frequency of Analyst Forecasts, Institutional Investors’ Ownership). The conclusion of this study is the following three parts: (1) when the board have more diverse background, it can attract more external professionals and strengthen its monitoring mechanism to enhance company value. (2) The market can supervise the management team effectively and enhance the company's value by the frequency of analyst forecast (3) Outside directors and the frequency of analysts forecast are complementary, which can enhance the transparency of information, which prompted the company has more neutral and objective supervision team to help the board lead the management team to create long-term value for the company. Companies in Taiwan are mostly family control or centralized. However, it could be easily restricted by the personal prejudices and interests. Through this research about the experience of Taiwan market, hoping provide the advices on corporate boards and external authorities to reinforce the market mechanisms for oversight of corporate governance.

Hammarström, Fanny, Melkersson, Olivia January 2019 (has links)
Title: Governance within Swedish economics and business schools. - Market mechanisms, Bureaucratic mechanisms or Clan mechanisms? Background: In current research on organizational control in higher education institutions, clan- and culture mechanisms is advocated as the form of organizational control that should be used due to the fact that higher education institutions are characterized by high knowledge and cooperation. At the same time, empirical research shows that organizational control within higher education institutions is increasingly characterized by output measurements. Several of the studies that concern the subject are also based on an employee perspective, which creates a gap in the theory of how the issue is addressed from a leadership perspective. Purpose: The aim of the study is to, based on a leadership perspective, chart the organizational control that takes place in Swedish economics and business schools. In addition, the study should also explain whether different situational factors affect the control and how these affect. Method: The study takes its starting point in a qualitative study in which several interviews have been made to give the study an extensive and nuanced picture of the organizational control at Swedish economics and business schools. Conclusion: The results of the study have shown that there is a mixture of market mechanisms, bureaucratic mechanisms and clan mechanisms within Swedish economics and business schools. The study has also shown that the organizational control differs when it comes to education and research. In research, market mechanisms is dominant, while education has a greater variety of forms of mechanisms. It has also been found that several of the study's situation factors have an influence on the organizational control that is taking place.

Innovative paradigms and architecture for future distribution electricity networks supporting the energy transition / Paradigmes et architectures innovantes pour l'avenir des réseaux électriques de distribution soutenant la transition énergétique

Horta, José Luis 16 April 2018 (has links)
Future electricity distribution grids will host an important and growing share of variable renewable energy sources and local storage resources. Moreover, they will face new load structures due for example to the growth of the electric vehicle market. These trends raise the need for new distribution grid architecture and operation paradigms to keep the grid stable and to ensure quality of supply. In addition, these new paradigms will enable the provision of advanced new services. In this thesis we propose a novel architecture capable of fostering collaboration among wholesale market actors, distribution system operators and end customers, to leverage flexible distributed energy resources while respecting distribution system constrains. The architecture is designed for providing innovative residential demand side management services, with a special focus on services enabled by self-consumption at the household and neighborhood level. Following these general objectives, the thesis provides three main contributions. First, based on internet of things and blockchain technology, we propose the building blocks for future distribution grid energy management architectures. Then, focusing on the services enabled by such architectures, we propose hour-ahead markets for the local exchange of renewable energy among households together with dynamic phase allocation mechanism to improve the quality of electricity supply. Finally, we propose a real time control mechanism for the adjustment of market decisions to satisfy distribution system operator constraints.
